      Yeah man. He's the perfect podcaster. Nobody's seen more of the world, the rock'n'roll lifestyle and the music business than him, and he's alive and healthy enough to make sense of it. • @toobnoobify
      @toobnoobify 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@prometheustv6558 In the early 2000s, when the world was drastically changing due to things like digital media and the internet, the recording industry had 2 choices:
      1) Update their business model for the digital age
      2) Change nothing and instead hire an army of lawyers to wage a campaign of fear and promote censorship on the internet
      The recording industry (RIAA), a bunch of corporate goons who built an empire off the backs of artists for decades, chose option 2. And Metallica (multi-millionaires), happily volunteered to become their corporate spokesmen.
      The first person these brave corporate whores went after was Brianna Lahara, a 12 year-old girl from NY who lives in public housing. But don't fret, Metallica and the RIAA put that unscrupulous girl in her place with a lawsuit with which the family settled. And her parents were made to publicly apologize for their daughter's crimes against humanity.
      Contrast the music industry with the video game industry who took option 1 and embraced technology. They produced online games like World of Warcraft, that was released in 2004 and still has millions of users every day. They spawned platforms like Steam that provided free services in exchange for DRM.
      It should be notes that part of this music industry fear campaign includes being one of the biggest lobbyists against net neutrality.
      Don't think Lars Ulrich is some champion of young artists. A free internet has done more for music in 20 years than the RIAA has done in history. In spite of the aggressive and litigious campaigns by the music industry, the internet has allowed thousands of amateur musicians to not only self-publish their music and launch their careers, but to make a decent living off their art on platforms like TH-cam. Not to minimize the contribution of the RIAA of course, who brought us great things like... boy-bands.

    • @prometheustv6558
      @prometheustv6558 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@toobnoobify Yeah because they actually make money off of streaming, Napster gives no profit to the artist and it leaks music before the artist can release it themselves. And streaming platforms have actually made it harder for artists to earn a living.
