Sustainable Impact in India: Celebrating the cotton farmers of Anandhi Texstyles Pvt. Ltd

- Cotton is the most extensively utilized textile globally. In India, cotton has served as a vital cash crop for centuries by providing a source of livelihood for around 15 million farmers across 10 states. In the Tamil Nadu state of India, Fairtrade NAPP has collaborated with a contract production organization called Anandhi Texstyles Pvt. Ltd which is the promoter body of the Anandhi Farmers Association. Their joint efforts are aimed at creating a sustainable means of support for cotton farmers and workers. The association was established with 917 farmers to produce fairtrade cotton. Decisions regarding the allocation of these premium funds are made through annual general meetings that involve all 917 farmers. Besides ensuring a minimum price for cotton, the premium funds received are utilized towards essential community development programs in the surrounding areas. Today, the organization has directed their premium funds to the development of various initiatives such as smart classrooms at the government school, and the installation of 8 R.O. water plants in 6 primary government schools among others. Today, the premium funds received has encouraged the farmers to switch to organic farming.
Fairtrade is actively working towards a more equitable future for these farmers and their communities. Their grassroots approach to supporting farmers and workers has resulted in substantial progress. We are proud to be affiliated with this organization to make a fairer and sustainable world for all.
