My comment is seemingly getting fragged by TH-cam for some reason but, I was going to comment that it's possible to get the FMV's working using a specific version of ProtonGE.
How do i mod sonic frontiers like this please help me
I noticed this game was listed as unsupported after getting my steam deck for Christmas. I'm glad you made this video so that I can install this game later.
thank you for making this!
Have fun!
@@OfficiallySpis it possible to mod sonic frontiers like this please help.
I followed a few other guides and I wasnt able to get it working till I followed your steps, thanks for this video 👍
Glad it helped
some corrections:
1. "konsole" is named that way because the steam deck uses the desktop environment KDE, arch is independent of this.
2. install proton-ge to get those FMVs working
everything else was great :)
I feel dumb about the konsole thing. That’s my bad. But thanks for the tip on getting the FMVs working
Oh my goodness thank you thank you that you so much! I was trying to mod Sonic Adventure on my Steam deck but failed but because of you, I was able to get it to work perfectly, thank you very much dude!
Short video, direct video, helpful video, and what a nice person
Glad it was helpful!
Dis very helpful thanks
Thanks for this!
No worries!
very cool, thank you :)
Thank you! Hope it helped
Thanks for this, nearly everything works on my end including FMV's the only weird thing being that the title screen is way too zoomed in for some reason? It's not a dealbreaker or anything, but if anyone knows a fix for that, that'd be great.
Edit: If anyone is having issues with their game not saving, I used GE-Proton7-1 and this seems to have fixed the issue. The only issue this has caused for me is that the mod manager won’t recognise any inputs in gaming mode, but if you open it up in desktop mode to make any adjustments you need to, it’ll save and you can continue to use it in gaming mode after saving it there.
Original comment:
This guide is excellent, but my major problem I’m having is that none of my progress is saving after I close the game. Oddly, when I re-open, it has two game files on the main menu, one with 1 minute or so of progress and the other 10 minutes. But both start the games opening cutscene at station square before Chaos 1 fight.
Is there any advice?
You forgot the 2004 PC version :(
DX went from Gamecube -> PC -> 360/PS3 -> Steam
For some reason I get wierd framepacing/ stutter issues on steam deck with this game
Does the lantern engine mood still work? I was wondering because of the compatibility issue with the d3d8 driver saying it wont work without the d3d8.dll
It may have been months, but it's still worth mentioning.
The Steam Deck sort of ignores the .dll file, so you have to manually tell it to load it. This is done by going to the game's Properties and adding this to Launch Options :
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8.dll=n,b" %command%
Out of curiosity, will these steps also work for SA2 and its mod loader?
i want the steam deck for this sole purpose. to play retro games.
So after the initial install when loading in gaming mode for the first time. Can we just launch the game directly afterwards?
So even though it says unsupported? It still works?
Yup
During installation, it keeps saying SADX 2004 EXE has either failed to download or has the incorrect checksum. I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling and changing internet connections but nothing works. Any ideas??
I have an issue, the install worked well, but the lantern engine says it’s missing a DLL file? I checked the directory and it’s there
I can't install the .net framework with SADX. It works with other games, but when I try it for SADX, I get an error saying it's not compatible with my operating system. Can anyone help?
Whenever I try to download the mod loader, it keeps telling me that .NET framework and Visual C++ 2019 is missing. How do I fix this?
I have a question about the mod does it Run/work in gaming mode as well or do I have to soloey play it in desktop mode?
You can run this in play mode
Actually, the PC port came out in 2004 before the Xbox 360 or PS3 came out. The Steam version came out later.
I followed the steps exactly how you did it, but my fmv’s work fine? was there an update or something?
There may have been. I think a new version of proton fixed the cutscenes.
I followed the video step by step and when I loaded the mod manager, it just freezes I can't even use the trackpad let alone click on the mods I want loaded.
hold the steam button while using the trackpad, that might be your problem
Wouldn’t the definitive way be to just use a Dreamcast emulator that draws extra geometry that gives you true 16x9 widescreen? Not stretched
I was just about to say the same thing because their are some texture difference between the Dreamcast and all the other versions.
No. This is the true definitive version. It has everything the dreamcast version has thanks to the Dreamcast conversion mod as well as arbitrary resolution support so no stretching. Plus you get 60fps.
@@crestofhonor2349 OH ok I forgot about that mod.
There's a few reasons why this is a more definitive experience. Gameplay on the Dreamcast version is locked to 30FPS, while the PC version with the Dreamcast Conversion mod runs at 60FPS. In addition to this, there was DLC in the Dreamcast version that was region-locked. With mods on the PC version you can experience all of it without having to use multiple copies of the game. There's also a huge modding community for this version of the game.
@@PercyPanleo Yeah I am going to have to check this out.
You forgot about a portception layer, the original pc port
So it would be,
Dreamcats, GameCube, PC(original), Xbox/ps3, PC(steam)
Even more ridiculous
Can’t believe I forgot about the original pc port. This was how I first played sa1
Man, I miss the Dreamcats, it was my favorite feline console
@@ThisisTheUltimate bro same.
Dreamcats 😆

hello stranger
My game data didn't save, despite playing all the stories in a single sitting

I get to 6:17 and then mt stream deck freeze and mouse icon won't move
Hold steam button then you should be able to move the mouse
thanks
You're welcome!
.steam isn't appearing for me, what am I supposed to do?
Don't know how to manually type it in or where I'm supposed to type it in.
Does this disable achievements?
Nope!
I followed the guide, but when I launch the game, it just crashes
Try going to the game's properties, scroll down to launch options and write this :
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8.dll=n,b" %command%
Can you mod emulator games
Do I have to buy sonic adventure
yeah sadly, tried another way but its impossible, i bought the key from g2a for 3 bucks so get it there if u can
Yes, it's like 10 bucks on steam, it's not bad
@@SilvieSteam yeah your right but one problem I DONT HAVE MONEY
@@jacobwright3171 wait for when the game becomes $1 or $2 for sale on steam
personally, regardless of the platform I'd prefer to play SA1 and 2 on ReDream/Reicast over the native port, even with mods. Sure, emulation isn't perfect, but SADX is such a shitty port that I'd rather just deal with any emulation bugs instead of the plethora that were introduced with DX and then compounded more and more every time this god forsaken game was ported. The Dreamcast Conversion mod and all of the community fixes for SADX are genuinely really impressive considering the dog turd they had to start off with, but there's still so many little things that are just better in the Dreamcast version.
What's better in the Dreamcast version?
@@SSpeedyCarter the visuals, the fact the game isn’t a buggy mess, the animations, the textures, the audio, pretty much everything
@@lucymorrison When was the last time you installed The dreamcast conversion?
@@SSpeedyCarter last month
