Tom Brechtlein on drums. A great and (in my opinion) hugely underrated drummer. Played with Chick from when he was in his early 20s. He is also a very nice and sweet person.
Yes, I agree what you said about Tom B. I don't know about the others, but I used Tom on drums for my Christmas release and he was SO EASY TO WORK WITH. Made the song come alive with his drumming.
Man that Yamaha DX7 sounds so good. Like bruh, after watching this video i feeling like buying a few myself. Im 22 years old and i love the DX7, one of my favorite synthesizers, specially the Fulltines sounds
I've got a DX7. I've also got a DX100 and a DX21. For some reason, I can only make extremely chime-like metallic sounds out of it. Chick makes it sound amazing.
I believe these are the rehearsals for the first Elektric Band album. Brechtlein did the rehearsals in L.A. because Weckl was still living in New York.
If I hadn't checked the comments, and only heard the music, I might have mistakenly said Dave Weckl - quite similar style. And sound. It's interesting that classic drum and bass sounds still sound great. But 'cool' keyboard sounds of the time now sound sh*t. 😂 There's a lesson there for musicians in terms of fashionable sounds - avoid! Piano, guitar, drums, brass, strings.. Always sound good.
Yeah they're only humans alright, but they fix themselfs for this piece like figuring things out one time and that's enough. Doesn't seem like they have to do homework for this piece or so. So much skill and talent. =)

Yea, but he likes to keep things strictly controlled with tightly structured arangements. Some of the musicians who have worked with him over the years would have prefered more improvisation--especially live.

Great to hear! I found out about Tommy when I went to PIT and took lessons with and keep going back to listen to him for ideas and inspiration

The Yamaha DXs and TXs have an entirely different expressionism that any other synth before or after, it's why he used them, sound is just part of it.
