I can't believe this video is finally 10 years old. I remember watching this video for the first time at the end of 2009, when i was still in 5th grade. At the time I didn't know the real reasons why a lot of my favorite cartoons had ended/canceled and why cartoon network had changed so drastically. From my experience I wasn't old enough to really understand what had been going on with Cartoon Network nor did any of my friends in school. Thanks to this video back then I learned the real reasons why cartoon network went down the drain during that time. Also, if it wasn't for this video, I wouldn't found my love for buckethead.
I'm watching this and I have to agree. CN is dying, Nickelodeon is dying AND Disney Channel is dying... Honestly, my three favorite childhood channels have completely gone to shit, but there have been quite a few shows that I liked (Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, etc.)
This video came out during a period where it felt like Cartoon Network had no hope. I remember watching this video when it first came out, and all of us as a community had also lost hope that Cartoon Network would get any better. Sadly not long after this video was released, “CN Real” would premiere and make things even worse. Thankfully, almost like a knight in shining armor, Adventure Time would bring the Cartoon Renaissance, and other cartoons like Regular Show and Amazing World of Gumball along with it. Here we are now in 2020, and many cartoons from the early 2010’s are now gone, but at the very least, this isn’t as bad CN in 2009. Although that dark period might be over, I still love to come back to this video every now and then, not only to how times have changed, but also because this video is so damn amazing. Thank you Ungiver for this video from a dark time in history.
You think because of adventure time and regular show cartoon netowrk would scrap their live action shows by 2010 right? Wrong they still continued to shit out live action shows even after the death of Cn real think I’m digging too deep here’s proof Destroy Build Destroy (why is a musician as good as Andrew W.K. in this??) and Dude, What Would Happen? ran from 2009 all the way to 2011. It sucked even when it used to air on the Fox Network, and it STILL sucked when it moved to Cartoon Network!! This show lasted until 2012. Cartoon Network's answer to So Random!. Need I remind you that Adventure Time's Jeremy Shada was in this incredibly bad trainwreck?? No, I'm not making that part up. This lasted until 2013. THE NAME OF THE CHANNEL IS CARTOON NETWORK!!!!! Remember Cartoon Network's SlamBall??!! They gave us the NBA's Run It Back!! Not too bad of a sports program, but why was it on Cartoon Network??!! I love the 1939 Wizard of Oz, BUT NOT WHEN IT'S ON CARTOON NETWORK!!!! They still aired live-action movies during that time!! I miss Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theater, because that hasn't been around since February 2007!! Yeah, "scrap the live-action shows altogether by 2010" my ass!! Thankfully, they stopped their live-action crap by the time Stuart Snyder left. But even that didn't make Cartoon Network any better. Now they end at 8pm instead of 10pm, most of the time you’d see endless TTG and gumball, and the new look for boomerang. Adult swim should become its own channel detached from Cartoon Network completely.
I actually remember watching this video when it was still fresh and relevant. My nine-year-old self was blown away by this video and all of the valid arguments it presented; 2009 was indeed an atrocious year for Cartoon Network. Watching it today, I laugh at it almost every time considering how much of a phenomenal change Cartoon Network has made in the last six years. The network has shocked the hell out of me with it's recent revival, but I can now proudly say that CN is my favorite family-oriented network. This video *desperately* needs an update; it is incredibly irrelevant today.
although it has great shows today like Steven Universe, Adventure Time and Regular Show...... That's pretty much it. Along with really shitty shows like Uncle Grandpa and the reboot for Powerpuff Girls and Teen Titans Go,(although not as bad as the ones above, still not good in general.) and to top it off with a REALLY shitty schedule considering the 3 best shows hardly get any air time anymore. (especially Adventure Time and Regular Show) And it just shows little to no variety with CN just rotating 3-4 shitty rarely good shows for the whole day and occasionally dropping a shitty movie no one cares about. Same exact thing is happening to Boomerang. So yes this video or the fact that CN is no longer what it used to be and is basically not that good anymore is STILL valid. But I hope that changes soon.
