    This is an absolute "Must Watch" for new players like me! I have enjoyed all your other videos, but this one is probably the most useful. I have defiantly added it to my rewatch library.
    I think it brings to light one of the biggest hurdles to this great game. Figuring out just what all the nuances of the card rules are. This is my first card-based game. I come from over 50 years of hex and counter-type games, some with massive rule books, but I have never been challenged to figure out how to work my way through a play of the game like I am with MC. I know others who just gave up on the whole thing or refused to play again because of the issue. Even veteran Warfighter players have gotten frustrated. I will see if I can have them watch your video and get them back to the table.
    Again, excellent piece of work, and thank you for your time and effort.

      Oh that is really interesting to hear about your war gaming experience not translating over to this kind of game. I haven’t done any war gaming but I’ve watched a few play throughs and they definitely look very rules intensive, but in a much different way apparently.
      As someone who’s played card games like this my entire adult life I sometimes forget how incredibly complicated these kinds of games really are. And even Champions, which was really presented as a more “casual” take on the genre is still very complex with a ton of moving parts and rules exceptions.
      I’m very glad to hear this will be useful for you and I hope it does help your friends give it another go as well! I meant to say this in the video, but you can always absolutely feel free to ask any questions you run into in the comments of any video and I’ll be happy to try to answer them as quickly as I can!
      Thanks for always watching along and leaving such nice comments. I really really appreciate it!

      @@GetUpandGame I think the biggest difference is in the Hex&counter games, the rules can be complicated, but really don’t change. Being a “living card game”. Each new pack brings a whole new set of things to master. For some this is great for others more of a challenge.
      On a separate note, a suggestion. I am not steeped in the Marvel lore like many players. Other than the films. Maybe a show on iconic hero/villain matchups. I play for immersion in the characters. I know you can play any against any, but…. It would be like in Warfighter sending Finns to fight the Japanese. Might be interesting, but it just doesn’t seem right. You could do a tier list of villains or hero’s and match up the opposite from a lore POV. Just an idea.

    🚨Rules Reference 1.5 Update:
    The obligation is no longer shuffled in separately via a later step of setup. Now all the obligations are shuffled in along with the other encounter sets
    Also, the setup rules while playing in a Campaign take place after the villain is fully setup, but before the hero draws their opening hand

    This was a fantastic video! 👏 Many of these I learnt the hard way in the early days of MC. And it was specifically the Peter Parker ability that made me think I was supposed to “build pools” of resources, and that in turn made me think I could split double resource cards. I’ve read through the updated rules more than once, and I watch a lot of MC on YT, but we still end up in situations where we’re not sure about interactions/timing sometimes. So videos like these are great 👍😁

    Hi, ok so the questions and answers from what I can gather are pretty straightforward for the most part. Alot of it has to do with synergy and logic. I have played this game solo more than 10 times and won once - here are my questions:
    1. Exhaust v Ready - I am in AE for V phase. At the beginning of P phase can I exhaust my AE and then switch to H form and exhaust as well to either Att or Thw?
    2. Threat Counters - on the schemes it has a player symbol after the max threat amount. So with one player the main scheme on Rhino has to reach 8 before it is fulfilled. Correct?
    3. Defeating a Villain - lets say you defeat Rhino 1. Do the minions attached to Rhino 1 get defeated as well? Does the threat on the main scheme get removed back to 1? Which leads me to the next two questions...
    4. Can you do damage to a villain and not a minion? Nothing in the rules? My understanding is surely the minion, like an ally, would take the damage first? Yet nothing in the rules?
    5. Threats - can you remove a threat from the main scheme if there are side schemes in play? Again, nothing in rules, but surely the side scheme would have to be removed first?
    6. 2nd V Phase - ok so the V either A or Sc. You add up the counters on the V, the Min or attach cards if necessary, and then you deal from the E deck and add the bottom right boost symbols. What if you deal a when revealed card instead? My understanding, again without clarification, is that no additional boost is added but you have to deal with that card first before the V A or Sch's. However, what happens if that card is a card which says " The V A or Sch and when according to what form you are in they are meant to do the opposite? Do you switch forms even though you are in the V phase? Does the V Sch and the Att or vice versa?And then since this card is now a revealed card do you have to reveal a secondary card as well? If so, I have lost games on just this one move by the V sometimes without the V even needing to deal a 2nd E card?
    Last Q.
    7. Iron Man's Mark V Suit - how the heck are you meant to play this when the resource costs are so high and you are only allowed to have the tech cards + 1 in your hand? The only way is that once you get these cards you play them one by one as an upgrade, removing them from your hand but in play but not activated yet. Again, no clarification in the rules.
    Thanks

