Sa2 mod manager isn’t opening for me I just get the which game would you like to open this in screen and I press on a game and it just doesn’t open sa2 mod manager.
when i open the mod manager it asks for me do download some updates to the mod manager, then it closes once the updates are done and reopening the manager brings up the same request as if the updates were never downloaded
Followed all the steps, it doesn't work, When I add Sonic2App.exe to my games folder it just plays a crap quality 4:3 version of Sonic Adventure 2 with no sound and no mods equipped.

Been playing with mods for a few weeks but I've been having a weird issue, the menu for Enhanced Chao World doesn't seem to show up. Some troubleshooting and asking around seems to suggest it's something to do with installed DLLs? Was wondering if the menu shows up in the chao garden when you press select, or if you just get the sound effects of the menu like I do?

I'm modding the PC version of SA2B. The process is not the same for modding an emulated version of the game, but I have not tried modding this particular game through an emulator so I cannot offer much help unfortunately. There is a steam sale happening right now if you want to pick up the PC version to mod.

@@SilvertongueRED that's good! Is the game set to windowed somehow? It's possible that something like that could mess with your controller functioning as intended
Hello, is there any way to UPDATE the mod loader? There's quite a few of mods i wanna try out but cant cuz im using an older version of the mod loader, and every time i try using the more recent one, it shows up a screen asking me "do you want to keep the original SA2 mod loader or switch to SA mod manager?", choosing any of these options crashes the entire thing or shows an error screen saying the mod loader couldnt find a specific file. SA Mod Manager works well for SADX, but none of the mods in SA2B load (the codes work fine, but the mods dont). I could really use some help

I have not yet tried. My latest project has been to get the Sonic World DX fan game working on deck. I have been unsuccessful so far, but there is a video on TH-cam of someone doing it.
Is there a way to have it close from just steam os everytime I open it I have to close 2 seperate tabs, and I’d rather it be minimum tabs or at least close the one I open because I have 2 Sonic adventure opened and sometimes my brother forgets to fully close out of them and I don’t wanna tax the system

I’m getting an error “proton trick does not have access to directory /run/media/mmcblk0p1” Then it tells me to copy a command and run it in a terminal, Seems to be some sort of override? And then to restart proton tricks?
I remember doing that when I first set up protontricks. It should be fine to do. You can also use wine instead from the discover store if you don't want to mess with setting up protontricks
Thank you for this - I came here after following this whole video only to need this tip. Further tip to anyone else - if you've already added it as a non-Steam game before renaming the launcher, you need to go in to the game settings and put the target as "launcher.exe" again so it'll start up!
@@NE-oj4be hi just curious if you’ve noticed that the game loads much quicker (specifically chao world with chao world extended) when launched from the mod manager BUT only in desktop mode? Game launches fine with mods either from original launcher or mod manager in either mode (have to relabel mod manager to launcher to get the game to start in game mode from mod manager) but loads SIGNIFICANTLY quicker from mod manager in desktop mode. Even changed SA2ModManager.exe to Launcher.exe so can start game from game mode from mod manager with official original steam entry not non steam game
So I downloaded the mod manager, and put a mod in the sa2 mods folder like you said, but it didn’t show up in the mod manager? Nor was there a mod manager folder, either.
I believe I’m doing something incorrect here. I have the mod selected then I hit save. Then I’ll go back to game mode and select the modded sonic game and the mod is not working within the game.

Did you happen to click "install loader" in the mod manager? I forgot to mention that step in the video. Also ensure you are launching sonic2app.exe and check to make sure you have proton compatibility enabled
@@ZombieOfun I did yeah, I can click it again to be safe, also the proton layer you use in the video isn’t on mine so I used experimental, unless there’s a way to get the GE one?
@@spartan_jackttv1867 I showed how to get GE in the beginning, but ultimately you should be able to use most of the newer versions. Maybe try switching to the latest stable proton version instead of experimental? I have found I sometimes need to restart the deck after switching proton versions to see good results.

