It a big step for the Munich brand and it marks its entry to the cruiser world, dominated by Harley-Davidson. The biggest boxer engine ever produced by BMW - 1,800 cc, an all-new frame inspired by the R5, and a new attitude. This is not the R1200C. This is the real deal.

Monopoly over a segment is the biggest barrier for development of company products because there is no need to evolve. This can make the market more active now that there are more players in the game
I cannot say enough good things about my R18 , it’s a beautiful amazing piece of machinery and a total joy to ride
Personally i really like the look of it even though im not a cruiser rider but the leg tuck will be a tough sell to cruiser guys

This thing with the bobber kit, the machined parts and the bmw sanctioned vance and hines exhaust is just the coolest and most tasteful cruiser in my mind. Although a 27.000€ cruiser, at that point but that‘s still better value than an HD 😅
Kick ass bike. love the solo/bobber seat, hardtail look, simple design. less is more. The look tells me
complicated is easy, and easy is complicated. low center of weight is what bmw always had with cylinder configuration. not crazy about the shaft, belts are really the way to go. any color you want as long as its black is also genius! I have a softail slim 103 and really like this machine...sorry to see it take so long for Germany to jump in. swingarm frame is just sick! Really nice bike boys. You can't make war machines anymore, but my 3rd bmw 3 series still attests to incredible engineering. cant wait to see the 110.
front fork rake looks perfect and classy headlight with forks look killer
Gorgeous machine, BUT you can't stretch legs out, the limitation of the boxer design. I don't think Harley has anything to worry about (and I have a GSA and HD Road King).

There’s going to be a lot of bikes sitting in show rooms for a few years now I’d say. Love the aesthetics and design but it’s out of my affordability especially when you could buy an Indian Challenger Bagger for less
thats true but then you would be the owner of an Indian and not a totally new BMW. The Indian you will get tired of and trade it off in 5 years, this bike is the one you keep....forever!
j Hard to say without seeing it in the flesh and riding it. Bikes are subjective, personally like I said it’s really nice to look at but one thing for sure is you’ll never be BAD TO THE BONE on a BMW 😝
@@guthrie1960 The only reason this ridiculous contraption would be kept forever is that the depreciation would be so high that within a year of ownership it would become a worthless piece of scrap that no one would want to buy. @@pggp273 Maybe? Because I am not getting one now, must wait until all the bugs are ironed out. And I don't like the way they cleaned up the intake, I liked the sidedraft carb on the original one. So you could be right lets wait and see.

Better than Harley? Probably, but Harley rider doesn't give a crap for BMW. I think this bike looks great. But that doesn't mean I'm going to run out and buy one.
Cool looking bike but I feel the look is a mix between a Softail slim and a street bob.

This thing starts at 19,000 British pounds! It’s a beautiful bike, but it’s simply way too much money. These things will not sell for that price in a post Covid 19 global economy.
Triumph Rocket 3 has killed all these bikes anyway. If one must have a Harley buy a Harley, for everyone else who wanted a super cool 20 grand power cruiser Triumph went and smashed the opposition. Really can't see more than a handful of people buying this thing.
Nice to look at ot,but is going to be a pain to ride, that low seat and foot peg configuration is going to be good for 5 minutes of riding. I bet all the riders in the promo are going to be 5'3 tall!

@@Odessa45 did you look at my picture? Been riding for 40 years,and I own a 2019 bmw f850 gsa. Yes,a pain to ride with that short distance between the seat and the footpeegs. I'm entitled to my opinion like you, mister internet officer
I agree. I reckon my knees would last about 30 minutes. And in the summer, the heat from those cylinders would be unbearable, especially as there's no way to put your feet anywhere else to get out of it.

Very innovating to release a design HD created years ago. Why would I want a HD copy from BMW? I like BMW for what they are. Just me... maybe Im crazy.

I would be tempted to keep the look of those fishtails, but they would have to be shortened so that they BELLOW. I w ant car drivers to hear me approaching so they don't drive over me.

The bike is beautiful. But it is not a long range tourer. I played with BMW's configurator, for all the useful stuff for serious cruising/touring you will need all expensive packages, the price jumps to some $22.5k before tax and it still isn't enough. No replacement for the K1600gtl or K1200lt. I'd still buy this one rather than a HD (which I'd never buy anyway). Btw: you can configure a set of pipes that are straight and badass.

110 ft lbs of torque! If this bike has an overdrive, I'd buy one. No motorcycles today (despite all this torque and power) don't have an overdrive transmission? The Triumph Rocket III doesn't have an overdrive! Gasp?

A BMW with Ape- Hangers? Mien Gott! Shaft drive and those two mega pots to boot plus lashings of Chrome and black. Very customisable.
I am not a fan of Harley-Davidson. But after the debut of R18, I think it makes me become a Harley fan.

Overall it looks pretty good but the exhaust (mufflers) looks like a pregnant guppy. If I heard it right $17,500 base price would not be too bad but putting an aftermarket exhaust would likely add substantially to that. I'll need to ride one but on looks alone I give it a 8.

Can you sort out the differences between the R18 Standard, R18 First Edition, R18/2, and something called the R18 Classic??? Or are these the same machine with options?
Honestly, I cannot do that right now. I think it's just the basic with some extras. The naming also depends on the market. But as far as I know for now, it's the same thing, only coming with different stuff.
I´ve read that the Standard edition will be introduced later in some markets (not in Europe) and should be even more simple (cheaper?)..

Harley's cuisers are cheaper, lighter, and their 114 makes more power. You can get a lowrider, get a bigbore kit installed and slap this bike, and still have thousands left over.

BMW has one of the worst relaiblity ratings in the industry.
Price wise, This BMW is 18900Brit pounds, the lowrider S is 15545 Brit pounds.
The Lowrider S is faster, lighter, more powerful, and cheaper by a lot.
And a Road Glide Ultra IS NOT AN M8 SOFTAIL.
Softails are a completely different frame and the M8 in the Softail is a different version. the RGU has a hybrid oil liquid cooler version. But the M8 Softail is hybrid oil air with a dual counterbalancer and a cable clutch system.
Comparing a touring bike to a BMW heavy cruiser is dumb.
The M8 Softails are way lighter, cheaper, and faster than this new BMW.

Check NLbobbers for a way cheaper much cooler looking bike. I believe price is prohibitive.

Gorgeous but the rider’s leg position is horrible and cramped - catastrophic fail - major disappointment.
So your average leg position you like is to have them straight ,like in bed or like standing still, how do you sit in a normal chair ? Looking like a bag of patatoes ?
