School break time in 70's i would go sometimes to library. On the shelf was a book on steam locos and details how they worked. I then realised the book was aimed at loco model builders (6 inch wheel castings gave it away). Was amazed to think people would build such. Back then many men worked in machine shops and building a live steam loco a hobby in the garden shed.
i still cant believe that this was filmed at a place that ive been to uncountable times. the great thing about this place is that you can just drive in, park, buy a ticket and get on a train. its completely open to the public. and its a great area for walking as well.
Hi I just wanted to say that I love steam engines and I happen to live on the NYMR home do Sir Nigel Gressley (but currently it’s being repaired in the NRM)
I was at Woking station yesterday and an EWS diesel hauler came past so I barely looked up....but it was pulling ‘Union of South Africa’, another A4 up towards Waterloo. It wasn’t moving quickly but still too quick for me to get my camera out, darn it.
Robert Taylor that’s only if they’ve put to much coal in and was virtually exclusivel to American loco because all USA thought of them was as a work horse so they weren’t treated correctly
I mean it guys if you ever need help there, im gonna by myself a ticket and speed to you and help you out as best as I can, thats how much of an train fan I am, from kindergarten until now
Who makes the thousands of bits that make up such a loco, everything from plating, gauges, pipes, wheels, rods? Is it all from utter scratch or is anything off the shelf?
How much do they cost to build? I quite fancy one if I could find a decent track to run it on. As a retired train driver I used to work with the men who drove the full size locos.
This is so cool one should have in backyard to make children'happy.... I♥️it stuff from gone era ...it has its oun charm and we know how far we came in development..these were the starters
I've always watched this video with excitement at the size of this locomotive, but also with puzzlement as something about it just doesn't look right. I finally figured out what was wrong about this locomotive. It's too short. It's stubby looking. It looks like it's too short in length by about 12-18".
Wow! So that’s how they keep the old girl in tip top order! They use 50 foot high giant engineers! 🥴 And did you see the size of that whopping lawn mower? why it’s as high as a house!🥴🤪
@@paddydu5113 Nothing is funny if you’re determined to be miserable and to pick fault with those who are just tying to inject a little light heartedness into today’s dark world
that's amazing that you should go to British got talent and show it that is very amazing I want to give you credit that's amazing I want you to keep that up. 🤩🤩😊
That engine is based on the A4 class, which is the same kind of locomotive Spencer is. The fastest of the steam locomotives, the Mallard, is a part of that class.
There's something so relaxing about watching videos like this.
True
My God, I think this is the ultimate model train I have ever seen.
Well it ain’t a model more like a ultimate investment.
lol didnt expect to see you here
Seeing you is a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Didn't expect to see you here.
Omg

So much work involved in getting this up and running, but what a beautiful engine!
Quite satisifying and relaxing to watch a group of enthusiasts quietly getting on doing what they do best...until @ 10:05 !!
How did you say that was so embarrassing but!!!!!✌️⭐😁
Nice to see all the tender love and care that is put into prepping these mini trains for service. :D
A lot of hard, dirty and rewarding work at the end of it.

A very well made video and engine. No music, long shots & well composed 15 minutes of pure pleasure. Thanks!
I love how the model A-4 sounds just like a full-size engine, and so do the little passenger cars as they roll by.
it is a steam engine, just a tiny one.
Man, that A4 class looks ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!!
Doesn’t it
Its realistically operated like a real steam
Would love to have seen more of it running. Hard to call it a model being so large. Truly beautiful to watch though.
Well done.
Beautiful model. Can't imagine the work that went into building it. Must have been thousands of hours.
Make that years
@@paddydu5113 Thousands of years lol
@@LukeAlfordUKsteam I was there 3000 years ago...
Thousands of hours and tens of thousands of pounds. A ready made small live steam gauge 1 will cost over £10k.
This was truly an engrossing awesome video, and I must thank TH-cam for recommending it to me from Charlie Bishop's Chadwick Model Railway channel.
Awesome video! There needs to be more of these start up videos out there!
It's great people with such great hobbies. Greetings from the Westerwald, to the Great Britain 👍
Its just amazing the Skill, Talent , Brains and passionate dedication & drive for perfection some individuals posses .

