I used to love Ellen, but the stories about how she treated guests and her employees made me dislike her show and stop watching it. I don’t support toxic environments. I am hoping as time has passed that she has grown to do better.
That's a part og my reason for not supporting her but it'd also because I'd rather fund a brand who truly cares about is passionate about skincare and isn't just another celebrity brand. It's not trustworthy to me when they just slap a sticker with their name on a bottle.
@TP I highly doubt she tried anything to actually change herself, people like that say that they have “changed” just because the backlash affected their reputation. People like that don’t care about you, they care about making money.
As a former model, I will confirm there have a been a few shoots on where I was told they were being used for before and after a and I very clearly remember never going back for the actual afters. So generally I would say 99% of the time it’s the exact same photo that’s been edited
I’ve worked in the beauty industry awhile and I’ve always been fascinated by hair dye boxes. They’ll use the same model, change the shading a bit and just photoshop the hair color. It’s SO OBVIOUS & just feels shady af. Like why not try and hide it?!?
To me, ageing positively is taking care of yourself. Your mental health, your diet, your relationships and in this case, your skin. I think it’s just accepting every little wrinkle and every little line while focusing on the fact that you’re able to get them, when a lot of people haven’t gotten the chance. But I do think it’s also important to acknowledge it’s okay to have negative feelings about them, because of this kind of marketing. We have “age gracefully!” shoved in our faces at the same time as “wrinkles are ugly you’re old buy our products!”
I agree! And taking care of the skin is a good thing, but these (and many other!) ads that promise these results are wrong. It's just bilking the consumer, and the volume of all skin care ads give this false impression. Ordinary lotions, sunscreen, and don't forget to smile and eat your veggies!
As a very young person (20) whose routine consists of a lot of "anti-aging" ingredients such as retinols, hyaluronic acids and antioxidants, I still consider myself someone who is "ageing positive". Im in the camp of preventing ALL skin damage (especially UV) for health reasons as well as for aesthetic purposes. I want to prevent premature aging but when i start crinkling at the sides of my eyes and losing buccal fat I'm going to welcome it coming in at its time because that's just how bodies work. I will probably still use "anti-aging" ingredients but I refuse to be anti ageing . I look at my mother and see so much beauty in her smile lines and wisps of grey hair and forward to the privilege of looking as wise as I am when its my time. That's what ageing positive is to me but I'm not sure if this brand agrees with me on that one
I agree! As an over 50 woman with menopause, rosacea and melasma, I want to age as well as I can. However, in my opinion the beauty business seems to take advantage of our insecurity. The prices of certain products is ridiculous. Thank you for exposing the products and companies that are suspect.💖💖
IM SO OVER CELEBRITY SKIN CARE LINES!!! If you aren’t putting out something revolutionary, with kickass science and clinical trials blah blah.. JUST DON’T. we don’t need more money grabs. There’s enough skin care products in the world.
It's one thing to have a youtube channel about skin care but it's another thing to dig deep into these skin care lines and research all aspects of a brand. You do a wonderful thorough job and this is why you are my absolute favorite. You provide an invaluable service to consumers. Love it. Thank you for all your hard work.
A comment about the recycling topic, Companies should make it easier to remove stickers to ensure the item is recycled. The majority of the time I cannot take off the stickers 😔
Hey!! Can you just make a video on facial tools like facial rollers and GUA SHA and ice globes... Like how to use them ?? Is it ok to use them?? How often should we use them??which meterial should we use?? It would be really helpful if you make a video regarding the same 😊❤️❤️🥰🥰love uu
I used to watch her show when I was younger, but years later I found myself not really enjoying it anymore till I just stop watching it, even before the cancellation news. I'll say if you haven't seen the show before, save it, don't bother watching it. If I have to recommend a chat show though, I've been enjoying Graham Norton. As for aging positively or beautifully, mainly I think is taking care of yourself, physically and mentally. Learning to love all of yourself. Because we're growing and changing in every single minute, we can't stay the same forever.
As a 57 year old mature woman I am quite upset that the industry thinks that we are all financially successful and can spend fortunes on skin care. Sometimes I can, but I definitely don't want to. Thanks, you’re great!
I think aging positively is accepting the fact you are growing older, taking care of your older skin and body, and helping to form the values of youth around you. There is nothing more beautiful than a kind elderly person dishing out wisdom to the youth x
I heard about this skin care line when the Ellen fallout was still unraveling. and I really thought they’d rebrand it as that’s so easy to do these days. Like the world needed another skin care line.
"Like the world needed another skin care line." "Today the global beauty industry is a $532 billion business. The U.S. currently is the world’s largest beauty market, with about 20% share, followed by China (13%) and Japan (8%). While projections for growth vary, most agree it will continue to advance at a 5%-to-7% compound-annual-growth-rate to reach or exceed $800 billion by 2025." Forbes
U should do a video following up on celebrities skincare brands and see how they've changes like Kylie Jenner, Rihanna, Pharrell, Harry Styles, JLo and others
To age positively to me is taking care of your skin as you should (daily skin care, sunscreen, limiting your time is harsh sun light or other toxic environments) and embracing the fact that you will age, and along with that, the wrinkles and sagging that happen naturally because our bodies slow down as we age. I don’t think we need to be afraid of our aging bodies, we should embrace it, just like everyone before us.

