In this funny and educational fishing video, I reveal YET ANOTHER Secret shore fishing spot in Newport Beach California. It can be hard to find good spots to fish out here, but I am here to help everyone hook up and CATCH MORE FISH! I catch some spotted sand bass and provide a lot of good fishing tips! This is a very nice spot to fish and there is plenty of room if there is a lot of people. In this case, there wasn't many people fishing. I assume it's due to the "stay-at-home" ordinance for the corona virus. This however, could not stop The Perch Jerker from enjoying his fishing! Try the Wedge sometime. I've been fishing at the tip of the Wedge since I was about 6 years old. I'm now 64. My father was a spear fisherman and had been taking us there since the 60's.

Wait for low tide. And try to cast out as far as you can and reel fast once it gets close. As for sinking bait, theres a few snags there. Also, head down further, less salad.

Just for the folks who don't know, if the fishermen had lines in the water the bay patrol boat was probably either warning them or citing them. You cannot fish from a boat anywhere inland from the PCH bridge. Shore fishing only in that area and fishing ends at the North Star beach area. From there into the back bay is 100% protected marine reserve.
Tons of people fish there, seen people troll on their boats even the pavilion rentals let alone kayaks

It is protected. You can not take fish from this spot.
The sheriffs told us that there is no fishing in the back bay until you get past the overpass.
From a boat, it’s not allowed. But from shore. You’re allowed. They were lying or something lol

FYI be careful there, if you're caught with lugworms or mussels you'll be charged with poaching as mollusks and marine worms are protected and even though the worms or clams were legally obtained elsewhere it still counts as possession of them in that particular spot, which has special regulations prohibiting the possession of worms or mollusks or crustacea from there.
which is a shame because it's probably the best sargo spot in the entire state

Jay Lovero It’s not illegal to fish there. You are allowed to catch and release from shore. It is illegal to keep fish or fish from a boat in this spot, yes. As long as you are in the bay on the other side of PCH, you can only catch and release from the shore. Other side of PCH, towards the ocean, is free game!

I just joking around with ya broseph lol I'm not a foe I'm freind to anyone who fishes regardless of age or skills etc although admittedly not big fan of TH-cam vids on fishing the bay solely because our bay is so small and theres million gunny sackers and ice chest fillers within hours drive, you know the ones of which I speak, you see em with litter of kids and ole lady and they be sneaking every fish caught up to car and pillaging bay, teaching them where to and how to catch lots of spotties butts etc in our bay is NOT something I'm fan of there's plenty of water elsewhere for them to fill freezer from but our bay is so small a few extra thousand people a year resulting directly frkm TH-cam vids without question impacts biomass of fish. Furthermore the huge schools of baby white sea bass in the bay are so delicate and gill plates so fragile that when caught your avg person is not capable of a non fatal release and that's not to mention the avg fool from inland who takes them home ! Bay is also a halibut spawn and nursery spot and those fools poaching baby halibut in long run has huge impact on halibut biomass of all of Orange county. Catching bonito baracuda other fish that enter bay chasing bait schools then leave are no big deal but the ones that spawn grow up or live here year round are very delicate and in limited numbers in a very small bay, so, if I'm being honest I'm no fan of posting on TH-cam and teaching or showing gunny sackers bucket fillers ice chest poachers how to eff up our tiny bay. It's a epic fishery do those of us who live here and know how to fish it but avg local ain't filling freezer but thousands outsiders wh come here annually have no care and absolutely decimate it. All that aside, I bear u no ill will and glad to see any person who's stoked on fishing.

@@theperchjerker I totally get it and I get off on the passion of folks new to the game and love supporting anyine in all things fishing,,, just you'll find that those who put serious time in in the bay all end up realising how fragile it is and are very protective of it and stewards of it. I catch dozens and dozens of spotties every session and Catch thousamds halibut and countless schoolie baby white sea bass and croaker and all sorts stuff, but, I would NEVER post it on global forum and show tens of thousands people who do NOT possess same stewardship care over our tiny bay, I not hating you for it either just years from now after thousand more trips you'll feel me and would never want to broadcast the fishery either. But I know you don't think doing anything irresponsible at this time, but later you'll feel differently. We have all been there and all develop these feelings in long run, you'll see. In mean Time welcome to cali and keep on fishing. As kid I fished every single day after school all day on weekends and summer, got first job on a boat at age 13 capts license at 20 have made good living and worked the ocean all over this hemisphere and had great life from it, I fully support any and all fishing people regardless of age or skills I assure u.

Other people are allowed to fish too. I promote cleaning the beaches and piers on my channel and I also do a lot of beach cleaning myself. You can’t blame that on me 🤣 ANYWAY! This spot was so trash. Don't waste your time unless you feel like picking off kelp and weeds from your lines and having to put new bait after every reel back.