Why is there nothing like this up Newcastle area yes beamish had like couple steamy things but nothing as cool as this I need this in my life!!!!!!
Put in planning permission and become a founder of a model engineering society
Spencer: Sir Nigel.... You looks Small

Nick: Me Too

3 arelsdale engines came to mind
Such a soft exhaust, I can't tell whether this model is just a two cylinder loco or a three cylinder one.
A4's are 3 cylinders
@@gerrard1144, we know. It's the model I'm referring to !
She is 3 cylinder
She's a beauty ! Amazing locomotive
Those folk are GIANTS -I would like to know from whence they obtain giant screwdrivers and inflammable cheese though.Amazing dedication.
I would love to see an a4 built on the RHDR... They are so pretty
يبتيملىىز😇😇😇💣
Or s they were called in the old Thomas stories, "vera wee engines!"
Finest of the finest, now we need a large german 05-001 streamline scale modell :-)
we need more footage of the train rolling around the track
One thing about the British and British engineers. Always polishing, full size or scale. Beautiful.
At 3:50 mark , reminds me of my little stationary engine when I was a kid . Esbit fuel tablets 😉
Yeah I've heard that and use it in my loco . I think they like to recreate the real experience!
This is so cute I would love to ride on that lil train .I've never rode on any train but I'd love to though .
I live about a mile from Lakeside, it's a fun place to go.
I have been once and love it
Extraordinary Locomotive!
What a splendid engine!
That boy is a legend stem engine
Imagine if this little fella here met the real Sir Nigel Grestley..... It would be like Typhoon meeting the Flying Scotsman
Used to go there all the time when I was younger
Is this by any chance the lovely engine that used to run on Christchurch Quay years ago. I have a photo taken in 1956 of an identical engine .
This model reminds me of Spencer a lot.
I was hoping it was going to Belch smoke like one of those really old school locomotives
Robert Taylor that’s only if they’ve put to much coal in and was virtually exclusivel to American loco because all USA thought of them was as a work horse so they weren’t treated correctly
Belching black smoke there’s to much coal no smoke not enough thick wight and creamy plums just right
HOPE THE ENGINEER STAYS WARM WITH THE FIREBOX LOOKS LIKE A COLD DRIZZLING DAY
What a beautiful machine
Love the sound of steam engine...
Wow! Excellent.. Love from India...
I love the bit where the blowing the whistle and someone's says "its to noisy!" Then someone else Saye "Shut up"

Nice video .Enjoy it thanks
I can’t believe, that is a jewel of the crown!! This is a commercial unit or it was made by hand? Thanks
A model engineering society built it
Wow now, that engine had a nice throaty whistle/horn, compared with the usual whimpy sounding horns on British loco's.
It is very cute, it would be nice to change the boiler technology so that there is no smoke and smell.
Magnificent model. I may have missed it but what gauge is it?
I believe it's 7 inch gauge, also known as miniature gauge.
I mean it guys if you ever need help there, im gonna by myself a ticket and speed to you and help you out as best as I can, thats how much of an train fan I am, from kindergarten until now

They make the parts in the brick shed using model engineering society equipment
The LNER A4 Mallard, the engine Spencer was based off of?
Yes.
Tbh Spencer looks more like silver link
@@Furrytrash428 Yeah, but his brother, Mallard, is just the A4 Mallard engine with the face slapped on it
It's just a random A4. That's it.

adding an removable Extension pipe of about 4-5 feet will keep the smoke and ashes running into the drivers eyes and lungs.
Or just have the engine larger, so the cab covers the driver
Or just wear goggles
Great ,nice,super work 👍👍👍😉🇨🇿🍀🍀🍀🍀
what gauge and scale is that, such a beautiful locomotive
I remember when I was around 4 years old I was crying because I learned you couldn’t buy one of these 😂
you can buy it :;)
but it will be more expensive then a car

For this size around £25,000 the boilers are the most expensive parts
Do you know who built it? Looks just like Bill’s old Gresley.
Just had a look on the website, it is his. Wondered where this ended up, not seen it since I was a kid..
why do i like these so much?
Such model railroad associations also exist in Germany - Hessen - Taunus
Here they are called model engineering societies
10:04. Too noisy!

Totally me. XD

Mallard will always be amazing in any size
That's not Mallard, that's Sir Nigel Gresley
Those look and sound nice! :)
GREAT WORK
Very good video I enjoyed watching this.
the flag on top the A4 is a thomas and friends flag
would of been good to put a camera in a carriage and shown a view of a lap of the track included in the video.

You can get smaller 3 inch gauge trains for gardens
I hope you don't try going 126mph on that locomotive! Also is that anthracite coal or another kind?

Do people build theses themselves? Or is there somewhere we’re you can by them? Or what?
You can build them from scratch or specialist websites
Well, it has some appeal: How many "minitature" tenders can you casually lean on?
Got to love the British weather..
How do you initially get the draft in the firebox/boiler?
Great looking layout! What scale is this system? 1/4 scale?
Where do people find minature locos like this. I would absolutely love to have a A4 running in my backyard one-day
Garden ones are usually 3 inch gauge trains and a lot more cheaper
Sir nicao cresley looks like spencer from thomas and friends
Thanks for the reply.. so it's normal to have blue smoke if using steam coal like Welsh steam or Russian coal ?

The exterior itself - it's quite badass!

Can they repaint it to BR blue

Could I ask who owns it
The railway owns it.
I dont know how this is miniture, that train is half my height
Could all be relegated to glass cases once all coal supplies in uk dry up.
What happened to the miniature railway at South Sea Castle. Did any of these locomotives come from there?
