Best John Lennox retort ever..... Stephen Hawkings said that "Religion is a fairytale for people who are afraid of the dark" John Lennox came back with "Atheism is a fairytale for people who are afraid of the light". Quick as a whip that John Lennox is!!! Great defender of the faith!!!!!

Very few jump to atheism because it makes them feel better. I bet if you could peer into the minds of most atheists, you would see them longing for a God. It certainly isn't a fairytale. Religion, on the other hand, almost always includes the optimal outcome for a person. So, as usual, Lennox uses poetic language, but really says nothing at all about the actual existence or non-existence of God.

      @@alternativefernandez6471 nonsense.
      - Very few jump to atheism because it makes them feel better.
How do you know? Have you done research? How many have you asked?
      - I bet if you could peer into the minds of most atheists, you would see them longing for a God.
Have you ever tried to debate atheists? Most of them hate God in my experience. If they didn't they would search for him and find him.
      - Religion, on the other hand, almost always includes the optimal outcome for a person.
Almost always? Have you studied all religion? What is the exception to the rule? Can you tell me in your own words what Christianity teaches and what the "optimal outcome" is for a christian?
      - So, as usual, Lennox uses poetic language, but really says nothing at all about the actual existence or non-existence of God.
This is just an ad hominem, he's well known for debating FOR the existence of God.

@@alternativefernandez6471 I don’t know that it is possible to say that “very few jump to atheism because it makes them feel better.” All that you can say is that not all choose atheism because it makes them feel better. Some have a longing for God. Something in their psyche doesn’t allow them to move toward God though. In my case I was befriended by an atheist when I was younger who challenged me on my faith. He was always challenging me. His driving motivation was that he didn’t want a god to interfere with his choices in life much like Bertrand Russell. Richard Dawkins has voiced similar thoughts. Thomas Nagel said, “I hope there is no God! I don’t want there to be a God”. Most atheists writing today seem to be saying that atheism makes them feel better about their choices. In other words they feel better without God. Not rational reasoning but hey, they’re atheist.

@@alternativefernandez6471 I went through a period of existential crisis when I lost my faith. It definitely wasn't a picnic. It took awhile to accept "I don't know" as an answer to questions that I formerly believed I had iron-clad certainty for.

I love this. I was taught in America in public school. I loved science and took science classes that I was not even required to take. (but I struggled with the mathematics). I was raised Christian and my faith was at the core of my understanding of my existence. But the teachers (especially in biology oriented classes) assumed and taught that evolution was the only logical theory as to how life began and human kind came to be. This as you can imagine caused a lot of "fights" inside my young mind. I am relieved to know that people with much higher IQs than mine are strong in their faith in God and The Holy Bible. I suspect that many youth are in the same quandary because people they respect are telling them that God is a fairy tale and if they were more intelligent, they would see that. Thank you! May God bless y'all! By the way, if string theory turns out to be true, (strings vibrating), It isn't hard for me to think that God's voice started those original vibrations. :-)

Two extremely intelligent people. I loved when Lennox and Meyer talked about "the primacy of the Word" and how Lennox even told people like Hoyle that matter and energy were derivative. Yet, he can't follow Luther's simple recommendation--which ironically was written to people who couldn't accept that God even took 6 days to create. Luther said:
"“When Moses writes that God created heaven and earth and whatever is in them in six days, then let this period continue to have been six days, and do not venture to devise any comment according to which six days were one day. But if you cannot understand how this could have been done in six days, then grant the Holy Spirit the honor of being more learned than you are. For you are to deal with Scripture in such a way that you bear in mind that God Himself says what is written. But since God is speaking, it is not fitting for you wantonly to turn His Word in the direction you wish to go.”
I think what makes me so sad is what Lennox said about the atheists--without realizing it applied to those (like Meyer and Lennox) who only accept the Bible as far as their intellect allows them to. Lennox said: "It is so obvious, yet I know many professors who can't see it." Yes, sadly I do, too!
And, it is hard to support people who stand against and undermine the full Word of God (Jesus Christ) in order to mesh with and gain or maintain credibility within the pseudoscientific brainwashing and bullying community of evolutionism/bigbangism. The real people standing "against the tide" are what is called young earth creationists, but in actuality are just the Bible-believing creationists. Even, Dawkins recognizes that.

A special thanks to both , but especially to Stephen Meyer. Although I'm not a scientist , I've always had had an interest in it. After watching the video "The Information Enigma" , I was completely floored at how
lack-less in substance naturalism is at explaining any of their main principles of their Ideology. Yes , science
demonstratively shows a Creator and Intelligence if you rationally evaluate it without bias or impiety.

I went to the site and searched on TH-cam but am unable to obtain the movie. There are copies I suppose on TH-cam but they don’t play or have sound. Was it actually released in November? How can we watch this? It really shouldn’t be that difficult.

9:21 “The _laws_ of nature don’t actually cause things. They describe patterns that we observe but they’re not the _causes_ of things.”
*And* _good_ scientists acknowledge that this is true, that language is a shape which relates a thing. But also that in a deeper semiotic sense, things themselves are slippery chains of signifiers-words referring to words referring to _is’s_ which inform our _oughts._

Currently studying all aspects of history that have played the biggest roles in societies; Science, Literature, philosophy, theism. From the same perspective of looking into the opposition . . Fascinating. I've came across John Hedley Brooke, Luc Ferry, Jürgen Habermas, Alexis De Tocqueville, C S Lewis, A.W Tozer, Leonard Ravenhill, George Whitefield, Charles Finney, Charles Spurgeon, John Calvin, H.G Wells. . And interested in anymore sources that point to accurate history?

I love Meyer's demeanor. He's so calm and rational. He's never disparaging unlike so many of the Atheists like Krauss riding the speaking circuit. I think maybe it speaks loudly about the confidence level of being right rather than getting angry because of the cognitive dissonance the Atheists seem to have knowing deep down that they are wrong.

These two are seriously informed and very interesting to listen to. The Greek word Logos in John also means rational... the Liddell Scott Greek Lexicon has 3 1/2 densely packed columns - definitions and meanings of this astonishing word. It is easily one of the most broad word in the entire Greek language. Logos = information... fantastic connection Dr Lennox!

What about the age of the earth. I commend you two gentleman for speaking on this topic with your opponents in a calm way.

    • @nsptech9773

I guess it's not feasible for anyone to justify the age of the universe except God himself.
So what does numbers like 13.8 million years imply? Nothing! You see, it's just a mere speculation based on ever changing conditions.
Astronomers estimate the age of the universe in two ways: (a) by looking for the oldest stars;(now stars also keep on dying at some point of time, so we can only guess at this point) and (b) by measuring the rate of expansion of the universe and extrapolating back to the Big Bang(now this is also a relative factor).
We as humans can't determine certain things except God reveals it to us! Where were we when God made us?
When we look at the Bible ,it says in 6 days God made the heaven and earth.
Now, the question arise with respect to what are the days estimated ?
Now, peter says *for God a thousand years is like a day* and a day like a thousand years.

Really creepy. I was listening to a video yesterday that mentioned the JFK assassination for all of 10 minutes. It also mentioned how Huxley died on the same day. I went to check it out and found out CS Lewis had also died on that day.
The next video I watched was this one which mentions the last year of CS Lewis being 1963.