Honestly I was a bit confused with the whole scandal, I had seen a few episodes and had deduced that her whole thing is being mean to celebrities while smiling like a psycho for entertainment. Since that's not my thing I never watched it again. Now people were acting confused that she was actually mean as if that wasn't the very thing they enjoyed so much 🥴

Changes happen naturally with age, some of which have more of a cosmetic effect versus changes that actually affect our health such as the organs that keep us healthy and out of the hospital, like our heart and kidneys and yes, the skin. So for me I'd say that "aging positively" means taking care of your organs and maintaining your function as you grow older. I'm not trying to minimize how people feel about body image, rather that its unfortunate that we worry more about the cosmetic aging changes earlier. I'm not an exception to this btw.
Pure cash grab! I actually laughed out loud when you spoke of Victoria Jackson being the queen of the no makeup look. I used to use a cream foundation created by her back in the 90s, and the reason I was using it is because it had 'Dermablend'-like coverage to hide all the breakouts on my face! It was my armor that prevented me from having to show how bad my skin was...stupid thing was I didn't have a good routine to get it off and do a proper cleansing (this was the 90s, remember, so things like Noxema and Sezbreeze were in regular use!) I actually searched for her products a few months ago before becoming a skintellectual, and found she had "left the business to pursue other opportunities"...guess we know what those are now!
I'm gonna hop in on the Vegan thing, I think it's great to consume less animal products, even if you're not vegan it's definitely a healthier choice. HOWEVER, in my opinion there's a big difference on HOW you source animal products. My friends keep sheep, every year when they have to shave the wool (you have to! Yes.) They extract and purify the lanolin to make lotions, they give the wool to my mother who spins it and turns it into socks, baby blankets, sweaters etc. Those sheep have a better barn than my house. I have a friend who keeps bees, he keeps their hives free of pests and safe from predators and adding to the healthy bee population (IMPORTANT!) when he harvests the honey he's sure to leave more than enough to keep them fed over winter. (Bees are wild- you don't force them to do anything. They make honey because that's what they do, if a wild hive makes too much honey they can't live they leave their hive and all the honey. Honey needs to be harvested regularly or the bees will overproduce and either leave or suffocate.) I think when you're talking about not using animal products it gets to be a very moral thing, but a lot of people put a lot of love and care into the husbandry of their animals, and I think it's more important to source your animal products from an ethical place than to cut them out entirely. Just a thought- ethical wool sweaters are organic and compostable and eco friendly- your acrylic sweaters are sending micro plastic hairs into the water every time you wash them and will never break down because they're plastic.
You're trying to convince a vegan that it's okay to exploit animals and their byproducts; however, vegans think that it is unethical and immoral. Animals are not meant for us to consume, and we are not entitled to their byproducts no matter how much we love the animals or think that we take good care of them. Also, the vast majority of animal products available on the commercial market come from factory farming situations that violent, exploitative, and cruel, so telling people that the key to the problem is to just "ethically source" their animals is misleading. And yes, animal welfare/rights is a moral thing because animals are sentient beings with dignity who deserve to have autonomy and not be consumed or exploited by humans. Your entire comment advocates for the exploitation of animals for human purposes, which is what Cassandra addresses in her video. Please stop romanticizing animal commodification because you're uncomfortable with being called out.
@@ladycaticorn2950 ok but the commenter literally states that bees are not exploited. Existing and co-operating with animals is not "exploiting" them. Bees are NOT bred farm animals, they are not kept. Out of literally all possible animals, including our pets such as Cassandra's chickens, bees are some of the very few that /choose/ to work with us. If they are unhappy with the conditions of the hive, they leave. If the hive gets overfilled with honey, they leave. So beekeepers offer safety as well as cleaning the hive to convince them to stay. Bees have co-existed in symbiosis with humans for millenia, just as they have with other animals in the wild, such as bears. Relying on the natural world around us and what it gives us is not exploitation. If you think that eating honey or using it is exploiting bees, then you should probably stop eating most fruits and vegetables, because they are pollinated by.... bees. And MANY farmers keep bees specifically to help pollinate their crops. So if using their honey is exploitation, then taking and eating the literal fruits if their labor is definitely exploitation too, right?
I like how when you do a reaction video, you always say things like "i don't know anything about this person" or "I haven't watched anything they are famous for". It makes me chuckle every time!
Hey, would you consider reviewing Indian skincare brands? The skincare game in India is growing exponentially. Some of my favourite brands are Plum, Re’quil, Juicy Chemistry, Dot n Key, Forest Essentials and Dr Sheth’s. Please try these out and let us know. Looking forward to knowing your thoughts!
It’s green washing, the recycling system only works for plastic left over after we STOP making more. Otherwise it gotten overgrown and unruly and stuff ends up in the ocean now because of it. You can’t block the end of a hose before actually turning it off. It’ll just build up and explode.
I do not support celebrity brands, not sports celebs, not fashion models, not Hollywood, not music brands, for skin care, perfume, or fashion. I dislike the way people idolize and identify as fans. It seems like they have no personal identity, so they co-opt someone else’s. They dress like them, talk like them, buy their crap, literally and figuratively, wait for and line up to buy their latest and greatest merchandise, and they fuel their ego with such identity theft, very bizarre behaviour.
I am a bit sceptical I must admit. I found it funny that she called "kind science" !Would you be able to do Jennifer Lopez skincare line and Alicia keys?
Just turning 56 and really just starting skincare about a year ago, I believe in aging kindly. Having laid out in the sun sooo much as a kid, I suffer from melisma as well as acne scars. Thanks to great influencers like you who are honest and teach us how to understand our skin and products. This line sounds way sketch to me. While I am not vegan or even vegetarian, I don’t believe in hurting animals (insects) for looks or to wear. Believing in cruelty free means I don’t buy any ingredients that are not cruelty free. If Ellen is vegan then why does she have non vegan products? And the photoshopped before and after was way too obvious. I don’t mind celebs putting their names on products, I just think they should be transparent about their involvement. I LOVE Jen Anniston’s hair line!! I also follow my morals in buying products from companies and celebrities. I do not support racism or bullying.
