I think it is safe to say every plant needs bright,, but indirect light and they like to remain moist but not saturated. Just went on a plant buying frenzy and they’re all battling for window space in the bright/but indirect area of my home LOL
Hahaha yeah most houseplants like that bright indirect light! But lately I've been buying more that can handle lower or medium indirect so that I don't have to pick favourites for the good bright spots haha! Thanks for watching!

Thanks this was really helpful and informative My aunt left me her cutting of a Swiss cheese vine before returning to Canada. So right now it's still in water. Some tiny roots are growing out of it. So I think it's almost ready to be moved to soil soon. This video helped me figure out what to do next

that one's still a wee little sapling, but one thing to plan for: once they get going, they do grow meter long vines fairly quickly. so have something for it to climb on. (particularly if they have a good amount of airy soil to extend into. i feel like active root aeration could make it take over my room in a year or two. lol) watering only little, but often, seems to do them well. and so does a little notmal liquid fertilizer. i give it about 15-20% of "full" concentration with every watering during the summer. as much as they grow, they really appreciate some ferts.
I have two of these grown from cuttings . They are quite a size now. I was going to put them together in same pot but I decided to plant separately. One i will hang and let trail, the other will climb a moss pole. Truly this is currently my favourite plant. I have been using a phytoplankton solution for fertilizer. Works great. Love your channel. I am struggling with calathea white fusion. Do you have one and have you had any success?
Yeah such easy and beautiful plants for sure! Love the idea of having one trailing and one climbing! Hopefully mine will get big enough that one day I can do the same. I don't have a calathea white fusion, but I feel like their requirements are pretty similar to other calatheas, maybe a bit more light because of the variegation, but still no sunlight. Those things are weeds are like slow growing weeds in the Philippines. It can handle full direct sunlight (in fact, loves it) as long as you keep the humidity high. I have mine on a vertical garden with other plants in hanging containers - keeps the humidity high when they're together. It loves fertilizers like pothos and you can keep feeding it as long as you have full sun and heavy humidity. Media: I grow with cocopeat and sand. When it comes out of the pot, it'll grab on to trees and then they grow huge leaves like 2-3 feet long.
You mentioned coco coir as soil majority, but that they don't like soggy roots...do you start your soil mix out wet-ish or do you work with it completely dry? Also, do they prefer a more compact pot or loads and loads of room? A safe rule of thumb is if it's toxic for animals, it's toxic for children.
The coco coir I got came in a big bag, not the blocks that need rehydration. So I start with it dry from the bag. As for pot, I'd say somewhere average amount of space, if you pot it up too big, it will focus its energy on root growth instead of foliage. Ooh I didn't know that rule of thumb thanks! Super helpful!
But what kind of fertalizer? I'm having a hard time finding a good fertalizer for this plant. I've seen hugly different ratio suggestions and some say liquid is better than soil fertalizer so I'm unsure.
What does brown and yellowing leaves but still growing like a weed mean? It’s hanging in my shower, there is a window in the shower but it hangs on the rail off to the side. There is a medium sheer curtain and blinds I adjust for privacy . I water it once a week an recently switched to two ish per the nursery’s instructions. I take baths 1-4x a week so it gets that kind of humidity ....
If the leaves are browning and soggy it could mean that they're getting too much water/moisture. Rather than sticking to a time based schedule, it may be better to water when the top of the soil is dry
Mine is a bit bigger than yours and I'm at the point where I have to choose if he should be staked to be upright or trailing all over and I'm so torn I want to just get another so I can do both 😭😭😭
Last week I went to my closest garden center to buy a snake plant and didnt buy the adansonii right next to it cuz I was on budget but they both were 9 dollars. I called the garden center and they said they all are taken and new stock is coming in feb 2021😭. Since then I have never found one.
I do a bit of both to be honest. It kind of depends on my mood/how much time I have to water them all. I think bottom watering is my preferred though. Hope that helps!

