This is my tribute to Chick and Herbie. If you like this shred, you may wanna check out my other shred of Chick & Herbie, playing "Someday My Prince Will Come" (on my channel). Not as funny, but very weird...
Whoever made this video, THANK YOU! I honestly can't remember laughing as hard as this in years. With all the shit we're going through this year I really needed this. Absolute genius 👏👏👏
This is a bloody masterpiece. I was actually going to comment about Chick and Herb not being in their best moment in this performance, but luckily I read the comments first, and so I discovered this use of the word "shred" that I wasn´t familiar with. No wonder I couldn´t understand what the hell Chick was controlling with his Minimoog!
the best part about this is the fact that the very first few notes could feasibly be the head to a chick tune before it absolutely falls apart and goes into shred land
The funny thing is this is only slightly more goofy than the real video. I think this guy's keytar sound might actually be better than the original. Also, I love how Herbie needed 4 pages of sheet music for a song that's 90% a two chord jam.
I will NEVER be able to watch this without tears racing down my face from laughing!!! It's so accurately horrible that it just lights up any moment in my day!!! In my top 3 shreds of all time!!!
At first I was like WTF how can Herbie play so bad and then when I found out it's a mock up I must say job well done, this is so funny and very skillfully put together with the video.
RIP you magnificent man, Mr. Corea. Chick, I thank you so much for making me a better musician and making me listen to a ton more jazz than I ever would have if it wasn't for you. May we keep Herbie for a while tho?
They would absolutely die. It would be the funniest thing they've ever experienced. It is for me but if I was originally the composer and performer it'd blow my mind.
107 people have no sense of humor. and I really like when he's going through all the sounds of the keyboard trying to find just the right one live on stage
First time I saw it I thought it was real and that it was a kind of troll made by Chick and Herbie. The Chick's articulation is so well-done I thought it was really him!
I am really glad I didn't read these comments before watching the video, but I have to say I was watching the video thinking to myself "This is some really bizarre stuff.. I can't imagine it would be mainstream enough to be interesting to Merv's audience... must be just that the synth sounds were so new back then, it was interesting to watch".. Now I MUST find the original..
Funny and painfull like hell, but you really should post a link to the original half way through. There may be folks out there that wont realize what's going on here.
Interestingly I only lasted 3 1/2 minutes with the original before the noodling bored me. The spoof was much more entertaining even though my teeth were hurting, my skin was crawling, and my eyes were watering. The choices of cheesey ROMples and awful FM patches were sublime.
How Chick keeps changing patches until he settles for the goofy Male Choir patch kills me.
That is an awful sound
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You don’t understand the potential
The Bell sound just before is considered inferior by the late Giant😂😂
Me too😂😂😂
The universe needs a video of Herbie Hancock reacting to this gem.
Chick changing the patches killed me hahaha
is the best part!!! XD
Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha
The patch change was genius! Lol!
That was the part that make me realize this is a real footage, i have the same presets in my moog.
Like he’s just practicing or trying out the Mini-Moog/Rhodes for the first time at a music store 🤣🤣🤣.....😳😳😳😳😳
I think this might be the most intelligent shred ever.
Hands down!
It’s between this and “Miles and Coltrane Shred” 👍🏻
Agree. So precise!😊lol
It’s all about the notes they didn’t play.
Heard them both play way better!!
This is one of the funniest videos on the internet no one knows about.
And THAT's why John Patitucci is my favorite bass player.
He shreds in this performance bigtime
i've watched this like 20 times. still finding new things. today's find was chick adjusting the volume at 2:00. truly a masterful work
PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
The bass polka part all the way through ties it all together. Hilarious!
This is my tribute to Chick and Herbie. If you like this shred, you may wanna check out my other shred of Chick & Herbie, playing "Someday My Prince Will Come" (on my channel). Not as funny, but very weird...
It's so good, thanks so much for making this, it has given much joy.
This is a thing of musical and comedic beauty. Very well done. Somewhere Victor Borge is smiling...
About to transcribe, wish me luck.
howd it go
LMAO!
I can try to do the bass lines if you need help.
So xD?
Where is it?
