That tall bald Dutch guy was unique, his name was Erland Van Lidth de Jeude, also was wrestler and Singer, by the way, he passed away thirty years ago.
The head of the Baldies, "Terror" was an opera singer and MIT grad that started his own computer company. He was an alternate on an OLympic wrestling team (heavyweight, 1976), too. Check out the Wikipedia mini-bio:Mini Biography Born in the Netherlands, he came to the United States as a child in the late 1950s. Erland grew up in Orange, New Jersey; Ridgefield, Connecticut; and Mont Vernon, New Hampshire. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, ,,,
Now those were real street gangs with swagger and style, not like the idiotic looking clowns of today who claim to be gangsters. Even if they were thugs, those gangs back at least had camaraderie and code.
They're all losers, tbh. If you have the kind of mentality most gang-members have of 'needing to belong', you have a serious problem. But at least back then they kept their violence and trouble-making between themselves instead of driving down streets shooting people who have nothing to do with their bullshit.
Indeed they are all losers, but the so called gang bangers today are annoying scrubs who wear clownish attire and act like they don't have any sense whatsoever. I'm not in any way idealizing the street gangs of the past, but in my opinion they were the real deal.
Gushing GuG and most of them can't fight either. It's all about guns. I'd imagine most of them don't even know what a blade looks like now, let alone using their fists! The just want Glock 9's or whatever those are called...it's about killing someone stone dead now instead of just being the self-styled toughest kid in the neighborhood. The world has changed a lot
F*** Yeahhh The Wanderers & The Warriors two great old school classics filmed the same year 1979 2 Yrs before I was born My Mom saw both of the movies opening day when she was in College when 🎥 😎 🇺🇸👍🏽!!!!!!!!
One of the most underrated films ever, this is a classic, gets unfairly compared to the warriors which was itself a great film but this in my opinion is the better film overall, a true coming of age drama which never gets the credit it deserves, yet everyone I know who's seen this gem loves it
@@MrGurke-we9oe underrated is a wrong word to use, underseen would be more apt, as I say everyone I know who's seen this has nothing but high praise for the film, it's just not seen by nearly enough people, especially this side of the pond
I don’t think the film was marketed extensively in 1979. It played for a few weeks in movie theaters and was forgotten until 1980 or 81 when HBO showed it and it developed a following
Wikipedia stated the film sold well in Theaters upon release. But I do remember as a kid in middle school around late 1979-early1980ish it got very popular on HBO
Excellent film. I actually preferred the Wanders to the Warriors which was a great film in its own right but I think the soundtrack to the Wanderers tipped the balance for me. And yes the Ducky Boys were a scary firm even though historical reseach discovered they were a bunch of kids who hung around the duck pond near The Bronx Botanical Gardens 210th St.
Steve Mcniel Although there are a few different opinions the truth seems to be because they hung around the 'duck ponds' up in the North Bronx. if you follow link in my previous post a couple of the original 'Ducky Boys' and girls give us their reason. Like most films the reality is a long way from the truth lol
The Warriors ruined this film, commercially as it came out 5 months later, fighting in the movie theatre stopped the screening of this...I think it's better...by far
Great film greatsoundtrack :) one of those cool style films I be watching this on an l.a. channel back in the early 80$ as a kid fell in love just great work and music wanderers forever ! ;)
They used to play it on Encore 20 years ago all the time, but it was censored. They didn't bleap out the cuss words, just muted them when cuss words were spoken.
Tara was an MIT grad. Brilliant. Had a number of other roles. Died at an early age of natural causes. I can’t find the album soundtrack for sale or the DVD. Swallowed up. One of the best movies ever.
THE MEMBERS OF THE GANG WERE NOT SKINHEADS, THEY WERE THE FORDHAM BALDIES, AN ITALIAN AMERICAN GANG, A GANG FROM THE EARLY SIXTIES, THEY DID LOOK LIKE SKINHEADS BUT THEY WERE NOT, BEST WISHES FROM ITALY
The Warriors ruined this film, commercially as it came out 5 months later, fighting in the movie theatre stopped the screening of this...I think it's better...by far
RIP- Big Erland van Lidth (Terror)...He wasn't just some big dumbass; Erland was an Olympic caliber wrestler and went to MIT for computer programming. Also was a classically trained Opera singer!!! Died 30 years ago in Sept 1987
After the youth club disco on Fridays, back to "Maisie's" for tea, toast and videos - The Wanderers, American Graffiti, The Warriors, First Blood and Predator - gold.
I saw this with John Bal,Paul Bal,Gerard and Big Tom Murray at the RKO on 181st n bway in Washington heights nyc 15 years old in 1979,those old sticky floors,Johnny C
"DON'T FUCK WITH THE BALDIES" Watching this movie (on vhs) as a kid for the first time i was glued to the tv! I don't know how many times iv'e watched since, maybe it's the Music, the fight scene, the open racism; I prefer the Wanderers over the Warriors anyday.. I love the soundtrack to the movie... It's just a Cool movie..
The Fordham Baldies were a very real gang in NYC in the 50s and 60s. And my motther dated one of them. They went on to incorporate with Murder Incorporated. ( that's when mom walked away). So needless to say, they were a very rough and violent gang. But they kept the Fordham neighborhood free of crime and violence. God Bless Fordham Baldies....
Absolute amazing movie one of my favourites of all time! I’m only 26 but remember watching it as a kid my dad had this on VHS! Memories!

