Was on a business call the other day to an art curator in NY and she was talking to me from outside a coffee shop, OMG soooo much background noise.....felt like she was calling me from the back of an ambulance😂 also......like you said....So important to dig the neighborhood first ....then your apt. Long Island City or Astoria can be 20 mins from midtown by subway, depending on where you are exactly. 30 mins would be a more realistic average from NW Queens

A landlord asking you to pay last month up front is ILLEGAL in NYC btw. Only first, security and brokers is legal.
