Not fair, Sam keeps adding his IRL +10 Charisma modifier to rolls
Sam + bard is closest thing to invincible
you kid, but this is mechanically what Eloquence bards get. They can't roll lower than a 10.
Scanlan’s back baby
What makes this all the more hilarious is that I think Travis is playing an Investigator Rogue. Which makes him as good at discerning lies as possible out of every other character class and subclass in D&D
Sam had it easier. With both having Expertise on the used skills (Deception vs Insight) that meant it came down to two things:
- Quay's ability modifier was +5 for Charisma vs +3 for Cerrit
- As an eloquence bard, Sam cannot roll lower than 10 for a minimum of 25
@@romxxii True but as a rogue, Pinch also can't roll less then a 10 (reliable talent) and thus has a minimum of 23.
So really it's only a difference of a +2 but who knows what that ring he's wearing does
@@alexzander7629 Cerrit's ring only gives an advantage when the opposed deception is 30 or greater. Sam outright said his lowest possible roll is 25, so he adds nothing else but charisma bonus of +5 and deception expertise of +10, for a range of 25-35
@@romxxii Ok, but that still leaves Cerrit with a range of 23 to 33 because he has expertise on Insight.
And if the ring gives him an advantage when the deception was 30+ he got the bonus, whatever it was.
@@alexzander7629 and then Sam "gift of gab"s himself out of the situation.
Or if he really cares, uses glibness where his minimum roll is a 15.
Travis' second roll to see if it would've been better followed by "You b***h!" cracked me up
There's no worse betrayal than your own dice.
@@vaalnailo5789 In a campaign I am currently playing, we have a rogue that despite his high level and all the expertise on skills and such... he often rolls below 4 and sometimes even natural 1s. He still doesn't have reliable talent. So, it is hilarious to see such an accomplished rogue, fail so often.
@@farrex0 Ask this low roller if he ever came into contact with Wil Wheaton. Sounds like the dice curse has spread.
A College of Eloquence Bard vs a Rogue Inquisitor, what a match up
I bet the Rogue didn't have expertise in Insight though. Like... It would be a good move, but perhaps Travis determined that he didn't want to spread himself too thin.
@@dude59974 that particular rogue origin is literally focused on insight and investigation
@@dude59974 I believe he does, the lowest Travis can roll on insight assuming he has expertise and reliable talent is 23 (10 from reliable talent +10 in expertise for level 14 and +3 from his wisdom). He probably just rolled below 10.
For Sam, his minimum would be a slightly higher 25 (10 from silver tongue +10 with expertise and +5 with charisma). We can infer he rolled a 15 here.
Also rogue has 4 expertises. Cerrit probably had them on perception, investigation, insight, then either survival or arcana.
Edit: Also from Travis' body language, you can see he is smiling before rolling (implying he still has a decent chance to beat it, with a 17 or higher to be precise). Without expertise, it would indeed be impossible to beat 30 since his theoretical maximum would just be 28.
23 is crazy hard to get.
My favorite part of this is that Travis was clearly waiting for Sam to make a definite statement. He started with this COULD have happened or she COULD have done this, but Travis waited for him to slip up and say "I don't know" to ask about his ring.
Matt Mercer is more than just the master of voices....he looks so different!
Truly, the man just disappears into the character!
And this persona loves almonds!
@@benwhite8157 and will do anything for a point.
So you know what to do gang...

Lou just going "stop!" at Sam's... celebration? at the end cracked me up.
Sam: tactile revelry
Lou: stop!
Marisha: First time?
Lou experiencing Sam is my favorite thing ever
he's feeling Aimee Carrero's old top
I think that top has magical powers, I know it wasn’t the one Aimee was wearing when she rolled her double nat 20 deception check at disadvantage for “Nancy” but it’s clear it has some sort of powers (now they just need to make sure Will Weston doesn’t touch it)
@@anufoalan Yea, Will Weston ruins everything... Will Wheaten too.
@@motodog242 And Wil Wheaton
@@jonathanwhitefield4640 this comment thread just keeps giving
It's all fun and games until you find out what sam's deception check was hiding later on and you just start crying again
Imagine a conversation between Loquacious and Scanlan haha
Conversation? I have a feeling mouths would too preoccupied and gods' name invoked
@@Jackie_Tikki_Tavioh god, the images 💀
Man, I remember playing my first warlock with stupidly high deception and intimidation. Some of the funniest moments were me dressing up as a wizard and yelling at cultists. Then rolling like a 25 on deception and convincing them to do the most counterproductive stuff I could come up with.
My favorite quote came right after we infiltrated a base, got caught, ran, and found the prison. Yelling at the guards, "What are you doing? Don't you hear the alarms? Get out there and FIND THEM!!!" then freed everyone...
ah man, back when they were all happy in this campaign
Why you gotta make me cry ;A;
Sam showing us that the media is actually the most deceitful thing in existence no matter that universe...