Im not a total expert but yes I think every few days is probably too often and that's why it's turning yellow. You should wait until the top inch or 2 is dry before watering again. And make sure the pot has really good drainage. Best of luck
It depends how much direct sunlight they're getting. If its many hours of hot sun, it may be worth moving them a bit further away so their leaves don't burn
Hi i have Brought a monstera deliciosa medam size 8cm pot had it in the pot for week and a half it look fine clean the leaves still fine i repotted it in a 29cm pot with cactus and suclants mix and allpeapase with John innes plus pearlight mixed up it was potbawn loosened the roots wen it was in its new pot drenched it missed it once a week this was fine arfter a week it has brawn spots don't know why
Hey! That is quite a big jump from 8cm to 29cm. This would be a massive shock for the plant. So the brown spots could be from that. Also because it was such a big jump in pot size, the plant will likely focus as much energy as possible on growing roots instead of leaves. If I were you, I'd probably repot into something about 10cm to give the roots a little bit of space, but not too much so the leaves still grow.

Yes they do start growing some arial roots and yes they certainly can climb, if you want the leaves to get bigger, get yourself a moss pole or something like that!
I have a cutting that I’m attempting to grow roots, the end turned yellow & black so I trimmed that part off. It appears it is starting to do that again. Is this normal when propagating or is there something I could do differently? It’s a nice long vine and I don’t want to lose it 😥
Ooh that's no good. It sounds like it's rotting. Is the cut close to the node? I find it best to not leave much stem below the node when propagating because it can tend to rot!

It's best to repot when it becomes rootbound in the pot. You may notice it drying out quickly or not growing anymore, or even roots growing out the bottom drainage holes! Good luck!

Thank you so much for watching! I usually water my plants when they get to the 'DRY' section of my water meter or when it gets to 3 out of 10. Yeah I defo had a problem with over-loving my plants when I first started, but one bad bout of fungus gnats and I learned my lesson!
That may mean that your soil is too firmly packed. Soil needs some air in it because roots need some oxygen to continue living! Maybe try packing it less tight? Best of luck!
Or you could even try squeezing the pot sides if u have in a plastic pot. If it's in something solid, u could use a stick or something to aerate the soil
I have a question, how long do you normally leave it in water if you are propagating? Like is it another 2-3 weeks after it's started to grow roots orrrr?
I may be receiving a cutting of adanosii within the next few days, but i'm pretty sure it will probably be a small cutting, maybe just one leaf. Any tips on making sure this one lil baby succeeds? As i know usually people get quite a few cuttings, as some will not make it.
I'd say pop it in water and put it in a warm bright location (ideally without direct sun light). Change the water 1-2 times a week and pot up when the roots are an inch (2.5cm) long. The one in this video was grown from a single cutting to, so it is possible! Best of luck!
Quick question; I broke my plant where the stem meets the leaf.. It is not completely broken but it is barely hanging on to the stem. Is that leaf a goner or can I save it?
I just bought one the other day. It’s a clipping from someone else’s plant and it came in a nursery pot propagating in soil (not much root growth yet). 1) i did transfer it to a pot when I got it home and it’s looking a little wimpy now so I guess maybe I shouldn’t have done that? 2) how fast do these typically grow?
Hmm I haven't propagated this in soil before, only in water. The roots did take a little while to grow big enough to pot up though. It's probably a bit stressed from the repot so I would think it'll perk up again. Once they're properly rooted they grow quite quickly!
This was super helpful. I had an Adansonii that which I got from a friend who wasn't getting on with it. It's been doing great with me and is about 5ft tall. However, when it puts out new leaves they take a long time to unfurl, and often have black spots inside them. Is this an indication of something bad?
Oh my goodness! I'm jealous of your massive adansonii!! Taking a while to unfurl is probably fine. I'd be more worried about the spots but I'm not sure what that means! So sorry I hope it gets better soon!
My monstera produced a new leaf but it’s taking ages to unfurl... should I be worried? Help! It’s not the first leaf it’s grown since I got it but it does seem to be the biggest
I have just moved my plant to a new spot with more light that it was getting (used to be by a north facing window, is now by a south, but far enough away to keep it indirect) but it has started growing its vines with skipped leaves- any idea why or how to fix this?
Hmm.. did you move it since noticing the skipping or before? From my experience, skipping is usually because theres not enough light, or the plant is stressed in some way, could be from a move. I wouldn't worry too much about it because once it gets happy again, it should stop skipping. You can always cut off before the skipped node and propagate to put back into the top of the plant to make it fuller?
That depends on the conditions you've got it in. Warmer brighter (still no direct sun) places will encourage the roots to grow faster. I think in the end I had this cutting in water for a month or 2?
I suppose you could. But be very careful putting it directly into any planter that doesn't have any drainage holes. You don't want to get root rot because it's got too much water down there!

