    Thank you for your review. I just bought an LG Ultrafine 27UQ85R. Overall, the primary differences between the model you reviewed and the model I bought lie model year (LG 27UQ850: 2022 and LG 27UQ85R: 2023), and the inclusion of a Self Calibration Sensor in the LG 27UQ85R. The other specifications and features are very similar, suggesting that both models would perform similarly in most use cases according to my source, who says LG 27UQ85R-W stands out for its higher brightness and similar color coverage as the Dell U2723QE. In contrast, the Dell U2723QE offers a broader range of refresh rates and more comprehensive connectivity options, including additional USB ports and an Ethernet RJ45 port. Making a choice between LG and Dell should depend on your specific needs, such as the importance of brightness, color accuracy, refresh rate, and the variety of connectivity options! I had a hard time making my choice - I went for LG. Time will show if that is a good choice. :)

    I'm a big fan of LG monitors. I'm using a 29" Ultrawide as my work monitor and have never had any issues with it. I picked up an ASUS ProArt 27 (1440p) for my personal desktop a while ago and was very happy with it until I watched this video --- that LG Ultrafine is a very compelling monitor.

    I bought the Dell equivalent at the start of this year for design work as an architecture student, its been absolutely fantastic all round. I think compared to the Studio Display the LG and the Dell are going to better for most use cases, you’d be nuts to spend way more given the LG and Dell provide everything you need for most people (certainly me) and are all around great to use. Also great video again they’re getting better and better 👍

      I also got the Dell and I hate it. It does not work well with Macs. I ended up getting an Apple Studio Display and it's amazing. Love it. The Dell was 1/2 the price so I suppose it was my fault for going for the cheap option. I'm currently using the Dell as an extended monitor but I'm thinking of just giving the Dell to my wife cause it sucks so bad.

    Your review covered a lot of ground in an even handed manner. Thanks. However, based on your comments and reviews on Amazon and LG sites, it seems the monitor is "adequate" but not "perfect." I've watched/read quite a few reviews in the past little while and given the amount of $$ for a new Mac Mini M2 with 32 GB and 1 TB, for my purposes of mainly video editing, it seems the Apple Studio display better matches the level of the MacMini. Hi there Kyle. Top notch content. As always ... and really high end production as well. However, I do think there is a place for a Studio Display. Especially for its 5K res, true AiO solution, build quality, seamless integration with Macs and clean desk space ... just to name a few benefits of having an ASD. Different people different priorities. In the end I think it all comes down to a personal preference. In matters of taste, there can be no disputes.

    Would be very interesting to see a comparison between 27UQ850-W and 27UP850-W in a dark room. Comparing glow effect, light bleeding, contrast and how they respond to changing viewing angles on both panels. On the older 27UP850-W glow effect is very noticeable even during daylight. I wonder how it is on the new model.
    Also when showing light bleeding, it would be more helpful to increase camera ISO to exaggerate the result which would make the bleeding more visible (just for example to see it better).

  • @matthiasb.6915
    @matthiasb.6915 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    4k 27" monitors are in general very bad for mac users. This is because of the 160 PPIs and the way how apple scales the resolution either by factor 1x or 2x. The result is, that the windows are either too large or too small. You can work around that by using a 1.5x scale factor, but this will consume e lot of GPU power and the image won't look good, because of pixel interpolation.
    Unfortunately I also just learned this, after I bought this screen.
    I'm just wondering how anybody could really misguide people here on youtube by telling them this to be a great monitor for Mac.

    • @PavelKartsel
      @PavelKartsel 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wonder how was this fact missed in the video! Just a few seconds of "apple display may be a bit sharper" does not represent the difference.

    I a looking for a monitor for my M2 Pro Mac Mini. Based on your review I am seriously considering this monitor. I went to a local store today that has Apple products. I wanted to see what an LG monitor looked like in person. They had the M1 iMac, and a M1 Mac Mini hooked up to a LG 27UL500. Obviously a lower quality LG. However, the iMac monitor looked much better than the LG. How would you compare this monitor to the iMac? In this video you seemed to say that the LG 27 UQ850 is close to the Apple studio monitor in display quality. PS: I am replacing a 217 in intel iMac with a great monitor.

    i was thinking about picking up a 24md4kl for my mac mini m2 but was confused about the ports on the back. I was under the impression the ports in the back are capable of charging laptops tablets phones etc, so I thought you couldn't plug in something like the mac mini m2 2003. Wouldnt a charge from this monitor damage the mac mini? How is your display set up? thru the thunderbolt port? If so do you think its worth upgrading to a thunderport 4 over the 3? thanks I appreciate the input~

Even at 150% on Webpages the zoom works but in any folder like a C drive all the text and folders are of a very small size and i dont know how to fix this problem. I know it's pretty similar to SRGB, but for my colorgrading workflow i would like to have the versatility to switch to Rec709 since it's what i'll be mostly exporting too. but im not sure how accurate would it look if all the reviews i could find only talk about the P3 gamut. I bought one with my M2 Ultra and brought it back right away. It was clearly inferior to the Apple monitor which I bought. I do a lot of editing and the LG was a horrible strain on my eyes and never had the sharp depth that the Apple 27: monitor has. It's not even close.

    • @KyleErickson
      @KyleErickson  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      two things I think - one is cost, the other is bandwidth. A lot of machines in professional settings that aren't setup for gaming don't have high enough bandwidth ports to handle more than 60hz, so you would end up offering something that will only work for a select number of machines. You could also make the case that in those settings a 60hz panel is likely good enough for most of that work.