I'm so happy to find this review. I'm not in a financial situation to buy any cosmetic products, but was very close to charging! I find it very suspicious that these products claim they'll get rid of wrinkles etc. I guess I'll just keep doing what I've been doing for 65 years...nothing special for sure. Don't wear makeuo, maybe 1x a year! Put some lotion on once in awhile. That's about it.
I cannot say enough how much I love that you have rescue chickens and use their unfortunately high egg production to help other, less lucky chickens. Chickens are incredible beings and the way humans treat them is a travesty.
I would like to see you talking about crosspolymers, dimethicone , micro plastic ..because those ingredients are in 95% of common cremes and i think they shouldnt go onto your skin at all
Unfortunately you lost me with this one and your views on honey. Beekeepers provide bees with a home, keep their hives safe from predators, parasites, and disease, and the honey they take is excess honey. Bees make WAY way more than the hive can use, and the excess (in the wild) gets dirty and attracts all of the dangers i listed above. Honey does not contain crushed bees. Beekeepers love and care for their bees as much as you love and care for your chickens. A beekeeper’s bees are no more enslaved than your chickens. Please do more research before saying such incorrect things about the art of beekeeping.
It's unethical to take byproducts from animals. It's not ours to consume, commodify, or use--that's the point. Also, commercial beekeeping does involve exploitative practices towards bees, which warrants further ethical concerns.
@@ladycaticorn2950 how do you exploit bees? Literally how? If bees are unhappy, they move. The queen will go somewhere else and the hive will follow. How is it unethical to give these creatures a home, safety, food, nurturing, freedom from disease and pests…and then take something they’re not using anyway, that if left intact will attract predators, dirt, parasites, and other problems for the hive? And none of that was the point she was making in the video anyway (since she says she takes her chickens’ eggs; wouldn’t that fall under these same bizarre ethics?), but instead she was spreading misinformation about “bee grinders” or whatever that isn’t even true. Here’s the thing: you’re anthropomorphizing bees in a very “Western” way, eg capitalist way, as in “we made the honey so it’s OURS and by taking it you’re STEALING IT.” That isn’t. Bees don’t. They don’t have a concept of ownership. And, like I said, if they didn’t like it they would leave. If a hive wants to leave you can’t keep them-unless you locked them in a room or something, and then they would die in protest. No joke. Please learn more about actual beekeeping from actual beekeepers and actual entomologists before you just believe the vegan/peta propaganda. I guarantee you 99% of what vegans will tell you about bees and beekeeping is completely wrong.
Thank you. I was really confused about the remark about veganism and honey. It wasn't making much sense to me from the (very limited) knowledge I have of bees, so I came to the comments and you've answered my questions.
So,I’m not sure how long you’ve been vegan but improved skin is typically the first thing people begin to notice after converting. I’ve been vegetarian for many many years but when full vegan about 10 years ago….and my skin looks 10 years younger than all of my peers. I love these videos and converted from overpriced soaps, lotions , and potions to many of your recommendation! Happy Holidays.
I really respect veganism as an ethical choice, but I despise the “vegan=healthy=good skin” bs, or that going vegan will fix any of your health issues. It’s getting to “essential oils will cure cancer” levels of misinformation and toxicity. Vegan does not mean being healthy, being healthy does not mean good skin, and being vegan does not mean good skin. Yes, for some people, milk for example triggers breakouts. Yes, some people chug gallons of milk and have perfect skin. You can be a vegan and eat nothing but frozen vegan pizzas and oreos all day. You can be an omnivore and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. You can be vegan and have bad skin. You can be an omnivore and have good skin. And so on, and so on.
Why would people waste their money on a skin brand that is supposed to be kind when we know she is the worst. I would never givr my money to a proven bully like her.
It is good to see a woman who's not in her teens, 20s or 30s be involved in the production and who's image i's used in the advertising... But that's about all that interests me.
This is my first time commenting on one of your videos, and this is not meant to be cruel. But I do not understand what you are referring to when stating using bee-honey is cruel, and that the bees have been enslaved. I do however understand that it is a part of your lifestyle as a vegan not to eat honey and I respect that. But a proper beekeeper do not enslave their bees, the bees are free to do what they want, live where they want, eat what they want, and the honey harvested out of a thousand grams is small, it is but a fraction, and preferably honey is harvested during the spring. Most times, bees are less at risk living with a beekeeper than staying in a tree because the seasons are not always reliable, fires happen, climate change, trees get old, it rains to much, we use chemicals in the area where they live or we get them removed because some people are scared or allergic etc. Bees are so important for our eco-system, we will die without them, and the fact that there are people interested enough to take the responsibility in trying to save the bees, and they get some honey in return is probably more fair than them going extinct and we not seeing the importance of them. Here in Norway where I live, the production of honey is so that we can maintain the population of bees, garden flowers sold are bee- and insect flowers so that they have a chance of regaining their habitats or creating new ones. We also have laws created here to prevent illnesses in bees, it is regulated how they are to be moved, a beekeeper has to register and be certified and the authorities can come visit when they so wish, and the keeper can be given a fine or up to one year in prison or both if the laws have been violated. This got a lot longer than I wanted, I am very sorry for that, it is a topic very important to me. I am aware that not all beekeepers are kind to the bees around the world, but we as consumers should demand that kindness if honey is used in products and food. But refusing to eat or use honey will not fix the problem of the climate changing and the bees going extinct because of that change, and we (humans) therefore being the cause of the extinction of bees.
I used to love Ellen show. Didn't watch it regularly but liked to have some laughs off the TH-cam from time to time. Had no idea that she'll be cancelled or about the working conditions but did hear about the Kind Science from her show. She used to promote her own apps so her skin care line wasn't surprising altogether. On the other hand, with what I've seen so far, I haven't heard her talking about aging gracefully or whatever else about beauty or skin. Not really a scandal or conspiracy persay, seems obvious, Ellen met Victoria and they came together with Victoria’s expertise and Ellen’s pre-cancelled persona to make a brand together. 💡
Hey Cassandra, having watched many of your videos, especially the ones where you are unpacking a celebrity skincare line, when you address the cleanser you often mention that the ingredients are good, but basic. Given that cleansers are washed off and don’t spend a lot of time on your face to really do something what ingredients should we look for that would be really incredible and stand out and worth our mo-nay? 🙂 As always thank you for these incredible videos!