The shows on South East Asian (In this case Thai CN) were pretty limited and we didn't get many shows that are good like US channel did now, they even felt the need to buy some Japanese anime just to make the channel appealing but it's losing battle since many free TV in my country already have anime shows in their channels. Good thing we have two separate channels dedicated to old Cartoon Network shows,Toonami and Boomerang both are now bought and run by Thai company. Cartoon Network I knew and loved had it last hurrah around 2007 and it all downhill from that point on.
***** in all honesty, I'm not too fond of Clarence or We Bare Bears, but of course Adventure Time, Regular Show(or as I like to call it "Irregular Show), Gumball, and Stephen Universe aren't all that bad
If I ever become a billionaire, I would buy cartoon network and add a 90's day during the week adding all the old cartoon network shows maybe even twice a week. I wish I could go back in time. : (
You know how many times they've done that though? It's not enough. They need to make it a part of the schedule. Every couple of months they need to bring back 5 to 6 of their old 90s cartoons. Jan - March/Apr - Jun and so on and so forth.
All this nostalgia at once is too much for someone who grew up with most of these shows to handle. It honestly feels like someone's punching me in the heart and draining all the happiness away from me.
This was as good as a cartoon network doccumentary could get during the early years of youtube. These older videos have a simple charm to them, a more casual feel that makes them interesting in a time capsule kind of way
***** I was born in the mid 90's. I grew up watching Tom & Jerry, a bit of Popeye, Justice League, Teen Titans, Bugs Bunny, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, Dexter's Lab, Dragon Ball Z, etc. :p
I get you man it's a new gen of kids we enjoyed are generation of great cartoons time to let the new kids enjoye there's wen these kids shows end thay will look back on it just like we did with shows like Ed Ed & eddy a cartoon can't last forever it's part of change and wall Chang can be hard we all get through it besides CN still has good shows like Steven universe regular show adventure time
I agree. By 2010 CN got their shit together by making cartoons again. But the damage has already been done, many cartoon creators moved on, and made other shows for different companies, boomerang Rebranded into an atrocious logo in January 2015, they still aired live action shows up until 2014, the lost the rights to Pokémon, now adult swim starts at 8pm instead of 10pm. AND, by not putting faith in some of their better shows in creators they would air TTG, and Johnny test, all the damn time.!
Homeboy needs to make an update video lol. But yeah CN was awful from '07-'10. Mid 2010 is when they got their shit together, started getting rid of the Live Action shit and introducing better Bumpers and Shows. Granted today it isn't as good as the golden years '97-'04 its def better than the CN Real Era of shit -
+sXeJerichoHolic I am glad to be one of the last people to grow up in the golden years. I was born in the late 90s, so my early childhood was the golden years of Cartoon Network and the other networks. I miss them, and it is a shame that no one else will be able to experience the golden years. I was one of the last. My 6 year old Brother never gets to experience it.
Nott Joey I lived the same era you did bruh, but we all got to move on and the Network has to move on do better stuff. It's not all bad but yeah it doesn't touch the golden era. As for your bro I mean you can just show him old shows and what not that's why we got Netflix lol.
sXeJerichoHolic Cartoon Network is doing the best of all three main networks right now. I still watch and love Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and Regular Show. Cartoon Network isn't as good as the golden era, but they are still doing well (Adult Swim also helps). Cartoon Network has always been the best of the three, and that still hasn't changed. And with my Brother, I am letting him watch stuff from then. Half the stuff he says is dumb, but he likes things like Foster's and Danny Phantom.
honestly i want to see a revival of the cartoon network city era like one big important thing about that era is that both old cartoons and new coexisted you could have like, the red guy from cow and chicken talking to raj from camp lazlo and nobody would bat an eye i want to see that now, especially given the locations of the new shows, like i don't know about you guys but i personally would like to see double d and samurai jack at the big donut from steven universe or darwin and billy muck about in malph's or something just a thought
ma'am* to be honest though, that wouldn't seem out of probability, especially since cartoon network has done something similar in 2012 for their 20th anniversary
+Finley Michaels Best idea, they take cartoon shows from each era, and line them up in such a way that its a new spin. A mix of old, older, and recently old
From time to time, CN and the entire Turner networks have a ownership changes such as American On-Line's (AOL) acquisition of Time Warner in 2000 until AOL spun off from Time Warner in 2009, then AT&T's acquisition of Time Warner (which later renamed to WarnerMedia) in 2018, and later by 2022, WarnerMedia spun off from AT&T and merged with Discovery to form Warner Bros. Discovery.
