    Finally , central area !😁
    The only area in Singapore that everyone enjoys. It's really a place that for shopping and strolling.
    Hope other neighborhoods have the same amenities like this . Best with permanent night markets. We need changes and creation of our own Finger foods that represent sg. And tourists could visit as well ... 👍🤣

    Ghib San, Back in the 70s & 80s Bugis had a colorful past. At night the place transformed into a open air cabaret performances by transvestites dressed like pretty ladies dancing & teasing their potential client. We use to call them “Ah Quah”.

    Ghib San, you could explore & do a video of the dry goods shops above the hawker centre. It’s very interesting as locals will frequent there for it very affordable dried goods (dried shrimps, ikan bilis, scallops, etc) Chinese herbs and snacks.

    Hello Ghib, the white building with red window frames on you right near the end of your video was originally a Japanese school very long ago. Middle road used to have a small community of Japanese before WW2. if you look at the gables of the hall, you can still see the motif of a rising sun. Near the famous Rochor Beancurd store is a building that was a Japanese hospital.

    If I'm not wrong , the ancestors from Hainan first arrived were in Bugis and that Became their territory. There's a road name "Hainan road" (not too sure ) inside bugis junction . Cantonese at Chinatown... Hokkien not too sure 🤣😁

    • @jimmyyap3828
      @jimmyyap3828 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Clement Gome ! You are absolutely correct. The present day Bugis Junction was formerly made up of 4 streets - Malay Street, Hylam Street ( Hainan is the Mandarin pronunciation ), Malabar Street and Bugis Street. These 4 streets were surrounded by Victoria Street to the North, Rochore Rd ( East ), North Bridge Rd ( South ) and Middle Rd ( West ). Hylam Street was indeed where the Hainanese from Hainan Island China first settled. I read that there were also some Japanese living here. Yes again most of the Cantonese allocated streets in Chinatown. The Hokkiens were mainly in today's AMOY Street ( Thian Hock Keng Temple oldest Chinese temple in Singapore ). You must have lived here decades ago. Where are you based now ? This open air eating spots where the tables are placed in the middle of the road at Bugis and Malabar streets decades ago are frequented by locals to tourists. Many are British troops based in the North of Singapore ( SEMBAWANG ), Naval Base to ANZUK forces ( Australia , NZ and UK ). I will always cherish the memories of soldiers or those in Royal Navy forces dining in the street and going up the rooftop of that public toilet in Bugis Street to perform their singing or dancing !!

    Old British soldiers who were posted to Singapore in the 1950 & 1960s used to tell stories of how they found out that the beautiful young ladies they picked up at Bugis Street were not quite what they seemed! 😂 That side of things is all gone now!

    Bro , not sure if you went to selegie before ( can walk from city hall mrt. You can visit chijme on the way another iconic location in singapore) If you do you can visit parklane singapore last kachang puteh store. It is about homemade tibits (a few spicy type too). It is also another part of singapore history
    😃.
    You love music and jamming can visit parklane too. I think there is such room for rental. This kind of old type shopping centre may contain some gem for your experience here😀
