    I was taught that it’s better to unscrew the light switch slightly and emulsion under it (just 1/4” or so) rather than paint around it. Yes, takes 30 seconds longer but produces a much better finish.

      I don't think it matters to a professional painter. A good painter will be able to cut in around a fixed switch and it'll look the same as when it'd unscrewed. ✌🏼👍🏻
      And Caulk!

      @@dh7493 yeah but it matters if you do change the switch at a later date...whole wall has to be repainted to blend if you dont paint behind it..and yes people do upgrade sockets for a modern finish 😉

      it's up to you, if you remove it you won't have brush marks and it will be flawless, if you cut you will have brush marks and it could glue the cover to the wall

    Oh my goodness. I am returning 2 rolls of tape tomorrow. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I cut in over 150 feet in two rooms, including a darker accent wall using this method. Looked like a pro had done it.

    Back in the mid 80s I went to tech for my painting and decorating curse every Tuesday and Thursday I remember doing this to learn how to do straight lines. I think about 1986

      He does remind me of the typical tech college teacher. I did welding for one year and the teacher a Welsh guy would actually push your head (with mask on) closer to the weld. "Get in there!"

    Another great tutorial Aubs! What do you use for getting those really sharp corners? I tend to use a flat lining fitch but would be open to other suggestions. 😘

    Two screws to undo on light switch then you can paint underneath the plate screw back when dry and why wipe paint off the brush and mess up kettle when you can just load brush pat each side on inside of kettle then paint

    When I finish painting and cleaned the brush I wrap it tightly in some paper and then the bristles keep straight and don’t splay out when you next use it.

      elastic band half inch from the brush head, keeps it as good as new, then wrap it up

      I would suggest using decorators caulk for this. I have not yet done a video on this but will do in the future.

    Far better to partially unscrew the light switch or socket and paint behind it. Screw it back when paint is dry. Much neater job that way.

    Hi.Before painting can i use dawn dish soap and water to clean the walls? If not what can i use to clean before painting? Thanks

      Yes, a dash of dish soap in warm water will be fine. If there are any really greasy or dirty areas then you could try sugar soap which is available in DIY and hardware stores.

      Hi Jackie, sorry but I don't have a separate video on cutting in along the ceiling line. The method is the same as I show here when painting along the horizontal lines. I hope all goes well with the decorating 😊

    Put an elastic band half way down the brush, straight line is then easy peasy, tricky jobs always use a good quality masking tape

    As he says, buy a quality brush. Take your time, don't rush and, like anything, the more you do it, the better you get.

      Hi, I am using a Purdy brush. They are very popular with professional painters and decorators. The are worth paying the extra.

      Yes I do but I know many people prefer the angled brushes. For people new to decorating it may be a good idea to try both to see which one is preferable.

      I remember the first brushes I bought back in the 70`s when I was at college, 2 shiny new Hamilton Perfections. I have stuck with the Hamiltons for oil based and like many, have tried other types along the way. Some types of the fat hogs are mixed filament and not pure bristle. Looking at decorators forums the reviews are ok but most are sticking with their preferred brushes.

      @@tonygreen7843 Bearing in mind he's talking as he does the job so not giving it his full attention, it seems a pretty good effort - and he could always go back and refine it. I doubt you can walk and chew gum at the same time.
