Heat of your hand Stirling Engine

  • This ultra low temperature-differential Stirling Engine will actually run on the heat of your hand! Place this beautiful precision engine on any warm surface and within a few minutes it's chugging away. The engine runs whenever the temperatures of the top and bottom plates differ by more than about 10 degrees Celsius. Its upper black aluminum plate actually absorbs enough heat in direct sunshine to run on solar power. You can also try a cup of hot coffee, or even your computer monitor! By placing the engine on some ice cubes, it is even possible to drive the engine by the heat of the surrounding air in the room.
    This is a great thermodynamic demonstration of air pressure change due to alternate heating and cooling. The main chamber has perspex sides, which allow you to see what is happening inside. When the large foam displacer (it is not a piston) moves up, the air is then in contact with the lower (warmer) plate, and the air expands. This drives the small piston in the centre of the top plate upwards. The displacer then moves down, causing the air to now be in contact with the upper (colder) plate. The air now cools and contracts, which causes the small piston to move down. As long as there is a temperature differential of over 10 degrees, your Stirling Engine will keep going!
    This is not a kit - it comes fully assembled and ready to go.

      FuckYouGooglePlus Actually the generator takes chemical energy, converts it into mechanical energy, then into electric energy. Then the electric fan would convert the electric energy back to mechanical energy. A combustion engine connected to a fan would only need to convert from chemical to mechanical. Theoretically, it should be more efficient than using a gas generator.

    Is nobody realising the fact this works and is powered by cold environments is revolutionary?! You could have a space craft powered by the coldness of outer space alone... literally making it an endless battery with no need for a generator or sunlight etc... this could literally change the entire world. why tf is nobody talking about this?! This is what weve all been waiting for. Reliable free energy with absolutely zero fuel needed and no waste products. This is in my opinion is the most impressive technology I've ever seen. Hands down. Anybody who says otherwise clearly doesn't understand the science behind this

    • @thegreatzoom5073
      @thegreatzoom5073 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's so little energy in the rotating flywheel that you couldn't do anything meaningful. As soon as a load is introduced the wheel would stop and the engine would stall. It's like static electricity generating thousands of volts, there's just not enough actual energy in the system to get appreciable current to work with. Also, the whole system only works because there's heat being transferred. If you took this out into space it would need a constant source of heat, which makes it a finite source again.

      Please explain why.

      Jeff O put that thing on a warm surface like the bottom of a chair and voila the heat of someone sitting on the chair will make that thing go

    • @jeffo9396
      @jeffo9396 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      However, it's not perpetual energy. It's simply a transference of energy; in this case, heat transferring from one's hand to the engine. Take it off your hand, and the engine stops. And it takes energy to create heat.
      Perpetual motion (not energy) would be like something spinning in outer space. It'll keep spinning unless it comes into contact with something else. So far, we don't know of any perpetual "energy" machines. Such a device would be overunity/free energy.

    I wonder how much power you could get out of a large stirling engine using a method of focusing sunlight. Probably wouldn't beat solar panels in the amount of space used per watt of power I imagine but who knows

      Tuphan Hamal
      I re-read the wikipedia article on stirling engines. I rememberd incorrectly something in it.
      If you attatch a motor, and run the stirling motor, it will create heat on one side and cold on the other. Or rather, pump heat from one side to the other. Like an electric motor forced to run will work as a generator for electricity.

  • @eirvine
    @eirvine 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You could just have a difference in materials between to top and bottom plate. For instance if the bottom plate absorbed heat at a higher rate than the top plate it may work if the engineering was advanced enough. Also if the flywheel was fitted with fan blades the act of air movement across the top plate might act as a bit of cooling, accelerating the process.
