Every time he's walking he scans the pitch looks at vulnerabilities in the opposition's defense and other areas and after around 5 - 10 minutes he has an exact map of where to go and bring down players. It's a bit like Muhammed Ali when he watched his opponents and analyzed them before they would strike so he knew their tactics and how to bring them down. Only Goat stuff.

Agree, Di Maria didn't played against the Dutch and the Croatia game. So putting him against the France right off the bat was a gamble move, since he hasn't played yet and wasn't 100 percent fit. However, Scaloni made the right choice and it worked.
I honestly feel like it would've been best to put paredes in because he could've brought more stability and more control in the midfield, having four midfielders. Also the moment France scored their first goal, I felt that Paredes should've been brought immediately to help out control the game with Enzo and Mac. Or maybe Dybala, adding another attacker to keep on attacking France, not letting them breath.
He could've brought Lautaro Martinez early, I know that he wouldn't have done nothing impactful like Di Maria or Julian, but I personally feel he could've handled well against the two French CBs and been more dangerous as to what we saw in the last minutes of the match. Julian played so good, but I felt like he was sealed completely off, leaving only Messi and Di Maria attacking and piercing through the French defense.

My dad’s Colombian and my mom’s Puerto Rican, I’m born and raised in NJ. My mom’s not a fan of futbol (unlike my dad) but we ended up watching the final and really getting into it! When Argentina won we actually got up and cheered, not only was the cup returning to South America but Messi deserved this win, full stop. Such a legendary player, don’t think we’ll ever see someone like him, at least not in this lifetime

To answer your question about why Di Maria was removed, it was a communication error. Scaloni was attentive throughout the game in case Di Maria felt bad and regularly asked him how he was doing. In the last check-up, they misunderstood each other and Scaloni thought that Di Maria was asking him to be taken out because he was exhausted.

That was the thing, if Di Maria had been healthy for the 2014 final it would of been a different story. I've believed he would have been the difference. To think that in 2018 Argentina was absolutely terrible. They went to the world cup thanks to messi 3 goals against Ecuador I believe. Then scaloni came in. I had hope that he'd make a good change for Argentina while others had no faith in him. Then bit by bit. They started to play better and boom, copa América, finalisima and now the world cup. Sure he's made some dumb sub choices but overall I feel like we should give him a lot of credit as well. He led argentina to 3 international wins in a span of 4 years.
