Very useful, even in late 2022. I've had this thing in storage and just dug it out to use it. Couldn't remember a thing about it, so you helped a lot! I just hope the batteries still hold a charge.
This is so helpful, even 9 years after this video was posted! My dad's co-worked gave him an old go-pro hero 3, and this video helped me set it up! Thank you so much!
Bought the camera in 2014 to use with my quad copter. Stopped using the quad and the camera has sat since. Wanted to use it to video the fish in my pond in 2020 but could not remember the details on operating it. Could not find any info on the GoPro site so came here to TH-cam. This video refreshed my memory enough to get me going again. Thanks!
Just found the Hero 3 I bought for my son some years ago that he never used... it's mine now! Your video was very helpful. Got my battery charging now and going to watch your video on updating the firmware. Hope I can still do it with the Hero 3 being somewhat old now. Thanks so much!
Well here we are 7 yrs down the road from our last holiday i couldnt remember how to work the bloody thing lol. great video , and it got me started ..... Again lol. thanks for this, will need to see if i can do a firmware update. well done and thanks again .

I just inherited a Hero 3 a couple of days ago. I was handed a box of parts and a camera that was missing doors and flaps. Previous owner is willfully tech illiterate and I think he gave it to me because he thought it was broken. Ordered new parts batt and remote charging cable plus assorted etc. Looking forward to getting cam back up to its full potential. Also wanted to say your videos are clear and consise so far and answered all the basics. Special shout out for pointing out the wifi button! Had my hands all over this thing cleaning it, and never saw it!
Such a good tutorial. I had to stop and start several times as I couldn't quite keep up. I now actually can use this thing. Off to Iceland I go with GoPro confidence. Thx tons.
I recently purchased my first gopro, a used Hero 3+ Black. I haven't received it in the post yet but I already know how to use it thanks to your videos! Thanks so much. Liked and Subscribed!
Very helpful video. I am challenged (!) when it comes to learning new technology and this video made it painless. I look forward to the next series of videos. Thank you!
The replaceable battery is so useful. If you ever plan on getting a GoPro, save up for 3+. Running out of battery on your GoPro when you're in the middle of the action sucks real hard. GoPro's that don't have a replaceable battery are not that reliable.
I bought the go pro 3+ in 2015 in Amsterdam Airport put it in a cupboard and left it unopened until May 2023, so a great video for learning the easy bits to start without reading the literature which can be a bit confusing Well Done
Loved the video, I got a issue with my hero3+ silver, I record normall, but when I go to the archive, there is no way I can view what I've recorded, its like corrupted :(

I have my new Hero3plus connected to my computer , no LED lights are on and I cannot access any of the various modes by repeatedly pressing the power button. The screen simply stays on the video mode and the moving charging bars at the bottom . What is the problem?

Excellent video + very informative. I purchased a Go Pro Hero 3 white a few months ago. I download the Go Pro App to my Samsung Galaxie 4. I followed the instructions, placed both devices very close together, the phone app started to search for device, however the app keeps telling me "cannot connect, no devise found. What's the problem? I read some reviews from people with the Go Pro app, the ratings are very poor to say the least, must if not all say that the APP is not good, the APP is free tough. for the plastic hinge on the housing, I replace them same way as you are after 4change the right hinge cracked and broke, not sure if it's just bad luck or it's the way it is.
Extremely helpful. I am something of a technophobe, but your YT links immediately went into my Favorites folder. Thank you!! Any insight on my battery draining overnight after having been fully charged the evening before? The camera is off. The WiFi is off. But the battery (and I bought a second, same thing happened) drains so completely the camera won't even come on. Thanks again!
iftibashir Thanks. I'm pretty sure it's off. I hit the button and it came on, hit it again, and it flashed seven times and then stopped flashing. I checked on the little screen and after scrolling through the options, it showed the WiFi image with the word "OFF" beneath it. I also have the camera set to power off after a minute of non-use, which it did. I'm now fully depleting the battery and then recharging it and repeating that process several times per GoPro web tips to ensure it holds a full charge. We'll see. Thanks again! Any more bright ideas, I'm all ears. :)

I paired the camera with the W-fi remote but when I press the W-fi power button the camera does’t come on. However, the W-fi remote and camera do communicate after I manually turned on the camera W-fi.
It would have been nice if it came with the instructions it said in the ad also with their warranty I took out an entry year warranty on it just to make sure as I received it today now I will test it out
Nice video, really did help me! I have a question though, i just bought a hero 3+ black, and i have been wondering if i should use the open or closed backlit. In the video, you mention "anywhere near water, use the closed one" well in my world snow = liquid therefore also water, and should i then just use the closed one? or would the open one do fine? Considering that it's going to be shot in a cold temp, i'm assuming camera heat wouldn't be such a bad thing? or would it? hope you can answer this, and help me out! ;) Thx in advance! Great video man! Subbed and liked it!
Do you mean the back door? Depends where you will be using the camera - any risk of water/splashes, then use the closed back door. Otherwise use the open back door.
pretty usefull ! Thanks :) but i got a question on which mode should i record for Parcour/freerunning or taking pictures ? 1080p/60fps or 1440? or what is better
1440 is the same width as 1080 - by recording in 1440 you have extra screen estate at the top and bottom of the image - allowing you to move the clip up or down in a 1080p display size to get the best angle. When it comes to frame rate - lower is better if light is an issue. Higher frame rates will give less jello, and are also better for slow motion shots when editing.
I'm getting it to use for an upcoming concert I'm going to but after that I'm planning on using it when I go snowboarding and dirt bike riding. Do you think I will need the battery bacpack?
How long will your video clips be? If you want a constant long recording, then the battery bacpac is perfect as you'll have no break in the video. If you are looking to take smaller clips and don't mind the break in video, then you could get 2 or 3 spare GoPro batteries for the same price as the bacpac.....

Zo Suryanto Depends on which resolution you manly record in. I like to stick to 32GB since if something happens to the card you don't lose as much data! Also, the camera seems to format 64GB cards as exFAT, and there have been reports of a lot of file corruptions when people use 64GB cards due to the file system. Im not saying its a widespread issue, but corruptions are most common when using a 64GB card for some reason. Recording at 1080p you'll get 3.5 hours of recording time. At 2.k7 30fps its around 1.5 hours......
iftibashir I see. So if i'm going to get 64GB, it's better to get two 32GB instead of one 64GB (to anticipate if something happens to the card)? One of the reason i'm keep thinking of is, what if i'm goin out for several days without any laptop. I cant transfer the data to free the space for another day's shooting. Or got a few spare batteries to use. So i dont have to worry about the card being full. What do you think? Btw, i'm new to GoPro cameras and decided to get one soon. In the mean time, i'm filling myself with any info bout the camera so i can know well bout it. And i must said, your reviews & tips videos about GoPro reaaally great! Zo Suryanto Depends on which resolution you manly record in. I like to stick to 32GB since if something happens to the card you don't lose as much data! iftibashir I see. Would you recommend a battery pack or do you feel that the battery life on the camera I decent? I'm about to purchase a gopro and I was wondering.
