    My daughter and I built an AMD65 kit with original barrel and it has over 15,000 rounds through her with no hiccups. She always cleaned it after shooting especially with corrosive surplus ammo. We had an IO Inc. AK that lasted just over 2,500 rounds before the barrel was dead. She replaced the barrel with a surplus one and its back up and running.

    One of the appeals of chrome lined cold hammer forged barrels would be the authenticity of it. And for accuracy, just use some AKOU accurizing vodka and you're good to go.

    Battlefield Vegas says that with their full auto AKs, the Romanian barrels in their converted WASRs have yet to burn out after literally tens of thousands of rounds. And this is a full auto range that goes through an obscene amount of full auto use, way more than a typical infantryman would, I would say. They've had trunnions crack around 80K-100K rounds, but said they've never needed to replace a barrel on one and they're still going strong.

      Their accuracy standard isn't good enough for drawing any conclusions. Their standard is: "as long as round isn't keyholing silhouette target from 10-25yds, barrel is good..."

      @@AkOperatorsUnion Yeah, I will say that. I do wish they maybe confirm zero at like 100 yards at least. Regardless however, I'm surprised that the rifling on the barrels arent completely shot out by like 20K or 30K, which is what I hear is typically the case with ARs.

      Even when shooting a basic semi auto schedule with mag dumps a chrome lined barrel with last about a third longer. On an AR it's a non issue cause how issue a barrel replacement is imo. But on the AK you need a hydraulic press and other tools to get it done.

      How are you going to prove 39 years of shooting? Google Ron from battlefield Las Vegas and read his blog on ak high shot count. He states that the ak is very popular among visters who come to his range. He stated that between 80,000 - 100,000 rounds he get a catastrophic failure in the front trunnion would crack or the barrel would get burned up and that was in a 2 and 1/2 year period shooting high volumes of rounds through it. My friend has achieved this from 39 years of shooting. I just thought I would share this with the group.

    • @Jorge-hj2tp
      @Jorge-hj2tp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not trying to promote any weapon. I understand there are idiots on the Internet that lie. I asked my buddy Paul G if he changed his barrel out cause I was under the impression that 30,000 rounds it was time to change the barrel out. I'm 40 years old and I remember my dad's buddy shooting the same rifle when I was a kid. I looked up if it was possible to shoot 100,000 rounds thinking maybe my pal exaggerated his claim but I've always known him to be a straight shooter. He let my 16 year old son shoot it at his strip pit/ private range and he was hitting a tree stump at 60 or 70 yards. I'm telling you what he told me and I believe him and again I am not trying to sell a favorite ak manufacturer. He had 3 as and sold 1 in 08 during Obama Era for $1200. He told me he didn't even pay $500 for all 3 back in 80 and 81 when his dad purchased them. I'll try to figure out how to start a youtube career so I can post some videos. I'm just a guy who likes guns and I like this channel because you all are fans of AK's as I am. I'm glad I did start paying attention to some stuff on the Internet cause I almost but a Ras47 a few years ago until I found this channel and quickly changed my mind on that pos and got a wasr. I just used that reference cause that guy has a shooting range and he rents weapons and he would definitely have several weapons on high round counts. I've had my wasr for a year and probably gave less than 2,000 through it. It's just to pricy to shoot 7.62 every weekend. I'll pick at my buddy Pauls brain tomorrow and get the skinny on it so I can give you guys more details.

      It's not a story bubbaI . I asked my friend what.he changed out on his rifle and he said nothing. I'm sorry I understand you don't know him but I do and I believe him. The AK is a tuff rifle. I live in southwest Missouri and I invite Robski to come check out our weapons and to inspect our rifles. I'm not bull shitting you bubba. I’d love a comparison of barrel life between using bi-metal jacketed ammo (what 99% of us shoot through an AK) versus copper jacketed ammo, especially through an authentic chrome lined AK barrel.
    For the sake of the experiment, it helps that Tula makes both.

    • @124thDragoon
      @124thDragoon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jim Beam yeah, I saw that. Awesome bit of science. But AKs have always used bi-metal jacketed ammo, and I wonder if 7.62x39's larger bearing surface, lower pressure, and/or lower velocity have any effect on barrel life.
      One thing to note on luckygunner's test, though, is that even though bi-metal jacketed ammo definitely kills barrels faster, it was still more cost effective over time. The amount of money you save over time by practicing with Wolf or Tula ammo will pay for - and then some - the additional cost of having to replace your AR barrel early.

