The games were rigged in argentina favor and it was more than obvious unless you are a messi fan and think the fake goat needed help from every ref in every game to win. I have never seen a football tournament where the team is given a penalty in every game and the player blatantly handles a ball and the ref looks the other way!!! RIGGED!

They had 2 brilliant youngsters (Alvarez, Fernandez), a veteran genius in Di Maria, and whole squad of players happily running and fighting for their captain, but the biggest reason besides having Messi was the goal keeper, that guy is a beast when it comes to penalties and other clutch moments.

I always have a problem with people saying this though. Like if Messi is the best player, you play around him obviously. I don't see anything wrong with that.
To be fair, 2010, 2014, 2018, Argentina relied on him in an unnecessary way. This team basically did the hard and dirty work, and that allowed Messi to be more free. At 35, Messi is older, and the team didn't rely on him too much. Don't get me wrong, they relied on him, but they did not really rely on him in terms of needing him to do everything. Messi basically did everything because that's how he plays, but they all, all held their own.

Lionel Messi has completed the most beautiful story in football and no one will ever take it away from him anymore. The greatest football player in the history of the sport.
I can’t say I’m a big fan of Di Maria, but he has ‘completed football’ as well. He has now won the World Cup and Copa America with Argentina, plus an Olympic gold medal in 2008 (scoring in all 3 winning finals to top things off), the Champions League with Real Madrid in 2014 (producing a wonderful assist for Bale’s goal in the final and winning the man of the match award), league titles in Portugal, Spain and France, and domestic cups in Spain and France (scoring in the 2014 Copa del Rey final). That’s some CV.
Di Maria can be slimy but he’s one of the best players of the past 15 years. He consistently makes impactful performances in the most important games.
He is pressure made.

I told my son 'Argentina will win if the match ends up in penalty shoot out. Why? Because Hugo Loris is the worst penalty saver in the world while Emile Martinez is sure of saving at least 2 pen.. It lived up to expectations, dramas, full of suspect, rollercoaster of emotions. The match has all the sauce and pepper, Argentina was dominant in 70% of the time, Messi and Di Maria were exceptional but Mbabpe ultimately achieved his Golden boot dream thanks to Kingsley Coman and Kamavinga who added the much needed energy to wake up the sleeping French team. At the end Mbabpe got the Golden boot, Messi got the Golden cup. What a World Cup final we just watched in our lifetime

Di Maria was substituted ten minutes too early; this game would have ended in regular time if he had remained on the pitch a little longer. With him on the pitch, the French were amplified, but it all worked out in the end and made for a nervy and exciting final.
Yes! He was causing the French defense a lot of problems on that left flank. As soon as he was subbed, FRA started attacking relentlessly. The ARG coach got away with murder substituting Di Maria imo.

What a final. As someone who has been a Messi fan since he broke through at Barca, to see him win the world cup in possibly last game ever is just poetic. For me, he proved he was the best ever a long time ago. The needing to win a world cup argument has always been flawed; given a team wins a trophy, not one player. As great as he is, he's relying on ten others to do their jobs. That point was also perfectly demonstrated in this game; by the fact Mbappe scored three and still ended up on the losing team.
Anyway, it's so unreal to see Messi win it. Not only is he so incredible as an individual but has always been such a team player. Even at 35 remains a class apart from the rest as an overall attacker. Mbappe has what it takes to become one of the best ever; yet as great as he is in terms of his speed, directness and finishing, Messi offers so much more with his passing and ability to dictate the play. To think he's still competing on the biggest stage with the best of this new generation just underlines further why he's the greatest of all time.

Exactly and even though he was still with the team at the time, it was the lowest point ever and his mind was better invested in Argentina because Barca was heading nowhere and STILL won't be winning anything this year. Gavi and Pedri huge disappointments in the World Cup, Dembele absolute disaster especially in the final. Who do you have as your ONLY hope, Lewandoski, he isn't getting any younger and if I recall he will be out the first 3 games of La Liga return. Meanwhile, Benzema, Kroos, and the rest of the team with exception of Modric and Tchoumen have been getting plenty of rest and have also been training in preparation for the Treble. Speaking of Tchoumeni, despite him missing the penalty, for a young and inexperienced in first team he tore it up and even scored a golazo against England. Messi is Maradona everyday of the week, something which even Maradona wasn't able to sustain. He is simply the best.
He is truly better. Maradona was legendary and probably the most skillful player to touch a soccer ball. His club career is a different story cuz of the jack daniels and the booger sugar. We only really recognize maradona for his skills and international games and the hand ball which was the biggest injustice in the history of futbol.
You couldn't be Messi in the 1980s, it is this simple. Football was more brutal. Maradona in just 1 World Cup (1986) suffered more fouls than Messi in 5 World Cup editions! Then you had all the leeches living off him. And Maradona didn't have the luxury of playing for a club that dominated its league and spent as freely as FC Barcelona. Napoli were almost paupers.