@@charleshaas5350 ooh that's no good. Have you had a look at the roots? I wouldn't fertilise right now as its a risk of burning with what sounds like fragile roots. The dowel was likely to keep it still in the box not flopping around.
So the node is the little knobbly bit at the base of where the leaf connects to the stem/vine thing/ There are usually some little mini aerial roots that look like they will grow. Cut about 2 cm below one of those are you'll be good to go! :)
@@GoodGrowing No. They like their roots tight in a pot, and bigger pots don't dry out quickly, resulting in root rot. They are an epiphyte, so additional soil medium in a larger pot is BAD.

I have a question, how long do you normally leave it in water if you are propagating? Like is it another 2-3 weeks after it's started to grow roots orrrr?
It really depends on the plant and the cutting. I try to leave it until the roots look proportional

I may be receiving a cutting of adanosii within the next few days, but i'm pretty sure it will probably be a small cutting, maybe just one leaf. Any tips on making sure this one lil baby succeeds? As i know usually people get quite a few cuttings, as some will not make it.
I'd say pop it in water and put it in a warm bright location (ideally without direct sun light). Change the water 1-2 times a week and pot up when the roots are an inch (2.5cm) long. The one in this video was grown from a single cutting to, so it is possible! Best of luck!

Quick question; I broke my plant where the stem meets the leaf.. It is not completely broken but it is barely hanging on to the stem. Is that leaf a goner or can I save it?

I just bought one the other day. It’s a clipping from someone else’s plant and it came in a nursery pot propagating in soil (not much root growth yet). 1) i did transfer it to a pot when I got it home and it’s looking a little wimpy now so I guess maybe I shouldn’t have done that? 2) how fast do these typically grow?
Hmm I haven't propagated this in soil before, only in water. The roots did take a little while to grow big enough to pot up though. It's probably a bit stressed from the repot so I would think it'll perk up again. Once they're properly rooted they grow quite quickly!

This was super helpful. I had an Adansonii that which I got from a friend who wasn't getting on with it. It's been doing great with me and is about 5ft tall. However, when it puts out new leaves they take a long time to unfurl, and often have black spots inside them. Is this an indication of something bad?
Oh my goodness! I'm jealous of your massive adansonii!! Taking a while to unfurl is probably fine. I'd be more worried about the spots but I'm not sure what that means! So sorry I hope it gets better soon!

How long should the roots be before you pot them? I have some water propagating there are lots of roots but most are almost an inch long.
I let my roots get to be about 1/3 the length of the whole so they are about proportional, probably about 2-3 inches or so! Best of luck

Hi Helen, I think yellow holes come from droplets that stayed for a while on the leaves. That is the case for Calatheas. You can compare tho.

I have just moved my plant to a new spot with more light that it was getting (used to be by a north facing window, is now by a south, but far enough away to keep it indirect) but it has started growing its vines with skipped leaves- any idea why or how to fix this?
Hmm.. did you move it since noticing the skipping or before? From my experience, skipping is usually because theres not enough light, or the plant is stressed in some way, could be from a move. I wouldn't worry too much about it because once it gets happy again, it should stop skipping. You can always cut off before the skipped node and propagate to put back into the top of the plant to make it fuller?

It doesn't need a moss pole. You could have it trail downwards. But if you want it to grow bigger leaves, it's good to give it something to climb :)

that sounds like a fairly dark corner tbh. it could work if you got a grow light for it

That depends on the conditions you've got it in. Warmer brighter (still no direct sun) places will encourage the roots to grow faster. I think in the end I had this cutting in water for a month or 2?

Depending on your location in the world, yes they can grow outside. But it would require quite a warm humid climate

I suppose you could. But be very careful putting it directly into any planter that doesn't have any drainage holes. You don't want to get root rot because it's got too much water down there!

@@charleshaas5350 ooh that's no good. Have you had a look at the roots? I wouldn't fertilise right now as its a risk of burning with what sounds like fragile roots. The dowel was likely to keep it still in the box not flopping around.

So the node is the little knobbly bit at the base of where the leaf connects to the stem/vine thing/ There are usually some little mini aerial roots that look like they will grow. Cut about 2 cm below one of those are you'll be good to go! :)

@@GoodGrowing No. They like their roots tight in a pot, and bigger pots don't dry out quickly, resulting in root rot. They are an epiphyte, so additional soil medium in a larger pot is BAD.