Whoever made this video, THANK YOU! I honestly can't remember laughing as hard as this in years. With all the shit we're going through this year I really needed this. Absolute genius 👏👏👏
'' With all the shit we're going through this year ...'' shut out from 2023 lol
1:06 my man choose choir Aaah 1

Martha Argerich shred. Snarky Puppy shred. Pavarotti shred.
Seems the Moog is rather controlling him!
Are you kidding? - this has to be better than the original by far.
Sometimes I come back here to be happy again
Endless preset search.
FINALLY! Some good jazz music
This made my moment. This is pretty much what you might hear in any music store in the USA on any given Saturday...
The pitch bend is killing me!
The funniest dominant 7th voicing in the world
yeah one of the highlights of the vid for me
Absolutely cheesy
I know fuck all about harmony, are you talking about this chord? 1:41
I think it's more about the function than the voicing itself, in my head that would pass as a V.
the best part about this is the fact that the very first few notes could feasibly be the head to a chick tune before it absolutely falls apart and goes into shred land
I watch this shred all the time, sometimes days in a row... I still cry every time. I laugh every time like it's the first time I hear it.
The funny thing is this is only slightly more goofy than the real video. I think this guy's keytar sound might actually be better than the original.

My god, what are the other two?!
I'm laughing my ass off, and trying so hard not to wake everyone up
@@tooomasz The EWF September one is even funnier.
The Charlie Parker Donna Lee Shred is the best
I'm gonna use this in my jazz appreciation course tomorrow and see if I can get any sophomores to nod thoughtfully along.
So cool that they covered one of my garage band tracks!
At first I was like WTF how can Herbie play so bad and then when I found out it's a mock up I must say job well done, this is so funny and very skillfully put together with the video.
This shred not only nails it but also the music really cheers up my heart somehow.
RIP you magnificent man, Mr. Corea.
Chick, I thank you so much for making me a better musician and making me listen to a ton more jazz than I ever would have if it wasn't for you. May we keep Herbie for a while tho?
5:58 .. the final note. Beautiful.
OMG the unwavering Mexican LaCuccarocha baseline....LOLOL
pete gregory relentless
The small amount of contribution that huge-ass synth behind the late Chick (😢) is bringing, is just too funny!!
It's amazing what they catch in post production.
Chick corea switching sounds. hilarious haha 0:55
Hahahahahaha
Wasn't satisfied until he found 'Male Chorus 2"
I laughed so hard until tears were pouring out my eyes! The part where Herbie is bending and modulating that keytar are killing me to death!
anytime i revisit this shreds vid, Chick changing patches get me every time! lol
I love when Chick starts selecting every different classic Casio patch. I died laughing.
Omg, the bass line has me cracking up!
We watch this daily for inspiration and the best laugh no money can buy! This beats EVERYTHING....the patch changes kill me.IMMEDIATELY EVERYTIME
Kudos to the drummer...HE STAYED IN THE POCKET
This video has singlehandedly made my day over and over.
Love Chic's inspiration when he turns around and bashes out the chords on that big digital piano 😂
This is the best shreds-video I have ever seen :)
I keep coming back to this
the drum and bass fucking sends me
Still sounds like jazz. Love it.
I will always find this hilarious. Always. Herbie's run on the keytar at 2:10 is genius.
I wonder if Chick and Herbie know about this :p
I've meanwhile watched the original video, and Herbie's stuff is actually not all that different, hahaha! :-))
Haha, I thought the same! With some slight changes though (major->minor), the track is magnificent for me
Tomasz yes !
They would absolutely die. It would be the funniest thing they've ever experienced. It is for me but if I was originally the composer and performer it'd blow my mind.
Tomasz Rafalski If I could get Roy Vogt to pass this on to John Patitucci or Steve Bailey and then have them pass it on to Chick then yes.
There's no way they would've pulled this crap with Miles around lol
For some reason I feel exactly like the last time I went to the keyboards department of a music store just to try a keyboard!
RIP Corea, Your impromptu playing still legend
It sounds like a Kazakh's wedding party song.
Or Russian pop music from just before the Soviet Union collapsed.
1:38 I will never forget
If you really love their music, it's even funnier...