What you have here is two generations of Cartoon Network kids here. The ones that grew up on Invader Zim, Courage, Ed Edd and Eddy, Kids Next Door, Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab and etc... And then you have the ones that grew up during the advent of The Regular Show and Fosters Home, and everything else from the mid 2000's onward.
I’m watching this now in 2024 knowing that Cartoon Network had a rise around 2011 with Adventure Time and Regular show. Then, witnessed their downfall this year with their Main Studio shutting down after Warner Bros Time Warner losing Millions. It’s crazy how 2008 to 2010 use to be their worst.
The CN city bumps would be cool to bring back, especially with new characters from shows of adventure time, regular show, amazing world of gumball, Clarence and the list goes on. Of course it wouldn't be cannon to the shows, it would just be a cool thing to bring back.
I stopped watching Cartoon Network around 2006/07. I remember hating the new shows that were coming on, plus I was getting older, too old to even watch cartoons anymore. This video really brought me back in time, thanks for uploading! Its unbelievable how much the world changed in such a short amount of time. The '90s and early '00s really wasn't too long ago, but it feels so far away now.
I agree that Cartoon Network or CN, as its also known has turned into mindless garbage. What needs to happen is a replacement of leadership, they are the ones that approve of this garbage. It isn't just Cartoon Network, the whole industry needs new people and ideas. Yeah it would be nice to watch your favorite old shows all the time, but thats not going to get us anywhere. A standard for programming needs to be established so that this crap can never be made again. But.... thats just me.
I come back to this video ever now and then. Something about the editing on how my childhood cartoon channel ended for me. I’m 24 and saw this video when I was around 10
I think Cartoon Networks life line would be 1992 - 2008. The reason I say 2008 is because that's when Toonami was takin off the air, one of the few things keeping Cartoon Network alive.
Well Toonami is back. but only on Adult Swim. XP So they are showing the more adult anime. Which is awesome. The current line-up tht i can remember is Bleach(two episodes left), Attack on Titan(2 episodes left), One Piece, Ghost in the Shell, Naruto, Naruto shippuden, Space Dandy, Fullmetal alchemist: Brotherhood, Hellsing Ultimate, Cowboy Bebop, Big-O and one old cartoon network show which is Samurai Jack.
Also Cartoon Network In 1997 Got Undertaker To Do Toonami Undertaker: Welcome To Toonami I'm The Host With The Most The Bombastic, Charismatic Sometimes Dimwitted Undertaker
I remember watching Cartoon Network (old logo) and then all of a sudden I see "CN" on the screen and I'm like "The fuck is this?" so I watched the downfall of CARTOON NETWORK before my very eyes. It was an Easter Sunday. That's when I lost hope for Cartoon Network and resumed watching Nickelodeon until THEY fucked up in 2009. I watched the splat turn into just orange letters spelling "Nickelodeon". It changed when the Worldwide Day of Play ended at 3pm in i believe September of 2009 and the logo was changed. So I watched Nickelodeon's downfall as well..... I guess I'm just bad luck....
SuperNickBowser LOL! When I first saw that "CN" logo change I said the same thing. And now, the orange nick logo is just boring white text. Yep, Nickelodeon got worse from here...
The background music!! For those wondering the first half of the video - the song is Machete by Buckethead, second half its Ghost by Buckethead. Amazing guitar player Buckethead!!