    • @wormraper
      @wormraper 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I actually personally talked with Chase at Def arms for 45 minutes about barrels etc a few weeks back and he's confirmed that his nitride barrels that he sources are at 38,000 rounds of full auto fire and still firing just over 2.5 MOA ..some light wear on the lands and grooves but nothing massive. His exact ending words were "I used to be a chrome lined barrel guy or bust, but then I got more experience with different barrels in the real world and am no longer that guy" We talked about the prevalence of Romy and Polish Radom CL'd barrels being available and he stated that he wasn't that impressed with the new Radom barrels. Said they cut SUPER easy on his lathe and just seemed soft. He said that the new Radom barrels aren't the same as the old Circle 10 polish barrels from back in the day, and that he preferred the source he's using now for barrels and that they only cost a few bucks difference anyways. So it's not a matter of profit. It's a matter of what he feels he can trust
      people worry WAAAAAAAAAY too much about barrel coatings online, but real world high volume competition shooters, and manufacturers learned years ago that the differences between a good CL'd barrel and a good nitride barrel are almost nil. The idea that a non CL'd barrel will burn out in a few thousand rounds and a cl'd barrel will last 30,000 rounds is just pure internet banger at best.

    A question came up while watching this that I wanted to ask you Rob : If I have a CHF chrome lined barrel (in this case a Bulgarian SLR 104-43 FR) would using the steel cleaning Rod be bad for the barrel, or is it soft enough to not worry?

    • @kellyharbeson1948
      @kellyharbeson1948 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That steel cleaning rod is really only useful for removing stuck cartridge cases. Go with a bore-snake and get a proper nylon clad one-piece cleaning rod you can use from the breech.

    Hi Robski I’m very well aware that you are a man of considerable influence & I was wondering if you would please be able to talk to the fine people over at PSA and politely ask them if they would consider to start producing or making in the U.S. in mass a CHF Chrome Lined 4150 CMV Steel Alloy bbls with proper comb block 4 lands and grooves for maximum barrel life due to the use of standard Comb block Jacketed bullets vapourware. If you did that I’m absolutely sure that PSA would end up Converting our fine friend JIM BEAM. I guarantee that this would make him change his ways and have him finally give PSA the Acknowledgment the fine people @ PSA & PSA Itself for that matter they deserve, if you could do that I would be for ever grateful to you & I’m sure “our fine friend” would also be grateful too! Jim Beam I understand, and agree with some of your points. But the idea that in SHTF it would last long enough for you to go through 10’s of thousands of rounds and need to change out barrels or parts is no offense, delusional at best. It makes sense to have spare parts to keep your guns running, but the likely hood of firing that many rounds and seeing that much combat is a preppers wet dream and nothing more.
      If SHTF happens you’d run out of food and resources before you out shot the rifles you have. If SHTF lasts longer than 3 years, you’re essentially fucked regardless. Societal collapse and disease would spread faster than anything else, and would eventually spread to your water source as well.
      The point im getting at is if you think a war or SHTF is coming, and that it will last long term to the point you need rifles that can sustain themselves past 10,000+ rounds you’ll be dead long before then.
      Lack of reinforcements, combat experience, air support, thermal seeking equipment, steady supply of food and water that can last years, etc.

    Tell me, Rob, would you be interested in being assigned to 10th Mountain Division? If you were stationed at Fort Drum, you could live in Vermont. @Jim Beam Wait, wait, wait. First, don't go dumping elected socialists on me. There's a ton of lefty residents, mostly in Chittenden County (some in Montpeculiar), and that's the place that dictates to the rest of the state. Which is why I'm encouraging people with morals and common sense to move here. Second, there are NO banned weapons in Vermont. Was born here and only left the state for a total of 5 years. Bad enough a RINO passed the mag ban, but rest assured there are no weapons banned other than by federal edict. And having the right kind of people move here will keep it that way, maybe even remove the few restrictions.

    Question - Would using magazines that hold the bolt open on last round, or a safety lever that allows the bolt to be held back after mag dumps help barrel life, or is the damage already done while shooting and would have no effect?

    • @AkOperatorsUnion
      @AkOperatorsUnion  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Holding bolt back after shooting helps to circulate air through the bore but if you will immiadietly close it and dump another mag, that would be just minimal brake. Not enough to make a difference. So again, it depends on user. But yes, keeping bolt open helps to cool barrel off faster.
