thats crazy that was at least a 40 year old sand bass... its a shame he had to keep it... you should have given him some facts about saltwater bass and tell him thats such a big saltwater bass it should be released and at least told him how long they take to grow and how many people use fish like that as sport fish....
I did and he was my client and it was Father's day and he wanted it. it was a legal fish and a fish of a lifetime...

You should have released that. That is an irresponsible size of bass to keep. Those are the fish that make the population of bass grow to a more sustainable level. This is the reason that we need a slot limit for bass to keep. Fish that big need to be released to help grow our fishery and improve it for the future.

Surfnbrett B just started fishing last year so a lot of info is news to me. This is a monster, only from 5 years ago...that’s pretty awesome to see, but I bet people hit the bay bass sooo hard after they saw this video....I never knew what slot limits meant but heard it a lot from Florida fishing videos here on TH-cam. I think that is a damn smart idea and I do agree that this fish should have been released. There’s no need to keep a producer like that, photos and vid are all I need so I’m glad I am seeing this and understanding people’s concern. I also understand you were running a charter so it really wasn’t up to you with paying customers. Slot limit would be smart in the future.

There are PLENTY of big sand bass there at the breakwall, I fish but spearfish a lot at the breakwall and I could tell you that I see about 5 monster sand bass every time I go diving at the breakwall. I do agree on the meat being tougher the bigger and older they are but believe me there are plenty of them out there.
Learn to catch and release monsters like that
For someone who preaches in other episodes about releasing large bass that was kind of pathetic keeping such a large bass.

+Get Dough there is only one part of the breakwater that you can do that. The part I fish can only be reached by a boat.

sorry I don't own the boats that we charter. The prices might be a little higher on some trips, but not all trips, we charge a little more, because we limit the number of people on the boats.

I would like to see the size limit increase again maybe to 16 to 20 inches, but I know that would hurt sport fishing boats.

I think there should be a slot size like you can only keep 14-18 inch bass

Really? I go freediving and seen some huge barred sand bass. Never really went after them because I see signs on piers to not eat this and among other fishes. Besides, I'm not much of a fish guy anymore.
Why are they taking the barred sand bass? It's not recommended for consumption.

We were actually fishing for a shark that was swimming around my boat when this huge bass ate our live mackerel.
Release the breeders, eat the feeders.
Can't believe they killed that bass ,
