I think so. Montoya would have caught Kurt Busch. This is also a part of why NASCAR has the 6 minute repair clock. If a repair can't be finished in 6 minutes (which includes making minimum speed once the race goes back green), the car is retired from the race.
I know that spinning someone out in revenge is a froened upon thing in nascar, but there was no way edwards could have expected keselowski to flip at atlanta of all places
Back then atlanta was one of the fastest if not the fastest track on the schedule up there with michigan. With no restictor plates It’s no surprise he flipped with the airplane wing on the back as much as I loved the look of it
He go parked for like 2 races if it was just a Little spin he could've keep going or if he landed on his wheels but he landed on his roof and roof collapse
Yeah, but it was also at a time where drivers were expected to lift to prevent a crash, especially early in a race. Driver etiquette was in a different place than it is today. Brad's moves were considered aggressive at the time but they look like what we're now used to seeing every week by every driver.
I'm not a Brad fan but, the fact is Edwards knew what he was going to do and exactly where to turn him. Carl had intentions on payback. The messed up part is Edwards doing this payback could've killed not only a driver but the fans as well.
Carl Edwards was 40th, 156 laps down. Brad Keselowski was 6th, on the lead lap. NASCAR never looks kindly on when a driver many laps down takes out someone on the lead lap.
That is true, but the question is, where do you draw the line? An incident like Kenseth vs Logano at Martinsville, where speeds are pretty low, the chances of someone getting hurt are pretty slim. But, Carl knew there was at least a possibility of Brad going airborne, as Carl experienced the same thing at around the same speed (likely slightly faster due to restrictor plates vs the intermediate tracks at the time being unrestricted). And yes, you could say that it's not Carl's fault for the cars going airborne despite all the flaps deploying like they're supposed to, but I believe NASCAR was trying to set an example of what not to do at faster tracks than anything else.
Fun Fact .. Brad looks like a Chipmonk, and no one else in NASCAR does. Brad is "that guy" who always got in dust ups with other drivers who had reputations of driving clean .. Why do you think that is?
A "hermit recluse" that's considered 2 runs for political office?? Fun fact...Edwards and Keselowski are tied for total wins across all 3 divisions of NASCAR with 76, yet Edwards has been retired since 2017.
scary to think that if the corner of the SAFER barrier hit on the driver side roof just right it could have killed him.. dont even say that it couldnt have, otherwise the roof wouldnt have deformed like that in the first place if it was truly safe..
I can't believe back when this happened I cheered because Carl Edwards dumped Brad Keselowski...I'm ashamed I was at the time a Carl Edwards fan, and I'm ashamed I was also cheering when he crashed Brad at Gateway.
Back in the day there was a lot of people saying the penalty was too little because of how serious the crash was, and the safety of the COT was also talked about.
I've never understood why drivers expect other drivers to lift for them when they come down on them. Edwards did the same thing at talladega. If you're not clear you have to hold your position and if that means you gain a little lap time then that's what happens but if you're not fast enough to clear its not up to the other guy to lift for you
They don't really expect that today, but that was a different time. There was more respect for each other's race and overall well-being. Everyone expected each other to lift if a mistake was made to prevent ruining each others day or causing serious injury. - remember this was less than a decade after Dale died. The sport was heavily moving into a safer place.
I always thought this was one of the dirtiest moves in NASCAR. We now have another one that may take its spot. Bubba wrecking Larson and then pushing him. Lol. Kyle Busch and hornaday wa a another bad one.
Montoya could’ve won this race if it wasn’t for Edwards
always wondered how this finish would have played out if not for brads flip
Turbulence possibly caused Keselowski to crash, & the contact from Edwards was the thing that forced Turbulence on Keselowski himself.
Montoya was way faster
Montoya was gonna win I remember I saw the yellow and screamed Noooo cause I wanted Montoya, then instantly went holy fuck!!
I think so. Montoya would have caught Kurt Busch. This is also a part of why NASCAR has the 6 minute repair clock. If a repair can't be finished in 6 minutes (which includes making minimum speed once the race goes back green), the car is retired from the race.

