  • The 100 meters is the premier event of track and field, the main attraction of the sport. This event, previously run as 100 yards created stars for over a century. Without being a student of the game, you must have heard the names, Jesse Owen, Jim Hines............................................................................

Many of the best sprinters are giving their best efforts in the 200. In past generations, guys like Noah Lyles, Letsile Tebogo, Erriyon Knighton, and Kenny Bednarek would have probably been pushed by coaches to focus on either the 100 or the 400 while occasionally running 200s since people viewed the event as more of a side chick than something an athlete should specialize in. In one of Rae's shows (maybe the one with Wallace Spearmon?), he mentioned how people would only do the 200 at nationals if they didn't run well in the 100, something that is no longer the case.

its pretty easily explained by the sport having consistently progressing in performance over time up until Usain Bolt taking it to new levels and creating the highest high of the sport ever. Since his retirement competition has not been even close to his level in the 100m. This is just the comedown from Bolt era, and will steadily climb from here.

What are you talking about. The fact that we see such a strong field of elite athletes is brilliant. It shows that performance not just on it's peak but more on wideness.
It's not just about the fastest times. It's about how many fast times do occur. And this is what clearly changes. Nowadays much more athletes ran super fast. (Sub 10 sub 20)
    Especially the 200 is cooking!

200 is definitely cooking, the men's 100m definitely not interesting as before....that is Just my opinion, as well as others, over the last two seasons.