I'm a teenager with oily and acne prone skin and I would really love to learn infos from you! Btw, I love and appreciate your videos. You gave me so much infos about skincare, and i thank you for that! Love you!
Honey isn’t necessarily bad, there are ethical ways to harvest it. I’m also OK with eating eggs as long as they’re your own chicken. I believe in being vegan mostly for reducing suffering, not for the sake of just not eating any animal products.
I don't fully understand how the honey industry is that bad. For sure we steal honey which is the work of the bees, but then again, who pollinates the plants that we consume? Bees. Also it's a rare occasion where I'm glad honey is commodified because they industry has thus an interest in keeping bee populations healthy and alive.
Thank you for this content. I know it takes a lot of dedicated hours to suss all this out. I appreciate that you take a critical approach to your analysis providing many questions to consider. I've grown impatient with the "celebrities know best " consumerism culture as the gold standard.
Kangaroo flower is the Kangaroo Paw flower that is indigenous to the Australian bush. The flowers look just like little Kangaroo paws and are super cute. I imagine the reference to paws would not have looked good hence the term "kangaroo flower." Clarins seems to also make reference to this flower. I have them growing in my garden:)
I have stopped watching Ellen because of all the workplace toxicity expose. But one thing that I don’t take away from her is that she was the first openly gay woman who made her own talk show. We have “age gracefully!” shoved in our faces at the same time as “wrinkles are ugly you’re old buy our products!”
That's beautiful 💕
I agree so much with this
Amen!
YES!! You have no idea how many people I know want to spend a ton of money on expensive skincare but eat like 💩 and complain the products are at fault
I'm 22 and I totally disagree with being against "anti-aging." Also, wrinkles can be caused from many factors, not necessarily aging.
I personally don't look forward to living enough to get wrinkles so I guess that's one less thing to worry about?