Need some help as I'm stuck on a step in the video. Trying to launch the exe. file for the mod loader. The one you clicked on where it showed a list of games. Instead, it asks me what application I need to open with. Someone who can help me out, big ty cuz I suck with tech stuff
If you're referring to opening the mod loader then wine or protontricks should help you there. If you're referred to running the actual game, do that through steam with proton compatibility enabled. I haven't run into this error myself, so unfortunately my ideas on how to fix it are admittedly limited.

I had that issue with HD GUI. Assuming you've set up the mods correctly and are launching from the other exe I'd see if that's causing problems (or maybe some other mod)

From all the mods i’ve tried, the only mod that doesn’t make the game instantly crash upon startup has been the Chao World Extended mod. At the end of the day that’s all that I really need, but it’d still be nice to have character select plus and some others
I did exactly what you said (except for adding the game as a non-steam game because I found a different way from a "Definitive" Google Doc page, and after hitting save and play on the mod loader it goes back to the steam menu.

@@ZombieOfun I honestly have zero idea if any of the mods could be causing the issue, the crash always seems to happen right after either the first Hero Story Cutscene or right after beating the first stage. The mods I'm using in order are: Chao World Extended Cutscene Revamp Action Remap Fast Somersault Fixed SFX Volume No Model Tinting Rendering Fixes Roaxes Zelda Hats Idle chatter And yes, I have the mod manager running in proton GE compatibility.
@@jdh96 It's good that you're running the mod manager through proton, but did you make sure to launch the game through sonic2app.exe? If you launch Sonic Adventure 2 through its default steam listing it has some issues, so you have to add sonic2app.exe as a non-steam game and force proton compatibility through there. The only other thing I can think is to disable mods, see if the game works, then slowly re-enable your mods so you can determine if any particular mods are causing the crash

for some reason my game starts, but the second it reaches the loading screen before the intro cinematic it crashes on both the regular game and sonic2exe in steam with proton.
I followed your guide thanks to the Ultimate Guide that added your vid. At first it worked (mods included), but after trying to mod other Sonic titles (Gens/Frontiers) and coming back to this one, it stopped working. idk if it's because I installed bottles or because STL is in protontricks. So now when I launch SA2 modded, it instantly crashes. I am hoping this issue can be resolved.
Have you installed any newer mods that might have compatibility issues? The only other thing I can think is maybe going for a fresh install and using wine rather than protontricks
@@ZombieOfun I did a fresh install of protontricks. For some reason, bottles took priority. But with the reinstalled protontricks, I was able to load into mod manager. For some reason, SA2 modded still doesn't work, but loading into SA2 loaded my mods in. No other mods were installed during the process.
@@Jeatkid Linux sure is a finicky platform. I am sad to see compatibility hasn't gotten too much better since I made the tutorial. I've done a lot less nodding on my steam deck since, primarily just playing games vanilla or using emulators and reserving modding to my PC.
My folder path seems to be completely different, and I can even find it. Specifically referring to when trying to add the modded game to my Steam list as a non-steam game.
@@ZombieOfun I finally managed to find it, and while the game wasn't opening at all at first, I got it to open by pressing the Steam button and seeing it say it was running, so I selected 'Resume Game' and then it opened. But.. it crashed during the loading screen. The mods I have installed are HD Character Models, Cutscene Revamps, No Model Tint, Modern SA2 5.0, and Chao Garden Extended. (Might have another mod or two. Can't remember.)
@@DevinOfBacon I seem to remember cutscene revamp causing crashes. You're best bet is to disable one mod at a time and launch the game to isolate what is causing the crash
Proton lets you use Windows applications on SteamOS, so it does not work without it. You may not need proton GE specifically, but you will at least need wine or protontricks to launch the mod manager and proton compatibility enabled in game mode to play the game
Hmm, I seem to be doing just fine with the Chao Garden mods enabled. Did you make sure to force compatibility on sonic2app.exe through steam so it uses proton?
SADX mod loader should function fundamentally the same as SA2 Mod Loader, so the process should also be about the same. I'm taking a trip tomorrow so I'll be a bit preoccupied but I can double check when I get the opportunity. Otherwise, I could recommend applying a similar process as shown in the video to SADX Mod Loader.

