But I got a 2nd job, as well as a side hustle (I give plasma for extra money), and I currently rent a room in a friend's house. I have persevered, and God carried me through the storm. I'm coming out stronger than I ever imagined.

Hi Dominique, here is your critical Dutch viewer again, this time with two thumbs up! 🙂 Great (and necessary!) advice. Thank you. May I add some extra tips? 1) Replace all your old light bulbs for LED bulbs. 2) At a thrift store buy an old petroleum stove. Instead of petrol you can use lamp oil. That way you will save a lot of gas. 3) Save all your vegetable leftovers to make a healthy soup 4) take shorter showers 5) stop having all your appliences on standby. 6) buy whole vegatables, instead of pre-cut 7) make a shoppinglist and stick to it 8) go to the market at the end of the day, you will get discount 9) soda's are expensive and unhealthy, try water and save hundreds of dollars a year 10) unfortunately we don't have this in The Netherlands: coupon clipping. It's is worth the effort. Sorry for my possible mistakes in English.

Due to excessive inflation: I have cut home services such as pest control; now I do it {saving $75 qtrly}. I dropped cable, now using Fubo {savings $60 monthly}. I buy some generic store brand food items (which I never did before) and ONLY buy staple items when on SALE. Negotiated a cheaper internet bill {savings $45 monthly}. Switched bi-monthly house cleaning service to once a month (saving $95 monthly). I switched dog food and treats to cheaper brands. Stopped monthly vet billing; switched to “as needed,” ie, only pay when I take the dogs {monthly savings of $110}. Adjusted thermostats in the house to reduce electric bill. Reduced random purchases at grocery store (I always made a list, but now, if it’s not on the list, I dont buy it). I make lunch for my husband instead of him buy out (saving at least $40 weekly.). I am still looking for ways to cut cost.

Hi Dominique, I´m from Argentina and we are used to living with inflation. In August we had 8% in a month, that's what you have in a year!!! So imagine how hard life has been here and it's been the same since I was born (I'm 54). Your tips are great, specially the one about the budget and to cut down on membreships too. I have 3 jobs but sometimes it´s so hard. One of my sons has just left the country, and the other 4 are planning to leave too. They have just graduated from university. Living here is a nightmare. Great tips! Becoming a minimalist nowadays is a must. Try selling extra furniture you don’t need, sometimes or before the pandemic we bought stuff because it was on sale or we liked it, but in reality, we didn’t “need it”, now our homes is full of stuff, it’s cluttered, it’s time to declutter and live a simpler life. Thanks Dominique for your videos!

    • @radicalaccounting
      @radicalaccounting ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, I agree. People live with such clutter and when I suggest they can sell it, they have all these reasons why they cant. I sell things all the time, whatever I don't need that's worth $30 or more. Below that I prefer to donate. It was hard learning to sell but now that I have the formula down it's nothing. And good boundaries. Never let people cover over at night. Do it on the porch if possible. I make a few thousand every year selling things I don't need any longer and lately storing stuff because of inflalation but I look forward to when that is over, so I can just have more space.

I really like these, and for the younger ladies out there I would add “don’t ever financially depend on a significant other”.
I learned this lesson when I was quite young and my father (the sole breadwinner who had not bought life insurance) was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer at 43 years old. The stress of how my mother, who has no job skills or particular education, would support us financially if he died was awful (which thankfully he didn’t until 25 years later).
No matter how wonderful a spouse might be, tomorrow is guaranteed to no one and it’s crucially important to be able to support oneself.

I love getting manis and pedis but actually like doing them myself, so I’ll save $1,200 per year. Just did an audit and my husband and I spent $250 eating out 3x last month. Reducing that to once a month. I annualize everything so using $250 as an example, $3,000 in restaurant spend is unwise, particularly when we’ve got healthier options at home anyway. Another strategy is walking dates with girlfriends whereas my girls dates were otherwise travel, shopping and fancy dining. I still enjoy those things but the desire isn’t there, I can’t be smarter with my money and still enjoy girlfriend time. Sometimes we will enjoy smoothies, tea or a few apps after a walk. Much less than full meals, plane tickets and trips to Nordstrom.

Yes, I'm not sure when mani, pedis became a thing, and constantly eating out. Growing up eating out was for an occasion or celebration. Consumerism has literally consumed people.

I wonder how many of us changed our eating out habits thanks to Covid. i never liked cooking, but now I picka recipe to learn every season. By the 2nd or 3rd time I share it with a friend. This winter it's going to be borscht. Not sure I even know how to spell it. Whereas before it was always meeting up at a restaurant I find people are willng to come over to eat at my place. The other thing is one reason we like resturants is because they don't care about our health so I've learned to ease up on how strict I usually am for socializing.

