Hello I love your videos and I love everything you make. One thing I was hoping you would made is maybe some stuff from a game called dauntless it's a fun game you should check it out it's also free. Love you videos! 😜🤗❤️
Bill! for crisper edges when you paint on masking tape, mask off your area and then apply the base color that you used under the tape as your first layer. This will "Seal" the edge and the bleed will not show as its the under color already and then use whatever color after that. Perfect lines every single time.
This is one of only like 5 35+ min TH-cam videos that I've ever watched - love watching you build, Bill! Your humor and personality make these things look so easy :D :D :D
This seems like it would be a great first-time project for someone who hasn't worked with foam or paint that much. Plus, you get a GREAT prop when you are done! Great job, as usual!
My heart broke just a little when the egg got glued in lopsided since you took so much time making sure it was perfect. Still, the nuke turned out fantastic!
Man, can I just say how much I enjoy these videos. Your attention to detail and taking your time on each and every part. The "real time" build and not just a 5 minute montage with a song overlay. Perfect length to watch on my commute to work lol. Please don't ever stop doing these! Also that "Hands like a surgeon!" got me crackin up! I swear I heard that (or something like that) on a show somewhere and I can't for the life of me remember where LOL Great job as always!
Just a suggestion about masking, that I learned painting houses. If after you mask, you paint around the mask with the original base color, the bleed will be in the base color and will seal the tape line. Then you come back with the color you want, and when you pull the mask off, the lines are super crisp. Jim
Greetings once again Bill and Britt! Might I say I was very excited for this video! I'm a big Fallout fan! Always love what you guys are doing over at Punished Props and keep up the amazing videos!!!!
I absolutely loved this build! In the future, I would personally wonder about the logistics of the rust though, in regards to the screws: When metal rusts, usually there's a fair amount underneath that's rusted too, and would require a lot of treatment in order to bring back the metallic steel color you see in the screws at the end. So I think that making the screws completely rust-colored would add that little extra touch to complement the rusted paint finish. All the same, excellent job! A wonderful recreation.
Love your work bill as a photographer I use a lot of props and I've been starting to make my own lately after watching your videos so keep up the good work.
when you were messing up the screws to make them look less shiny it reminded me of a tip I once got from a friend about hardware weathering, if you wanted them kinda more tarnished then you could have put them in a super hot oven for a while then quenched them, or you could have dunked them in some hydrochloric acid provided they aren't galvanized or plated or whatever. Apart from that the build was awesome. i liked that the wash made it look like the flat head bits in the screws had filled with grease and dirt.
Seeing as how I watch these videos every week and love every one of them, I should probably try foam building some day lol That mini nuke turned out amazing
USA, China and Russia can bring Fallout to life even better in only 10 minutes ;-) It will be more realistic and more radiative ;-) ps. nice Props and nice techniques!
Question have you thought about using some kind of foam or something to fill the hollow props so there not as easy to flattened... just a thought...plus it could give a little weight to it.
So I was just watching this build and its so awesome! I was thinking, instead of cutting the divot lines in the top of the nuke maybe use the V-shaped mini file and just trace into it the long way, would make for a more even v groove I think. I love your channel man, so much inspiration!

This would make an awesome piece on a shelf. Then, if you add a tilt switch with a nice recorded audio track, it will be an awesome conversation starter every time you leave a Fallout fan alone in the office for a few minutes. Thanks for sharing, Bill!
I'm planning to make my first foam project soon, a Bajoran phaser from Star Trek Deep Space 9. Definitely going to have to get some ModPodge and check out Plaid's supplies!

None of us here ever use contact cement due to lacj of patience. None of us have even ever used or heard of Mod Podge before. Luckily, im an adventurous Filipino. :)
Hey did you know the mini nuke is actually based on a real life project that’s we did but it was shut down cause I don’t really remember it’s probably just didn’t meat the expectation
Quick tip, and a question; whenever you need 8 equal(ish) measurements on a line, if you can make a tape or paper strip (like you did in this video) fold it in half. Fold that in half. Fold that in half. 3 totals folding in half’s, BOOM 8 equal(ish) segments, including the joint. 1 fold is w segments. 2 folds is 4 segments. 3 folds is 8 segments. Question part, you keep using that black pipe and calling it PVC, is it black PVC or is ABS? They both work similarly, but differently (PVC is much more brittle than ABS), looking at how it cuts and sands I would think it’s ABS, but I don’t know what mats you have access to (I just today found out they make PVC tubes for crafts in damn near any color!). Keep up the awesome projects! The kids and I love them.
Great video - just happened to be looking for how to make a dummy bomb. Now I just have to figure out to be able to screw open/close the finished piece so I can insert some digital electronics inside to control some blinking lights/sounds & such - and be able to make the occasional mod/repair/battery replacement to the circuit. Thanks much.
A paint tip that I found out recently for paint tape bleed. If you use a clear coat matte after you tape, it seals up the edges enough that it won't bleed. Cheers!
I love sealing with Mod Podge, and one technique that I picked up from the Black Magic Craft channel is to use tinted Mod Podge so I can see where I've brushed it already, plus it gives you an extra layer of primer. I use india ink to tint my Mod Podge. Several drops in a resealable cup go a long way in the Mod Podge.
that mini nuke on the pipe reminded me of the egg wand the sorceress uses in on of the old spyro the dragon games when you were waving it around theres another use for the egg pattern
Loved the music for the montage stuff, should use it again in the future. Loved this and even though I don’t play fallout, might try and make this for a friend
@@thebeybladearmory most 3D printed stuff I've seen still looks horribly ragged. It's a useful technique, but hardly the be-all and end-all of prop making. Besides, it takes quite a different skill set to 3D model something compared to doing a great paintjob, which is what sells this project. I wouldn't pay 150 for either the foam OR 3D printed version though. Unless you need to buy all the paints and tools still, the materials are pocket-change level. Again, the only thing making this difficult and therefore expensive, is the skill of the painter. I'd rather have a go at making it myself than spending a ton of money to buy some instant gratification, that'll only last a few days.

I know it's been a while, but I'd love to see what you do with one of the craft foam eggs that Walmart stocks in their Easter department. @@punishedprops I can't take credit for it, but it's too good to keep to myself
@@punishedprops oh, and it also works great for really long or complicated seams
Some cool tricks for measurements and angles. Very clever. Who doesn't wan't a mini-nuke?
what if you used a semi-flex primer beforehand and sanded it down? Then you wouldn't see the glue seams
It really depends on the primer. Foam seams are their own beast and are dealt with differently depending on the project. Foam clay is another great option for filling in foam seams!
The tube in the drill is some 2000 IQ hole punching
If I remember correctly, Adam Savage showed you the metal edged rulers on his shop when you visited to make that foam glove. :)
Probably! Adam has all the best tools
@@punishedprops Doesn't he? It's like a candy store for nerds! I want to live there. lol I honestly wonder how long it would take to look at every item he owns and catalog it. 2 years?
Again I must say....great job! I need a bit of info. I'd like to put an "anti-magnetic" paint coat on the little guy. I'd need some kind of super-mega fine sand or some other similar micro-bumpy material. Any suggestions? Thanks
I don't know if something like that exists.
I know it's been a while, but I'd love to see what you do with one of the craft foam eggs that Walmart stocks in their Easter department. I grabbed a couple last season to try Mini Nukes but haven't gotten to it yet - go check your local seasonal area and see if they've got them. Would make things like heat-gun puckering a breeze because there's no seams.
Neat suggestion!
freaking awesome!, looks 1000 times better than a dumb toy a store was calling a collectable
