    Yo, your intro this time!
    1) My fiancee overheard and said "I do not trust any person who makes that comment on his videos"
    2) I never though of it that way either (because I'm a normal human being), but when you mentioned it I was like "I don't really like most split-toe derbies because I think they can look clunky, but looking at it in that, VERY SPECIFIC WAY (as a part of the female anatomy), I want ALL the split toe derbies - I love me some split toe derbies now" lol
    Thanks again, for your work for the people.

    Back in the day, when we had a style called "Hustler", wide cuffed pleated slacks,10-11 inch seam2seam, Italian double knits, suits, retro ties, fedoras, and applejacks.and jeans were dungarees, and were never worn when out on the town, (most places wouldn't even let you in if you in if you were wearing them)
    All of us owned at least one pair of what you're calling a Split toe derby,
    we called them 'Kangs', because we thought they were made of kangaroo leather.
    they came in various colors, black, brown,tan, green, gray, oxblood, including my favorite, an oak & white spector traffic stoppers!
    Ofcourse styles have changed since then, thankfully mine's haven't,
    although I quit smoking years ago, so I no longer require the cigarette holder, and that's one style I'm glad i dropped

    Split toe derby is an iconic style of shoe that has been around for many, many years. Most major brands of high quality shoes (Allen Edmonds, Alden, Crockett & Jones, Church's, etc.) have at least one model of Split Toe derby for sale. Very popular in France, judging from the number of models available from French brands Paraboot, Heschung and Mephisto. I particularly like Paraboot and Mephisto for casual shoes with thick rubber soles.

    When it comes to dress watches , do you match your watch to your shoes? Are sport watches with steel band ( omega speed master, breitling navitimer , Cuervo y Sobrinos) ok to wear with a suit? You should talk about lapel pins, tie pins & cuff links.. love your style and content👍

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What's up Wilfredo? And thanks for your kind words. When it comes to watches, I always aim to match the band with my shoes and watches like the Navitimer for example are too casual for a suit plus the dial is too big. I'd say you want the case to be under 40mm, 34mm-38mm is ideal.

    Another great video as always! How do they compare to Yeossal in your opinion?
    I ordered a pair of Yeossal (Duke in plum museum size 42) and I think they are absolutely beautiful, unfortunately they turned out to be too big for my feet and I'll have to return them (since nobody seems to be interested in buying them). Now that I'll need to replace them I'm wondering if I should give Oct 10 a shot. I ordered me the SoH split toe last year in Utah Calf and I really like them a lot!

      @v_r_  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What's up, bro? They're extremely similar and I'll make a comparison video eventually after wearing both for a little while. The YRB last fits me perfectly while the Pu is just decent but that's subjective. As long as your instep isn't low, OT is definitely worth a look.

  • @danielfrancis3660

    Whilst watching your video I paused it and went to the Edward Green (EG) website to have a look at the Dover with the 606 last and i must admit i prefered the Dover. The reason being was that the last you chose in combination with the split toe seemed to result in a double point at the front of the shoe. The EG shoe had the point at the front of the apron but with the 606 last the square edge at the front seemed to soften the whole front of the shoe which I liked. Keep up the good work and the education.

    I think a split toe derby is an acquired taste. I don’t dislike it but haven’t really looked at one ‘yet’ and it’s a different look and quite distinct. I'm confused around 9:50 you say you have a high instep but I thought you had flat feet which is low instep right? I do have flat feet more or less. How did these end up fitting you? I'm considering the shang and hai last because it has less volume.

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically having flat feet also results in a low instep but in my case, I have flat feet and a high instep. The Pu last fits me well, I’ve worn them a few times and I’m very happy. The Shang and Hai do have less volume but not by that much, if you have a lower instep, let Tom know so he can make some adjustments. Otherwise, they will not fit you.

    Beautiful ones. A agree with you : split toe derbies seem to be « connaisseur » shoes. Personally I think my favorite color is a dark brown burnished or something similar.
    And you didn’t really say it on the video but : how do you feel about the Dover from Green ? 😊

    • @v_r_
      @v_r_  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What's up, Jean? The Dover is excellent, all the pictures I've seen, the leather always looks top notch and the finishes are second to none. With that said, I don't think they're worth the $1,600 price tag with all the other options that are out there.

    I wasn’t a big fan of split toe derbies but those are fire 🔥..... The split toes derbies you’ve been showing on this channel are starting to change my mind.... I guess most of the split toe derbies I’ve been use to seeing at the workplace are bulky and not my cup of tea, but they look sharp on the sleeker lasts!

    Great Brand and I wouldn’t known about them except for you! Split Toe Derbies are what Ribeye steaks are to steak eaters; A real shoe enthusiast choice. They are super comfortable due to the vamp and apron and have great for presence on the foot ( an under rated discussion ) that doesn’t necessarily come across in pics or videos, but dominates in person.

  • @ricardorgomez
    @ricardorgomez 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had a huge grin when you were nodding your head at the beginning of the video... The things people think of when when looking at sometimes the most regular things.... Made me laugh. :-D
    I didn't even think of the 'split-toe' when I bought my first pair of derbies of the same style. At the time, there wasn't a huge amount of information about shoes as there is now. I just like the style and though the split at the front was purely functional more than a style nod. I really didn't give it a second thought. But I like the style. I think they come second behind chukas. I just like the support and more coverage of them. But I love split toe.
    Enthusiast? Probably. Because beginners or more conservative types probably wouldn't go for them. Initially. Keep up the great work!

    Really beautiful shoes. I like grained leather and I like burgundy. But my first good pair of shoes were wholecuts, where of course the only seam is at the heel, so split-toe shoes always make me think the seam at the front means the shoes are made that way for the sake of economy. But you showed a split-toe derby with a Norwegian welt in a previous video and I liked the contrast in the colour of the stitching with the leather, even though the heavy stitching of the welt itself was a little over the top. So I think I'd come around to wearing this style if the shoes were more casual, had a double sole, prominent stitching like those with the Norwegian welt, and a 360 goodyear welt instead of the Norwegian. All the better if the apron were grained leather and the rest smooth, or the reverse of that.

    First, great video V! I am getting all my friends to subscribe. Now, like I always say, I am skeptical about Chinese-made shoes that are so inexpensive. I am hoping that they hold up because I have purchased a few pairs myself. I received a pair of Acme shoes today and they look great......so far. LOL But please don't forget to do a six-month and maybe a nine-month video, particularly, on these made in China shoes. Time and wear will give clues to leather quality and construction. And remember the adage: All new shoes look fantastic. The other thing I ask of you, since you've become a US advertiser for these companies, is to see if you can provide some assurances that the people making these shoes are not being abused or underage, etc. China hasn't been the best actor with respect to human rights and labor laws (even ad laws i.e., claims of handmade, etc). I desperately hope that the fact that they are so inexpensive isn't because workers are being mistreated. I don't want to discourage people from obtaining something they wouldn't otherwise have financial access to, but let's feel good about the. clothes we wear. I know you have heart like that. I can tell. Thanks!

At that time I was literally referring to the animal its self, but I guess it does look like a woman's cat too. Either way tho, it's definitely an acquired taste imo, i just can't unsee them as camel feet. As for them looking like the female's thang, I don't really want my shoes to look like that cos I can always just appreciate the real thing so i'd rather appreciate the shoes for their different shapes and craftmanship rather than relating it to a sexual object hahaha. But still I lowkey feel like this will grown on me one day, just like how I used to not like double monk straps but now I think they're pretty interesting.