Try outdoors as much as you can. Bring your own food instead of going to restaurants. My family always bring food in a backpack as well as our water bottle. If you can, buy bulk and make your own bread and baked goods. It takes organization and discipline but you can cut the costs and make sure your family has healthy food.

I only buy the clothes I need and donating or consigning items I don't use anymore. Modeling these ideals for your children helps them see the beauty of helping those in need through donation. Also, it helps us all grow to being our best selves by refreshing our closets with what makes us feel better with no guilt of excessive buying. Thank you Dominique! Great tips. We cut our cable from our internet bill over a year ago and just went with a couple of streaming services. It cut our bill by over half. If we see a show on a streaming service we don't have, we may take a free trial to watch it, or just get it for a month if we've already used the free trial then cancel once we're done watching. We got rid of our dishwasher (there's just 2 of us and we only eat one meal at home) and do our laundry in cold water. We don't carry a balance on our credit cards and plan on driving our current cars into the ground then buying used, not new. We've been doing things this way for years and we've managed to stay debt free. We have become really strict about determining need vs want.

I think it’s very important to mention that electric cars are looking like they are not at all a money saver. Just changing the battery if it’s bad costs around $29,000. And charging it causes your electric bill to skyrocket like crazy. And the price for the electric cars themselves start out at 50 to $60,000. People are learning all of this now and many people are sadly regretting it. Totally cool if you find that you love it and it works for you, but I think it’s crucial to mention some downsides for those it may be more of a problem for.

    Dominique❤️❤️❤️
I just came across your videos 1 week ago and have been watching as many as I can since.
What can I say?....there is so much.... but words never do justice.
Firstly thank you thank you thank you-from my heart. May God continue to bless you endlessly.
You are just marvellous and everything I want to be! You are such an intelligent, gifted, caring, warm, articulate, beautiful, astute, empathic, smart Godly creature! God has truly blessed you and I wish more people such as yourself existed. I wish you were in life! You are a rarity.
Your videos about life, your mother, how to be happy and deal with challenges, all of it touched my soul.
I am a divorced 36 year old doctor and my soul ripped up into shreds in the last few years-and perhaps thats an understatement-- and I feel I have been hanging by a thread- still in motion waiting for the intense fire to eventually go out leaving me in some momentary relief. Watching you gave me hope comfort and light. I began to enjoy life again and see it for what it is---God will continue to challenge and test us--within the tests we realise that life and the things within it are temporary and only permanence is God and we should rely on him only.
Dominique - you in the most gentle yet most powerful way have given me hope and lifted the dark cloud. Simples things such as self care, food, exercise, gratitude, enjoying small things, beauty, reading, good conversations -- i began to appreciate and allow in my soul. I have become more patient and mindful anf enjoying just my morning coffee and car commute. I pray more . I read more. I try to be calm and breathe and dare I say I speak with more clarity.
I am not good with words. But you are an very special himan being and a great blessing for everyone who watches you. You are helping those who are alone, hopeless and fragile in ways you may not fathom-- I hope you continue to do this as it is your calling. We all pray for you and you Pray for us- keep doing Gods work.

I recently came to the conclusion that I was spending money on clothes that it wasn’t necessary. I noticed that I always gravitate towards the things that look best on me and at the same time are comfortable. The change? I got rid of all the things that for one reason or another I hardly wear and buy much less but in a piece that I truly, truly like and makes me feel happy. Try to buy it on sale though might be more expensive than something that was ok but that I hardly ever wear. A plus is that when I go to my closet, it has not a lot of stuff but every single piece I love.

I’ve always continued to live like I did when I had a budget and lived on minimum wage… and that really helps when it comes to not giving into tasty desires.
The savings came in handy 3x, whenever I was without work for an extended periods of time, and again when I was diagnosed with cancer and wasn’t able to work for two years. Only problem now is, I won’t ever be able to retire even if I live to be 100, cause SS won’t begin to cover rent.
I just about faint over the prices whenever I go into a drugstore or Sprouts. Being a Texas gal, HEB is my grocer of choice, and they have a huge selection of beauty supplies & cosmetics at unbeatable prices.
Oh, I don’t look at tv or magazines, so I’m not ever tempted…. HOWEVER… YOU did have me going out to purchase contour and foundation with your drugstore haul. Lol it worked, thank you! just in time too!
