  • Rock Racing is certainly a wild and unique segment in RC. You drive over all sorts of terrain, clinching the radio as you wheel your rig through brutal rock piles and loose dirt. The challenge is intense and your vehicle needs to be up to the task. We don’t get to do much rock racing near the RC Driver offices, but this style of RC rig really excites us. So we had to try our hand and the Redcat Racing Camo X4 Rock Racing Buggy. This 4x4 buggy has independent front suspension, a solid rear axle, stout driveline, a cool look and most importantly a power system that will deliver plenty of action. Thinking about trying your hand at a rock racer. Our detailed review goes over all the features of the Camo X4 and of course you’ll see plenty of action footage too. Check out the exciting world of rock racing and see if the Redcat Camo X4 is the right RC buggy for you!

    How does this stack against the losi rock rey? & If you had a baja rey, would you say the redcat would be a good but different platform, but pretty bulletproof like the rock/baja reys are? Thx, always great videos.

    I like the look of this rig & the Camo TT (same platform). There was another youtube channel that sold these claimed that for some customers, the locked diffs were a problem if say people were jumping them and/or running on streets. This is designed to be a loose surface thing. I know the newest Losi Baja Rey went to an unlocked diff in the rear probably for durability.
    For that reason, if I were to pick up this rig, because I favor durability overall, I'd probably pick up the Redcat Unlocked Diff and install that replacing the locked rear diff. It's Redcat part 02024. Or you could just get the part HSP 02024 a pinch cheaper. It's the same part.
    Hopes this helps anybody considering this.

    • @rcdriver
      @rcdriver  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the first production run of the Camo's had the diff issue. The Camo in this review is from the new production run with revised parts.

    • @bigdaddyd82vapes92
      @bigdaddyd82vapes92 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The diff issues are most likely why the cammo and the TT version where out of stock for a while. Redcat really seems to be improving their image! You might not have any issues with your diffs. But, if you want to you can probably just get a rebuild kit for the front diff and remove the locker from the rear diff then install the gears and orings ect and be good to go with an open rear diff.

    @bobzilla9p0 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another great job on reviewing! I am very interested in the Camo x4 as an Ultra 4 racer and extreme trail crawling (like a 2.2 twin hammers I would use on a 2 mile mountain loop I hike). I have the Force RC Hammer Jaw (very slow crawler now with aluminum Wraith axle assemblies) which has the same rear HSP axle housing, but plastic lockers (same as in Gen7 sport) that use the flattened axle ends instead of dog bone ends. I know the Force RC Northwood uses compatible axles housings, so I would probably switch out to those rear axles and a metal locker (HSP 180009) because the dog bone rear setup seems to be breaking for others I have talked to (when jumping)(Redcat also makes a compatible open diff #02024). After seeing the abuse you put it through I a pretty sure I am going to pick one up.

    You should see how they locked the rear. Not built well at all. Only use 2s. And dont bash hard. Got it when it first came out then it disappeared for a while. Maybe they made some changes. I'm not a redcat hater just letting you know my experience with this rig.

      @@Jones8070 considering the sandstorm is 145 bucks on ebay i wouldn't expect much either.🤷‍♂️ Pretty much most their new stuff from redcat racing/team redcat isnt half bad. Have a tr-mt10e from them that ive had well over 2 years. Tuff little truck and mines far from stock and its taken a steady beating with minimal breakages over that time. This camo thing does look a little cheesy i do agree. Especially like their be6s and some of their more top of the line models are pretty beastly. hey mom, if someone( your son) finds or takes a liking to a hobby, especially like rc, a hobby that keeps growing, you learn from it , it keeps you busy and OUT OF TROUBLE!!! I can think of far worst things kids now a days can do , you know, like drugs and shit like that. RC is not a waste of time , however it can be expensive at times, but on the other hand can also teach kids to be responsible and maybe find a job ( or summer job depending on age ) to support this hobby. I am a 45yr old man with many rc's and am very passionate about this hobby, when the work and chores are done, I can't think of a better way to play:) also great for family fun, both my daughter's and wife rc with me quit often.

Personally first time i see a buggy with metal pinion and spur gears. All the others come second for me, because when you use 3s lipo the plastic spur gear start to loose slightly and finally destroy the teeths especially when you don't have a second for replace for example in the field when you drive.
