Monstera Adansonii is such a popular houseplant, and while it's fairly easy to care for, can be slightly temperamental if you don't keep it in it's optimum conditions. It's fantastic beginner plant, and super easy to propagate and super fast growing 💚

I bought two Monstera Adansonii from a local small grocer who had them outside. The guy running the shop said I could have them at a reduced price because they were in pretty bad condition. I took them home and within a day they looked even worse. I potted them up and ended up chopping all the leaves off, I wasn't holding out hope. Now after many months of nursing them back to health they are thriving. I love this plant. Thank you Claire for making this video. 🌱 💚

Mine was growing like crazy on the floor underneath all my other plants so I treated her to a new pot and put her by the window, turns out she must be shy as I lost 5 leafs I think due to the cold so I put her back where she was

This is most certainly my most abused plant lol. I've gone long periods without watering it, don't mist it anymore, but since it has lasted the longest with me (2yrs+) it's now my favourite and I'm particularly careful with it now lol

I was in B&Q buying some flooring, as you do. Staff were ready to throw out a bunch of very sick and dead plants. I stopped then and bought 2 for 50p each. Took a month of tlc but they're both doing fairly well with good new growth. Looking to hand one and miss pole another
Just found one at Target and brought it home, looks a little sad but re potting this weekend and hoping it pulls through, thank you for the video

I bought a lovely adansonii and after months if taking care of it it had grown beautiful and wild. I was sooo happy!
Then a couple of weeks ago I noticed some of my plants had some sort of virus or fungus or something and the adansonii was one if them. I cut most of its leaves and now I'm left with a bunch of long, scraggly vines with only a couple of leaves here and there. I'm about to cut them all off to try to propagate some in water and repot the ones with roots and I'm a bit scared of killing it. I know they're not that expensive and I can always buy another one, but I'm a bit attached to my babies and don't like to see them die. Hopefully I can save her and the others. 😰🤞🏼

Awesome video. I’m so excited, I bought a Swiss Cheese Vine yesterday. His name is Cheeseball. He is a hanging vine, but my cats seem to want to attack him. So, I want to prune him back a little, but still let him trail, where the cats can’t reach him. I also have a shopping cart started with miss poles and a humidifier and Happy Frog Potting soil that has bark and perlite mixed in already.
Aww yay for you and Cheeseball 😂💚 Prune him back and propagate some cuttings - you'll have lots of mini Cheeseballs in no time!

Great video thanks for the tips have you ever tried growing fully in water particularly in an aquarium
No worries at all! I've grown them in water for a few months, but after that have needed to add some sort of hydro fertiliser as they don't receive any nutrients otherwise. I've never actually tried them in an aquarium. My only thought would be are they toxic to the fish...? Not sure about that one 💚 x

When propagating cuttings, do you put them in similar lighting conditions as a grown plant or slightly more light, like under a growth light?
Mine alot of leaves growing as well.
When can/ should I Repot? When roots come out the bottom, or is it fussy about the time of year with that?

Hiya - sorry for the late response! As soon as your plant starts to "branch out" and produce new leaves from the existing cuttings, you can go ahead and add in something for it to climb up to help support the growth 💚

It really depends on where about you live. So long as it doesn't receive too much direct harsh sunlight (gentle morning and evening sun is ok) it should be fine, but just monitor it and consider moving your plant back a bit if it doesn't seem happy x
I have one that I never attached to a moss pole. It’s starting to take off buts it a little leggy too. Is there ever a point that it’s too late to attatch it to a pole?
I just bought a baby one - smaller than your small one -and it’s looking a bit ropey😢. I’m hoping now that I can liven it up a bit. One thing, do the leaves never get shiny like it’s bigger cousins? Thank you
I do a lot of spray bottle watering, especially with the strings.
The vines/nodes will definitely appreciate that - just make sure you deeply water the soil and don't just rely on spraying it as otherwise the whole root system won't be targeted and this can cause issues x

I have new growth with brown spots and 1 yellow leaf on my lil cheese but it was reported recently
Repotting occasionally sends plants into a bit of a "shock" state. Keep an eye on it, but fingers crossed it'll stabilise once it adjusts to it's new environment ☺️🌱
can the cuttings grow and stay in water if i add fertilizer?
i have two monkey masks given to me from cuttings and both are just a single thread or vine, have got reaaally long recently, is there anything i can do to make it bushier?

I’ve had one of these for awhile now. It is one vine about 5 ft long. My 1st Swiss cheese plant. I finally took 3-4 cuttings off. Rooting in water. The leaves on mine are about the size of a 25 cent piece, or 50 cent piece! All of a sudden…..The leaves turning yellow! So, I moved her under the grow lamp, in a west window.
How do you have such massive leaves, on yours?

