2 coins in the fountain of youth.
We all remember being in our 20’s..
The song is about Paul McCartney and George Harrison’s felling’s of the downward spiral..
I think a shrink could explore this at $500 an hour and at the end of the 9 sessions say, “you were young, but you loved each other”..
    It’s all good..
George made his point..and continued to write great music.
    Paul did the same..
They got over it..No issues here, but a very fascinating look into past feeling’s about the greatest band ever..

Are you sure about this? I read somewhere- sorry, don’t recall where- that the song was about John because John was really hurt that George had not mentioned him one iota in George’s book. That George hadn’t acknowledged that John had been any influence on him musically at all. I don’t know- I just read that somewhere. I guess the only thing we can know for sure is that the 4 of them went through everything together in the phenomenon know as the Beatles. Slowly they evolved as human beings with changing needs and had to contend with trying to sustain a closeness while growing into separate people. I’m just glad for the brilliance of their music, their humor and how long they put their creativity energy into this body of work that we’ll always have.

The point is Paul and Ringo went to see George before he passed. Reminiscing about old times and joking. Forgiveness came for sure

I wrote the words of this beautiful song in a letter to my estranged wife after she wrecked our marriage by having an affair. I’m sure it ended up in her rubbish bin.

Curious title. Is it something Paul said to George that really upset him ? Too late to ask George, I doubt that Paul will explain it, even assuming he knows. Perhaps it's just my age but I've always considered the output of the Beatles as so much better than anything any of them came up with post break up.

A song about being confused, am I a backstabber?? Yes you and John were and Paul was the stabbed one,, that's the truth . Remember the cover of Paul's album where 3 Beetles are f'ing one?? Yes that's what happened when Paul was stabbed , because Yoko liked Allen Klein.

I don't think it's garbage but it is a bit meandering and probably could have been worked on a bit more. The "No one around you" part is the strongest one, but it is functionally not a refrain but a bridge that creates anticipation for a refrain that never arrives.

Song is half a century old, the artist is 20 years dead, and the song still garners an audience. I’d say it’s successful even if it doesn’t bring anything new to the table, and I think it’s a masterpiece. Different strokes for different folks tho.