Dude this one-shot was a masterpiece.
"It's a 30."
Travis's brain, 'frikin Sam...'
eloquence bard vs. inquisitor rogue… immovable object vs. unstoppable force
My favorite of this Exandria Unlimited, is that Sam succseeds in every deception to keep things under wraps until he decides to reveal them at the right time
Okay but Sam looks *fabulous* in that leopard turtle neck.
You gotta imagine the kind of woman Quyen is to be able to handle a husband like Sam Riegel. lol
She is fairly amazing according to the rest of the cast, who obviously knows her as they are all friends. She also comes across as such in the interview she granted Brian in Between the Sheets.
But what about Liam though, what is his secret?
@@PalleRasmussen You just have to watch Quyens between the sheets episode. She is even more amazing
@@redcrowgrafik I literally wrote "She also comes across as such in the interview she granted Brian in Between the Sheets"
?
@@PalleRasmussen Uhh I don't think he was saying YOU need to watch. But in general all you need to watch. There was nothing wrong with it...
@@carpediem3991 you might be right. It could have been a comment supporting my statement.
hes got the +15stat eyebrow enchantments.
I absolutely LOVE watching new people at the table get to experience Sam's magic for the first time! lol
I can feel the rest of the CR cast looking at them like SEE!!!!
I trust you with my life mr Nigerian prince
I was expecting another "-rolls- '27' '2'" moment tbh lol
I wouldn't have specified deception because regardless of how good they are it guarantees everyone knows Sam is lying.
The players know that Sam's character, Loquatius, is lying, but their characters do not. Thats the big difference between a good or a bad player is they don't start immediately doubling down because they lost an insight check with "oh but that means hes lying".
They seriously need to do another calamity mini series.
With a Wisdom score of 10 and no proficiency, a first level character can mathematically roll a total of 30 for Insight. You just need a natural 20 and maximum rolls of Guidance and Bardic Inspiration. The odds are thin, sure, but they exist.
So someone remind me why Sam's got this leopard suit on again?
why not?
i'm guessing he conned it off of some stripper...
@@XgoldyTheGreat or Aymee Carraro.
Freaking Sam!
i thought he had a ring about lies
What's up with the wardrobe 😳
You must be new 😂
Sam loves to wear outlandish outfits and costumes. You should see the live shows.
What song is playing in this? I NEED IT FOR A VIDEO! :)
Ngl , I clicked cuz of the thumbnail
It Will bê Just a suposition, please do not take It serious. But, I was thinking about how a unexpected rage could bê. If a normal NPC rages, they could get for a while one or two powerfull Monkey Shaolin's moves. If a Bard rages, they would have a little bit of invisible magic, where the tables drop on the top of the boss. If a Tools Maker rages, their would have a Momentum spining and a pointing engine to hit some significant damage.
A nat 20 beats a dirty 30 RAW.
Rules as written, there's only one type of critical failure and one type of critical success. It only applies to death saving throws. Other than that, there's critical miss and critical hit. Those apply to attack rolls.
Music ruins it
So you copied Renzo Mayo and now you're begging for likes and subscriptions? Wow.
Wow, a clip where nothing funny at all happens.
Why did Sam vagazzle his eyebrows? Wtf is he wearing? Please tell me it's for the promo bit at beginning. Assuming that they still are doing that even on these exandria episodes.
He's playing a fae right now, he legally needs to be this fabulous
This Sam getup is rather conservative compared to the live shows
Episode 1 had them going to the biggest party of the city. So he dress for the occasion. As well as his fey bardlock character.
Iirc it's a tribute to an outfit Aimee Carrero wore in another EXU campaign
At the risk of being physically assaulted and receiving death threats from half of the community.... Exandria Unlimited just doesn't scratch the same itch as the normal crew. Feels a lot lower on the quality totem pole to me.
idk this calamity series blew me away. brenan lee muligan was phenomenal and the players fucking killed it.
I almost agree, but Calamity was the best piece of CR content in years.
Agree with Exandria Unlimited as a whole but Calamity so far is veeeeery good.
At least Calamity is better than the trainwreck of the last EXU series. THAT was hot garbage.
I see ExU as more of "for the lolz" games since they are shorts campaigns and they cant go too hard on lore and character goals but Calamity had a lot of gut wrenching and emotion pulling moments. Personally its my favourite short campaign so far
I still don’t get it, you guys like this stuff?
Yes 😎
Lmao wtf, you go to a channel that's called "Best of Critical Role" asking if we like it. Are you lost?
i actually hate it and purposely go to "best of CR" channels just to watch something i don't like, seems like we have this in common