I was born in '92 and to me the '97-'04 years were by far the best. Cartoon Cartoon Fridays were what really hooked me. I absolutely loved Cow And Chikin, Ed, Edd, and Eddy, Dexter's Lab, Courage, I Am Weasel, Johnny Bravo, and Powerpuff Girls. Add in that to the Toonami after school programming with DragonBall Z, Gundam, and others and the whole thing was awesome. Not to mention the Adult Swim programming was so original and cool. My generation pretty much grew up on that stuff. It's a shame the network became so terrible, but it's getting much better lately. I still don't watch the normal cartoons like I used to because I'm too old but at least they've added cartoons in the same mold as those older ones they used to show.
I remembered watching this video 8 Years ago back in 2013 and believe me that video gave me nightmares mostly the music did but looking back on it I feel so much nostalgic watching this video.
Wow this was like one of the first examples of the “Analysis” type videos I can find. I’m sure there’s tons of ones older than this, but this specific editing style and the way it’s written is very reminiscent of modern analysis videos. Very surreal to see. Also I find it hilarious that people were saying CN was on a downfall 12 years ago so I wonder what that says about CN nowadays. We should have seen the dark times coming and this was their warning
We should have listened to this guy. Look how bad Cartoon Network got in the years FOLLOWING this video. Adult Swim went from 10PM to 8PM, a bunch of premiere nights faded, and we're on the verge of an Adventure Time and Regular Show cancellation. Where Cartoon Network will be by 2020 is anyone's guess. The network went downhill, and is still going downhill today.
This is a fascinating timecapsule of the opinion of viewers of CN prior to Adventure Time, SU, etc. We know CN is better now, but in 2007-2010 it was considered hopeless
To all the people complaining that the network is dying and it sucks now, keep in mind that the video is almost a decade old (I should know, I saw it first when I was in the 3rd grade and now I'm in college) and predates adventure time and regular show; sure, maybe its mainly just teen titans go, but it can always make a comeback
12 years later, I revisited to this video, because of cartoon network bringing back live action shows. I guess some never change after all. Edit: 10/12/2024: Farewell to the website.
The Golden Age of Cartoon Network was from 1997 to 2005 with the two most popular and iconic eras occuring here: the Powerhouse and CN City era. Adventure and Regular Show are good shows, but the identity of classic Cartoon Network was never recovered from the Dark Age (Fall 2007-early 2010).
Checkerboard Era (1992-1996) - Meh Powerhouse Era (1996-2004) - Good City Era (2004-2006) - Great Yes! Era (2006-2008) - Okay Nood Era (2008-2010) - Good CHECK it 1.0 (2010-2011) - Good CHECK it 2.0 (2011-2012) - Okay CHECK it 3.0 (2012-2013) - Meh CHECK it 4.0 (2014-) - Bad
Do you all miss being children THAT much? I'm in your age group so I remember this shit like the back of my hand, but nothing killed your enjoyment of cartoons on Cartoon Network other than your own ongoing and forever changing tastes. Nothing lasts forever everyone. I say this with no malice or intent to shame any of you, but grow up, for you own sake. If you live in the past you're always going to be longing for those that days that can never be had again. Make new memories, I promise you'll have just as much fun as you did when you used to watch all your favorite shows from the week on Cartoon Cartoon Fridays.
Darude- Sandstorm Don't get me wrong, never stop being a kid; that's how we stay creative, empathetic, and maintain a zest for life, but false expectations always lead us to ruin.
I'm not sure if you will read this considering it's been like 9 years since you've commented this and have probably forgotten you've even said this but, THANK YOU! people especially back then were so quick to to hate on morden iterations of childhood networks just because they didn't grow up with it and while in some cases they did really fall off. (Like with nick) most off these just changed for the times. Except that and move on instead of just crying about it.
Though i was born in 2001 i still remember class of 3000, ed edd and eddy, courage the cowary dog, all the good shows. Then came 2010 the worst shows ever came on. Its really sad when CN cant even show episodes of old shows. R.I.P. Cartoon Network. 😫😫😫
I was born in 2001 not my preferred year but all I did was watch Ed Edd n Eddy, powerpuff girls, courage the cowardly dog, dexter lab and Fosters home for imaginary friends, I still do to this day and think how I wish I was born in 1995, every generation above 2002 sucks.
