Super Resolution Microscopy (SRM) is a series of techniques for biological structure visualization. The first invention of SRM, 4Pi microscopy was in 1978 and followed by several recent techniques. Each SRM provides a different excitation light and image processing to get a better image resolution. SRM improves the resolution of the imaging by overcoming the diffraction limit below 200 nm which could not be performed by conventional microscopies. It can be used for 2D up to 4D imaging with fluorescence tagging.
SRM can be used together with high efficiency fluorescence dyes for staining which provide a better signal and minimize background during visualization.