Both Movies are amazing. Don't care what anyone says 😁
Watched this again recently and it's weird. It is WAY better than I remembered
i love how Terror consumes the slice of pizza and then insists the smaller guy eats the crust. He wants to share.

That tall bald Dutch guy was unique, his name was Erland Van Lidth de Jeude, also was wrestler and Singer, by the way, he passed away thirty years ago.
He was also the opera singing light bulb dude in The Running Man too.
phillyphilhouse79 he was also grossburger in stir crazy
I thought it was King Kong Bundy when he was young.
@@victormalyar9200 He was bigger than King Kong Bundy.
@@RamsLakersDodgers Bundy was 110lbs heavier but Erland was 2 inches taller.
Such a classic! Will always miss the good old cruisin, rockin, rollin, greasy and golden days of the late 50s early 60s!!!!
this movie is brilliant. 10/10

2016BMWi8 Yeh man! Loved the Wongs! They kicked ass in that fight against the Ducky boys!
Yes that's one film i can watch again and again it's absolutely brilliant
One of my all time favourite films, had everything and a great sound track.
Terror would've made a perfect Kingpin
He was in the Running Man singing opera.
We need men like them today
Or bowling ball
Plus Terror was a p doe
Geiler Film,geile Musik.
Ich liebe diesen Film seit jahrzehnten🎉
It was the damn Ducky Boys that scared the shit outta me as a kid!!
me too...very eerie.
They scared me and my dumass brother like hell, them was some rough fuckers
One of my favourite films, absolutely brilliant portrayal of youth culture from that era and based on real life gangs from that time.
How about that scene in the classroom, with all the epithets, haha.
1979 two grt films the wanderers and the warriors --- they don't make um like they use too
mark pagden I like The Wanderers just a little bit more than the Warriors. Only because The Wanderers had a better soundtrack. Both great films though
True
As a Brit, I would also have to add "Scum" and "Quadraphenia" to that year too ;) They sure don't make them like they used to.
This is better than the warriors.

Watched this several times over the past few years - one of my favourites
I was 13 when i watched this movie in 79..Still love it to this day
same
There have been better gang fight films made, there have been better music films made, but surely this is the best mix of both?
No that's Quadrophenia, but this is one of the best openings along with Pulp Fiction in a close 2nd
Timeless classic!
Best movie ever
Nope that the Warriers
Erland Van Lithe de Jeude. He was an amazing singer, as well as having a brilliant mind. :-)
One of my favourite films, I absolutely love it 😀 ✌️🤟✌️
I love it that the actor who played "The Terror" was actually an MIT graduate computer genius in real life.
Der beste Rockerfilm, aller Zeiten ! 👍👍👍
classic when i watched this in late 70s i was fit six pack and foot free now im bold fat ive turned into a wanderer