    • @GetUpandGame
      @GetUpandGame  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions!
      1. If you exhaust in alter ego form you’ll still be exhausted when you flip to hero form. Now, most alter ego abilities don’t require you to exhaust, so you are allowed to use an AE power, switch to hero form, and then use your hero power. But once you exhaust, unless you use some ability to ready you won’t be able to exhaust again.
      2. Rhino’s scheme is complete when it reaches 7 per player. So if it gets to 7 in a solo game then the player has lost.
      3. Defeating the villain only advances them to the next stage, it doesn’t affect the main scheme or the minions
      4. You don’t have to attack the minions if you don’t want to. They’re completely separate characters from the villain. Though if they have Guard, you won’t be able to attack the villain until they’re defeated
      5. Same as 4. You can choose to ignore side schemes, though if they have the Crisis icon they need to be removed before you can remove threat from the main scheme
      6. When it’s the villain’s time to activate, they will attack or scheme depending on your form. They initiate their activation (let’s say you’re in hero form so they’re attacking) and then a boost card is dealt. Then you choose whether or not to defend. Once you’ve made that choice, you flip over the boost card and look at the bottom right ONLY. In this part of the villain turn you’re only interested in the boost icons, or if there’s a boost ability. You ignore any When Revealed effect. Then you perform the boost ability if there is one. If there isn’t, you simply add the boost icons to the villain’s attack and then they deal that much damage. After that each minion will attack you. And then after that you deal 1 face down encounter card and then reveal each face down encounter card in front of you, one at a time
      7. With Iron Man, you need to stay in alter ego form for a couple turns so you can get as many tech cards on the table as possible. It can be difficult to do in solo play. Sometimes you need to flip up to hero form for a turn, and then you might have a small hand size for that turn, and then you’ll want to go back to alter ego for the next turn so you have a 6 card hand size again. But what you can’t do is play cards to the table and then finish paying for them later. You can only play a card it you pay it’s full cost in that moment.
      I hope that all made sense and I’m happy to answer any more questions!

    I'm playing MC since the release of the core set but I still have learned some rules in this video.
    I did not knew you lose the extra hit points given by Upgrades (like Endurance) when they get discarded. I assumed you reverse back to your max hp if you have more and just don't lose any hp if you were above printed hp.
    And for the consequential damages, I was not sure they triggered at the end of the atack/thwartt sequence. I had the feeling it was the way it worked but the clarification is welcome. I wondered this last week with the Magneto ally card.

    I keep hearing people say you can "trigger encounter cards" in other peoples turns...the rules clearly state otherwise. "Player Turn"...In the "ask a friend to do an action", there is NO "trigger encounter card" option (Note: As stated in "Ownership; Encounter cards are "Controlled" by the scenario), it only appears in the list for the active player! Very much the same as someone else cannot do "basic actions" nor "play an upgrade" during your turn - because they are not in that "ask a friend" list. Sure, YOU can do ANY encounter card during YOUR turn including those infront of others), but no one except the active player can clear ANY encounter cards - "Obligations" are 'specifically called out exceptions' (can ONLY be the influenced player). So "No you cannot remove "Solid-Sound Body" during someone else turn in MPer".

      One of the earliest rules questions asked to the designers was about this very thing! From Hall of Heroes:
      Can you request an action to remove an encounter card attachment for another player, like say, with Black Panther’s Vibranium, out of turn like all other actions?
      That sounds like a small oversight to me. You absolutely can ask a friend to resolve the Hero Action on an encounter card during your turn.
      -Caleb
      So we’ve known for a long time that it was their intention to allow this. Now that being said, weirdly it’s still not in the Player Turn section of the latest Rules Reference 1.5, so other than the designer himself saying this was allowed I don’t know how else we’re supposed to know it’s ok 🤷‍♂️

    In the rulebook setup section there is point #10: "Resolve Scheme Setup. (...) Resolve any "When Revealed" abilities on encounter cards that entered play during setup". It's still confusing for me what should happen with Weapons Runner according to that rule vs "putting into play" effect from Klaw scheme setup. 🤯

    • @GetUpandGame
      @GetUpandGame  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Weapons Runner will come into play and it won’t surge. That rule is referring specifically to cards having the “when revealed” text. So you would flip to 2b which has a When Revealed ability that tells you to discard cards until you discard a minion and put that minion into play. Since the minion was put into play it wasn’t Revealed so it’s Surge doesn’t trigger 🙂

