Gosh love seeing this video reminds me of meeting my husband to be from HMS Collingwood at st Denys 1973 and going to the island in 1974 I used to lie in bed hearing the trains being shunted into siding at night in the 70s before we moved from stDenys
I went on 1497 Freshwater (slam door) 2 weekends ago on the spa valley railway!! It was how I remembered them when they were with SWT. Still got some of SWT posters up and there contact details!!
I have heard one or two murmurings that when London Underground replace the 1973 stock on the Piccadilly Line Island Line may be replacing the '38 stock with some of that!
@Inishmore95 Monday to Friday its a 2 car DMU class 158 and on Saturday & Sunday its a 4 car EMU class 450, not sure what is going to happen to the slam door trains it would be nice if they get preserved.
Great video! Two of my favourate modes of transport - train and Hovercraft. I didn't realise Class 66's came this far south - had it come from Southampton shipping terminal?
@metadyneman ...apparently thats the plan, albeit a rather shaky one. Tubelines and TfL might well defer the Picc replacement to sort out their financial issues.