I agree! As an over 50 woman with menopause, rosacea and melasma, I want to age as well as I can. However, in my opinion the beauty business seems to take advantage of our insecurity. The prices of certain products is ridiculous. Thank you for exposing the products and companies that are suspect.💖💖

You look amazing.
It is a waste of money anyway. A good routine doesn't cost much at all.
@@komfykoala6083 Thanks but the photo is helping too much, I need to change it for a more current one 🥰
It’s called Kind?! Cause she’s cruel😭
I think aging positively is accepting the fact you are growing older, taking care of your older skin and body, and helping to form the values of youth around you. There is nothing more beautiful than a kind elderly person dishing out wisdom to the youth x
Wasn't their tagline "Be proud of your age, not your wrinkles"? Doesn't sound too kind to me.
The irony of the name Kind where Ellen was shown to be anything but makes me laugh.
Ellen is learning from Hyram. Naming brands based on characteristics that they dont have. "Selfless" and "Kind". Vain much
Hyram is really kind though.

Honestly I was a bit confused with the whole scandal, I had seen a few episodes and had deduced that her whole thing is being mean to celebrities while smiling like a psycho for entertainment.
It was my armor that prevented me from having to show how bad my skin was...stupid thing was I didn't have a good routine to get it off and do a proper cleansing (this was the 90s, remember, so things like Noxema and Sezbreeze were in regular use!)

I'm gonna hop in on the Vegan thing,
I think it's great to consume less animal products, even if you're not vegan it's definitely a healthier choice. Honey needs to be harvested regularly or the bees will overproduce and either leave or suffocate.)
I think when you're talking about not using animal products it gets to be a very moral thing, but a lot of people put a lot of love and care into the husbandry of their animals, and I think it's more important to source your animal products from an ethical place than to cut them out entirely.
This is not a line I would consider anyway, but I really appreciate you digging into the brand and reporting back the dirty details!

The word is shallow. It is easier to follow others thoughts and opinions than form any of your own.

Victoria Jackson Make-up is also sold as part of an MLM!! My mom bought some for me when i was younger (Probably around 15 years ago!)
And so on, and so on.
i’m so sick of new skincare lines. i don’t care anymore wtf they’re about, we DONT NEED ANY MORE! it’s just pure capitalism.
"Age Positivity" is like "Body Positivity". They're latching onto trending concepts and buzzwords while trying to sell you the exact opposite.
Simply put!!
So it's like Oil of Olay with Neutrogena packaging with La Mer promises?

I don't fully understand how the honey industry is that bad. For sure we steal honey which is the work of the bees, but then again, who pollinates the plants that we consume? Bees.