It definitely is! ^.^
Totally :D check out 1989 Mt. Fuji Jazz fest of them together
RIP
I bow to this shreader!
Bravo!
Rest in Power Chick
107 people have no sense of humor. and I really like when he's going through all the sounds of the keyboard trying to find just the right one live on stage
Nah, those people probably thought this was a legit performance lmao
This shred is perfect.
RIP a legend in music
I kept saying to myself for the first 6 minutes into it "they're just getting warmed up." clmbo
I knew something went wrong, but still watching till the end.
First time I saw it I thought it was real and that it was a kind of troll made by Chick and Herbie. The Chick's articulation is so well-done I thought it was really him!
Esto es mucho mejor que cualquier canción de regeton
1:51 After the solo, the whole band again 😄
Lol they knew to back off and let chick work that genius solo
Best Song Ever 😅 I wouldn’t change any note !!!
"Genius" is an overused word, but this...this is majestic. Reminds me wayyyy too much of incidental music for _Dr Who_ in the mid-80s.
Chick & his DX7 presets LOL
R.I.P Chick Corea ( 1941 - 2021 )
I am really glad I didn't read these comments before watching the video, but I have to say I was watching the video thinking to myself "This is some really bizarre stuff.. I can't imagine it would be mainstream enough to be interesting to Merv's audience... must be just that the synth sounds were so new back then, it was interesting to watch".. R. I. P Chick
Rip, the artist :'(
This killed me . Im physically sick from laughing
This is the best shred in youtube's history
Sin duda estoy enganchado a ver este video una y otra vez.... Esto es el mejor jazz que he escuchado jamás
one of the most satisfying videos I’ve ever clicked on
I was like, "Hey, that sounds like the Garageband presets! Hey, this sounds like hot garbage!"...and then it hit me.
Chick Corea and the Bestband4ever
The precision is amazing. Beautiful!
This is so much better than I could've imagined
From the corny polka/circus beat to the cheesy patch he keeps switching to this is hilarious!😂
Herbie absolutely letting it rip at 2:44!
Ok this is officially the best shredz I have ever seen
I can't stop watching it it's making me lose my damn mind
03:12 Chick's serious, intense gaze, that's too much
I am crying hahahahaha
Speaker said: "SUPER" (!) These are the days .... yea it was really quite funny :)))))))))))))))))
If we survive everything...Humor is like talent. God save the Jazz. 😉🙃🙂
Shreds will never die!
The funny thing is, this is what their music must sound like to people who don't know jazz. Just more dissonant.
Yeeaaaah that's not true
Theodor Leijonberg Andreassen
How would you know
@@drmedwuast kind of a tired exaggeration huh? I mean, even if you don't know about jazz, you can still discern this as a joke.
@@theodorleijonbergandreasse3228
I don't think you understood what I was saying
The pitch bend and looks Chick is throwing at Herb after @3:16 is hilarious
It never gets old 😂
Herbies got that beautiful Casio watch to go with his Roland synth.
Funny and painfull like hell, but you really should post a link to the original half way through. There may be folks out there that wont realize what's going on here.
Yep, I just met one of them ;-)
th-cam.com/video/YQtpcESUEKM/w-d-xo.html
even better
Interestingly I only lasted 3 1/2 minutes with the original before the noodling bored me. The spoof was much more entertaining even though my teeth were hurting, my skin was crawling, and my eyes were watering. The choices of cheesey ROMples and awful FM patches were sublime.
funniest thing i have seen in a long time.... kudos
Gotta love when Chick changes patches on the Minimoog...priceless :)
This song sounds like what it's like be tickled
Здорово!!!!! Великолепно!!!!!!!! Высший класс!!!! Достойно подражанию!!! НЕ привзойдённо!!!
Ору в голос!
Chick Corea's official facebook page posted this stuff... that's actually why I am here. ¬¬
Thank you very much, this is the funniest video I' ve ever seen.
OMG.. Love it. havent LOLed like that since Jaco shred.. this might be better.
That first major triad arpeggio from Herbie....🙇🏽♂️🙇🏽♂️🙇🏽♂️
Oh my god this is brilliant