    • @GetUpandGame
      @GetUpandGame  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welcome to the channel! 😀
      I think it’s an absolutely stellar 1 player game. You’ll quickly find if you watch more of my stuff that I’m almost exclusively a true solo player. And I think it work’s phenomenally well. It’s definitely a little different, as the decks need to be more general purpose in order to handle everything the game is throwing at you. As opposed to multiplayer where you can specialize the decks without needing to account for every element of the scenario. But I personally love that style of deck building where you have to make it work for everything. I think it makes for a fun and interesting challenge.
      The game scales very well so that everything works for a true solo experience, as opposed to some games where you have to have special rules for 1 player. Many games that do advertise 1 player require you to play the game differently or have special components. Nothing like that here. It’s the exact same game as the 2 3 and 4 player game.
      Some cards are more or less highly valued in solo, and some villains are easier or harder. But it all works no problem.
      Solo games are super easy to set up and are generally pretty quick.
      All in all I truly believe this game offers the best true solo experience out there for depth of play vs time and setup.

    35:50 This seems contradictory. Earlier it was explained that, unlike interrupts, responses happen after the triggering effect has completely resolved. So, wouldn't Tigra's healing ability trigger after she completely resolved her attack, which would include defeating the minion and taking damage?

    • @GetUpandGame
      @GetUpandGame  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would think so and I totally see what you’re saying. Responses trigger immediately upon the resolution of their triggering effect. So in this case the triggering effect is “when Tigra attacks and defeats a minion”. The instant the minion is defeated the response triggers and she heals one damage. They’ve ruled that consequential damage is the very last thing that happens when an ally attacks so that doesn’t happen until after the response triggers.
      The thing I was hoping to drive home with the “completely resolved” verbiage is, I’ve see a lot of people trigger things too soon, like with Counter punch they’ll play it immediately when they exhaust to defend, instead of waiting until after they’ve defended, which doesn’t take place until after the damage step of the attack.
      So it’s kinda tricky and really depends on each individual response. You gotta see when the triggering condition takes place and go from there

    • @GetUpandGame
      @GetUpandGame  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh that’s a really good question I had never considered! I do believe the cards would push you over the 50 card limit as they don’t count toward your deck size. So it’s as if they aren’t even there. But like you say, probably not the best idea normally but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some fun combo somewhere that could somehow make use of this!

  • @heroicskeleton1566

    With something like the Mark V Armor, if you lose it, do you also lower your current hit points by 6 even if you weren't at full? So if you were at 5 health, you would be KO'd?
    Also, idk if this gets answered at all but before I forget (haven't finished the video yet): I had an issue last night where the villain was attacking and we defeated that stage mid attack. Ghost spider did her event that triggered off a basic action (defense) to do damage. What do we do there? Does the attack end? Continue with stage 1 stats? Change mid attack to stage 2 stats? Automatically trigger when revealed on the villain?

    • @GetUpandGame
      @GetUpandGame  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anytime you lose something that gave you hit points then you do lose those hit points. So that can cause you to lose! 😖
      The moment you defeat the villain you immediately move them to their next stage, do any when revealed abilities, and then continue with the activation. This wouldn’t happen with Ghost Kick however. Since that says “after she uses a basic power” then you wouldn’t play Ghost Kick until after Gwen was done defending. Meaning after the villains attack had been resolved.
      If it said “when” she uses a basic power then you would play it immediately. But because it’s a Response you have to wait until the thing you’re responding to is over. And a defense isn’t over until the villain has fully resolved it’s attack 🙂

      @@heroicskeleton1566 you’re welcome! The key is always in “when” or “after”. If it’s a “when” then it happens immediately before the thing that triggers it, and if it’s an “after” it happens after the triggering condition is completely resolved 👍

      @Get Up and Game! Yeah, I had desperate defense in the deck, too, and I wasn't too sure if it worked well with her or not. But now that i better understand the timing, it looks like it does. If your max hp is increased, but you have taken damage to less then your original hp, and then you lose the upgrade, do you effectively take damage equal to the boost you lost?
    So say a hero has 10 hp being boosted to 15, but took damage down to 9, and then they lose their +5 boost. Would they be at 4 hp or 9 at that point?

    I have noticed on your plays that when you get additional encounter cards you put them to the back whereas other players put them on top, is this a conscious decision you have made or is it just an ambitious rule?

    • @GetUpandGame
      @GetUpandGame  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s not explicitly stated in the rulebook that you have to resolve the cards in a certain order, but it does refer to your encounter cards as a “queue”. So I’ve taken that to mean that you’re meant to resolve them in the order that they were dealt to you so that’s usually what I do. The exception is with surge. When a card has surge you’re meant to resolve the surge card next, even if you have more encounter cards in your stack. In the end it doesn’t matter like 99% of the time lol but it’s a habit I’ve gotten in to 🙂