it was deliberate, he knew he would flip because he turned him completely backwards on purpose
Even if he didn't expect a flip, he was about to smack the turn 1 wall HARD if he didn't flip.
Carl comes down on Brad on lap 41 and then, wrecks Brad as payback for his error and killed that a top 10 finish.
He go parked for like 2 races if it was just a Little spin he could've keep going or if he landed on his wheels but he landed on his roof and roof collapse

Honestly what Carl did was fucked up for the situation but I can respect a man who owns up to a fuck up.
If that car hit the wall half a foot higher with a bit more rotation I feel like this would have been a fatal incident if not a career ender for Brad.
Brad is lucky to be alive after that same with Carl at Dega
10 years later, same can be said for ryan newman.
NASCAR has always said this is a self policing problem and Edwards was just getting payback for Brad dumping him.
Edwards came down on Brad tho lol
I'm not a Brad fan but, the fact is Edwards knew what he was going to do and exactly where to turn him. Carl had intentions on payback. The messed up part is Edwards doing this payback could've killed not only a driver but the fans as well.
@@brandonowens3131 Carl hit the catch fence. Brad didnt hit catchfence, he hit the wall almost upside down i think

*AND WE HAVE A CAWSUN*
Fun fact: Brad’s a champion, and now owns Carl’s old team. Edwards is a hermit recluse, life is very unpredictable.
Brad sucks now too 😂
Fun Fact .. Brad looks like a Chipmonk, and no one else in NASCAR does. Brad is "that guy" who always got in dust ups with other drivers who had reputations of driving clean .. Why do you think that is?
@@TenGreenRangerslooks more like a horse
Fun fact: Carl is also a champion and a golden glove boxer. Which is why BK never wanted the smoke outside the car.

7:12 If you're talking about Talladega, Carl, you're either a fool or just vain
Still so whack for me that Brad survived this. Look at that fucking cage!!!! How was the bar not through his head?
Near death experience accident for sure. Kes is very lucky some Final Destination shit didn't happen with a stray roll bar and his skull.

Fake fan lol. Im an earnhardt fan and im never complained how he raced.
@@lk5388 no, he fake fan he just likes Carl and doesnt like Brad
Why would you be ashamed to be an Edwards fan? He was an incredible driver. He made a few mistakes along the way, but all drivers do.
I always cheered when Brad got dumped... By any driver.
don't listen to these ignorant fools. It was a disgusting move but these deranged fans can't take the filters off of their eyes
Look at the roof, i feel like this crash was never spoken about as being as serious as it was.
Back in the day there was a lot of people saying the penalty was too little because of how serious the crash was, and the safety of the COT was also talked about.
Carl's revenge
*AnD wE hAvE a CaWsHuN*
Yes it was necessary..he Brad straightened up his driving..
Someone needs to do this to Keselowski and Logono both this year. And love the guy slipping down on the fluid while trying to put speedy dry on it.
A karma crash

Carl was a damn bully! His positive attitude hid it some but he was dangerous!
I always thought this was one of the dirtiest moves in NASCAR. We now have another one that may take its spot. Bubba wrecking Larson and then pushing him. Lol.
Kyle Busch and hornaday wa a another bad one.
The move itself wasn't that dirty - there have been much worse. but the result was awful.
Carl should have been parked the rest of the year
7:34 that’s not good
Imagine if Bubba Wallace did this? Would the reaction be different? :)
Now imagine if this was a fatal incident
(pitchforks at Carl's house)
Bubba so much as looks at the camera and half the viewers are ready to boycott.
Thank god they got rid of these cars
Attempted murder
This is how you fix ross chastians driving
Brad was always a bully on the track. Brad has no problem wreaking others, he got what he had coming.
