    An amazing place that really hasn’t changed in the 45 years I have been going there. Glad you pointed out that the wind can really kick up there in the afternoon and make paddling difficult without a lot of confidence and experience. Your kids will cherish the memories like I do and my now adult kids do too. If watchers of this video want to stay at the resort book a year in advance.

      Good tip on the resort! I haven't stayed there yet, but seems like it would be a fun time.

    Great video Mark - very well produced and edited. Looked like an amazing trip with the family. So crazy how the deer just casually strolled through your camp!

    I am researching a camping paddling trip for 2025. Ross lake looking interesting no portages. This fall we head to BWCA and lots of portages.

    • @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker
      @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is one portage from diablo to ross, but the truck takes you over the hill so it’s easy. You do need to bring cash. Love BWCA!

    Great video. I'm trying to figure out how y'all got back to Colonial Creek? Park at Colonial. Paddle to the dock. Get portage to Ross Lake. Enjoy time. Paddle back to Ross lake dock, call for portage. Then paddle back to Colonial? How did you call for portage ? Thank you

    • @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker
      @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker  ปีที่แล้ว

      We put it in at colonial, paddle to the portage, there is a phone there you call the lodge, then they take you up to ross. And then the reverse when you come back

    Loved your video! Doing a trip to Ross with kids late summer and this is a great motivator for them. Hope the fish will still be biting in August.

      Good luck! I found them all close to shore. Trolling seems to work great or just fishing off of points.

    what a great video! my fiancé and I are hoping for permits this summer. this makes me even more excited for the trip if we get the permits!

    • @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker
      @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Good luck on the permits. One thing I didn't mention in the video is that if you can drive up and be first one in the lot, you have a good chance of getting a permit, the trick is being flexible in where you are going to stay and I think you can only get your permits 2 days in advance of your trip. -Mark

    Awesome video! What kind of fishing line and lures did you use?

    • @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker
      @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Small spoons worked but streamers worked the best for me. The fly is called sculpzilla. Tan seemed to be a good color. I also used a full sinking line while trolling and just a floating line while fishing from shore.

    Outstanding film and great ideas for the lake! I have been thinking about doing this trip with my family for a long time.
    How do you like the Clipper canoes? I was thinking of getting a Clipper Mac Sport 16.5 someday for canoe trips like this one.

    • @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker
      @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love our clipper! They some sweet boats. But there are some other good boats out there too. We really enjoyed the wenonah Minnesota’s when we did the boundary water (I did a video on that too).

      What was the length of the Clipper you used on the Ross Lake Trip? 18 ft? 20 ft? Love your story telling and beautiful family.

    • @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker
      @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pcheng21 Yeah both clippers are 18'. Though ours is a kevlar layup and the white clipper is fiberglass.

    Hi, I’m going to Ross lake next week and I’m not sure what rod, reel, and lures I should buy. I’m completely new to fishing so I also need to buy items like a net and pocket knife. I can give me links to what supplies you used? Thanks. Also, when buying a fishing permit, do I just need to get a freshwater one?

      @@TheFlyFishingFilmmaker I'm going in a week, would love to hear what you used. I'm a beginner too. I was thinking a 6 pound line and then a spoon (or spinner per your suggestion). Do you need a swivel or dodger? How deep are you casting? I'm renting a motorboat and may fish from shore. Thanks!

    • @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker
      @TheFlyFishingFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@carlc1638 6lb should be good for any of the fish in there. I was most successful using streamers (flies) but I think a spoon would work great too. Swivels would be good for reducing line twist, I don't think doger is neccasary. But maybe some small weights to help keep the lure down. They were super close to shore and I wasn't fishing that deep. Make sure to throw back any bulltrout. Good luck let me know how you do!