Hello Claire, thank you so much for your video, it was very helpful to me! I've bought a Monstera adansonii about a week ago and, not having a green thumb, I'm pretty much consuming every bit of information I can find about this species and how to take good care of it. I'd like to ask you a question: my plant is quite dense/bushy in the sense that there are a lot of leaves growing in the "middle" of the plant (i.e. under other taller and more developed leaves/petioles) and probably not getting too much light, since my house isn't very sunny. Is this problematic? Should I do anything about it or does she know what she is doing? 😅 If you'd like, I can link a picture so you can understand better what I'm trying to explain

Chances are it'll probably start to fill out more as time goes on and it starts to grow, but if you're worried about lighting I'd maybe suggest getting a grow light 💚
I had a few cuttings from a friend. It kinda grew into a plant. But still loses fenestrations every 2 leaves. Idk why. I cut them now and gave the plant a bigger pot. And a bright spot. Might help. But If anyone has any suggestions, leave them pls.
This has helped me a lot, the only thing is my plant has three or four brown tips and I can't figure out what the cause is. She's in a east window, but we have a porch so its not direct. I had the grand idea of buying plant lights but now i can't tell if I've just burned her leaves instead😭
No worries at all! Is the window she's in cold? They can be quite sensitive to cold temperatures/draughts... Also, what sort of grow lights did you go for? Usually if they scorch the leaves it doesn't just affect the tips

I just bought a monstera adansonii from a local person it's in a 4inch nursery pot. I was wondering how long I should wait to put it into a larger pot?
If you carefully lift it out of the nursery pot and take a look at the roots you can usually tell if it's outgrowing the pot. If the roots are very compact and pushed together then it's time to repot x
I received a tiny little node with a hand sized leaf- water propagation for about 4 weeks now, have a root coming out- but the leaf is pale green yellow and brown. Help. I love this lil Bebe…
Firstly, these plants can sometimes react quite badly to changes in environment, so it could just be that it's adjusting to life in your home. Also, when you take a cutting you're essentially cutting off it's supply of nutrients until the new root's been able to form, so it could just be suffering slightly because of this. If I were you I'd allow a decent root system to form and then pot it up in a really nutritious, well draining soil - fingers crossed after that it'll give you some lovely healthy growth 💚
I don’t know if you have a mini monstera or not, but if you do could you make a care guid for it? It’s other name is rhaphidora tetrasperma
I do - it's one of my favourite plants! I actually filmed a care video for it recently but haven't got around to editing it yet, so I'll try and get it up later this week 💚

It definitely helps yes, I always use that time to also give them a thorough check over as sometimes things can be lurking without being super obvious 💚

Sounds like it might be time for a repot - lift your plant out and see how rootbound it is 💚
Hey, could anyone please tell me how to get rid of flies(not sure what they are, jumpy tiny creatures) in my monsters monkey’s compost?;( I’ve got a mealybug infestation and now this as well. Leaves look like they’ve got fungus(dark brown bits)

Is a north facing window good?
North windows can be too much light for this plant (at least where I live)
It depends where about you live, but here in the UK where I am I've got one of mine on a north facing window and she's doing great x
Does anyone have similar problem to me? Not every leaf, but last 3 just before they open they are partially brown already… so sad….
That's commonly caused by a watering imbalance or lack of humidity. It can be down to other things too, but in my experience those have been the main causes 💚
Your plant is bushy. Mine one is leggy. Another cutting is doing great in soil.

It's funny to hear you say it is one of the most easiest plants to take care of, while this for me is the one that I seem to not keep alive 🙈
When I water it, a few days later it shows me yellow leaves. So then I think "overwatering", but a longer wait inbetween gives me said curly leaves and soil that is completely dried out. I never give lots of water, but each time I do give a bit of water, it shows me yellow leaves.
Is the soil too dry maybe? I'm now trying to keep my 4th Money Mask alive, but half is already gone... very said
I am sorry that you are experiencing that with your Adansonii. They generally are laid back plants. Not to evoke fear, but have you checked for pests? Perhaps your particular plant would prefer not to experience the highs and lows of damp/dry soil? Maybe it just has bad genes! 🤣
I planted my Monstera from a leaf cutting, but I think I left it in the water for too long. It lead to having pretty long roots coming from the single leaf by the time I went to plant it in soil.
It has been in soil for about 7 months now, but I only have 4 small leaves. What am I doing wrong?
If you only planted one cutting, it's never going to turn into a full plant, rather just one long vine. I'll usually take multiple cuttings and plant them into the same pot to create a fuller plant. Make sure the conditions you've got it in are good, consider increasing the humidity and make sure it's farily warm as well as light as this tends to help speed things up!