So I done every step but each time I try to load the game it fails to load it every time.
Everytime i open the mod manager it tries to update and fails in the process

It is unlikely that I will be making any videos soon as I'm currently student teaching, and you should still be able to get achievements.

Change the SA2 mod launcher to Launcher.exe and the original Launcher to Launcher.backup.exe that's it
You need to manual download the mods and extract the zip file, 1 tap install will not work

@@ZombieOfun I added the sonic2app to Steam like you suggested and surprisingly, no more crashes! Thank you very much for the suggestion, I had just assumed using the Mod loader to launch it under proton would be good enough but, I guess not.

Probably, but I like SteamOS
cutscene revamp seems to consistently crash on Steam Deck even when it's the only mod used.
I experienced that issue as well. I found most mods that change UI or cutscene elements consistently caused crashes
for some reason my game starts, but the second it reaches the loading screen before the intro cinematic it crashes on both the regular game and sonic2exe in steam with proton.
That likely means one of the mods is causing a crash. That happened to me when I was trying to use the HD GUI and Dreamcast Lighting mods.

I followed your guide thanks to the Ultimate Guide that added your vid. At first it worked (mods included), but after trying to mod other Sonic titles (Gens/Frontiers) and coming back to this one, it stopped working. idk if it's because I installed bottles or because STL is in protontricks. So now when I launch SA2 modded, it instantly crashes. I am hoping this issue can be resolved.
Have you installed any newer mods that might have compatibility issues? The only other thing I can think is maybe going for a fresh install and using wine rather than protontricks

I did a fresh install of protontricks. For some reason, bottles took priority. But with the reinstalled protontricks, I was able to load into mod manager. For some reason, SA2 modded still doesn't work, but loading into SA2 loaded my mods in. No other mods were installed during the process.
@@Jeatkid Linux sure is a finicky platform. I am sad to see compatibility hasn't gotten too much better since I made the tutorial.
I've done a lot less nodding on my steam deck since, primarily just playing games vanilla or using emulators and reserving modding to my PC.
My folder path seems to be completely different, and I can even find it. Specifically referring to when trying to add the modded game to my Steam list as a non-steam game.
You might be able to find it if you right click on the game in steam, properties, and browse local files
@@ZombieOfun I finally managed to find it, and while the game wasn't opening at all at first, I got it to open by pressing the Steam button and seeing it say it was running, so I selected 'Resume Game' and then it opened.
But.. it crashed during the loading screen.
The mods I have installed are HD Character Models, Cutscene Revamps, No Model Tint, Modern SA2 5.0, and Chao Garden Extended.
(Might have another mod or two. Can't remember.)
@@DevinOfBacon I seem to remember cutscene revamp causing crashes. You're best bet is to disable one mod at a time and launch the game to isolate what is causing the crash
Do we have to get proton . Can’t I just do the same as I did on my real pc ???(without getting proton)
Proton lets you use Windows applications on SteamOS, so it does not work without it. You may not need proton GE specifically, but you will at least need wine or protontricks to launch the mod manager and proton compatibility enabled in game mode to play the game

Hmm, I seem to be doing just fine with the Chao Garden mods enabled. Did you make sure to force compatibility on sonic2app.exe through steam so it uses proton?

I can't get the mod loader to even launch
I have found it sometimes requires a reset before wine or proton will work on desktop mode. It can be finicky.

Can you do Sonic Adventure?
SADX mod loader should function fundamentally the same as SA2 Mod Loader, so the process should also be about the same.
I'm taking a trip tomorrow so I'll be a bit preoccupied but I can double check when I get the opportunity. Otherwise, I could recommend applying a similar process as shown in the video to SADX Mod Loader.

To what? The mod manager is in the description. Everything else is on the discover store on the Steam Deck's desktop mode.

Your tutorial does not work
The file path for me is different it’s /home/deck.local/share/steam/steamapps/common/Sonic adventure DX/ how can I get it to be the same as the video.
I don't think you need the file path to be the same for it to work. You just need to make sure the mod loader knows where your exe is located