I wish a version of this was made every year from 2009. Especially with how Cartoon Network made a come back in the Early 2010s. This could have been a great series for us to observe.
Well Cartoon Network did pick back up in 2011, but it fell off again by 2014 and I don't think it's ever gonna be good again especially since TV itself is dying, I will always miss classic CN.
Samurai Jack was a high rated show AND it had a pretty good run- 4 years! Coincidentally when they got rid of THAT CN started to go downhill. Therefore, THAT should have been included! Thank you!
Keep in mind that during this time on the internet, everyone who grew up in the 90s as a kid were in a "90s kids" phase and most of them were ranting and shitting on new that cartoons that were airing during that time and saying that Cartoons today, in 2009, sucks compared to the ones in the 90s. Nowadays, everyone mocks of them for being close minded and arrogant. But honestly, Cartoon Network back in the late 2000s and early 2010s was a lot better then it is today in 2023.
@@GoneFishingAway Late 2000s CN was ass. There was so much misdirection and one of them was Toonami. Mind you, Toonami had one of the first online streaming services (Toonami Jet Stream) and they never put more capital into growing it, they were sitting on a gold mine and they didn't even know it.
@@NarutofightsHD1 Really? Well, they missed a huge opportunity for being the first anime streaming service, but I won't lie. The late 2000s for CN was pretty ass but the early 2010s really kicked off Cartoon Network.
@@GoneFishingAway They did justice in the Early 2010s with Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gumball, and Stevens Universe, but they didn't execute the mid to late 2010s. I still feel a certain way about them not giving Toonami its own network.
I honestly wasn’t the biggest fan of this vid because most of what this guy said was inaccurate and not well structured, but.... 2009 was indeed an atrocious year for CN but really 2017 was their absolute worst year ever
I think what caused Cartoon Network's 2006 - 2009 Dark Age was the movie Re-Animated. Cartoon Network saw the success of live actions series such as The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Drake and Josh so they tried to follow the same pattern by creating "classics" such as Out of Jimmy's Head and the CN Real shows (and they failed massively at that) since they got barely any support. Ending Toonami was also a pretty bad mistake from the channel.
Rest in peace old Cartoon network 10/1/1992-4/5/2015,you were once a great place to go for shows like Dexter's lab,Ed Edd n Eddy,Courage the cowardly dog,The Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy, and so many other great shows
Ed Edd N Eddy didn't come from What A Cartoon. It was the only one of the original eight not to be spawned from What A Cartoon or even Hanna-Barbera. It was produced by the Canadian studio AKA Cartoon. You all may know AKA Cartoon for that disturbing logo.
I find it incredibly hard to listen to what he's saying because this beat slaps harder than my Dad whenever I voice an opposing opinion in front of his "yes man" friends.
Okay I remember watching this video in like 4th or 5th grade and feeling ahead of my time because I realized and remembered how good Tv other than Cartoon Network was before they changed all of it. Now I’m 18 bouta graduate and thanks for providing 2 good songs that year (2011)
@@OttrPopAnimations Good actually lol. These last three years I’ve been working a lot due to the pandemic and never really went out. But a little after turning 21 I started doing more and had a great 2022
Even though Cartoon Network cancelled many great shows and was at a point of hitting rock bottom I'm glad they got their shit together in the last minute and began airing cartoons again. Lets be honest Regular Show and Adventure Time SAVED Cartoon Network and now they are airing more cartoons and are doing a great job.
Thing is, with CN back then they had a variety of shows to air and made it so unique and fun watching all these shows. Now they only show Teen Titans Go, Uncle Grandpa, Adventure Time, Gumball, and Regular Show. From CN standards that's only a small percentage from what they showed back then.
Sad to see your childhood die before your eyes
go to cartoon network feedback
Christopher Tyson CN ain't gonna do shit
Be awesome, pirate the original series and make them watch that instead, then. Don't let the retarded new shows make them stupider than you. Generations should grow, not degenerate...
Least you can watch some of it on different things. Hulu Netflix. Glad I can watch all the Pokemon episodes again if wanted.

Same for me. I saw it in 2010 when I was in 8th grade.
Right above your comment is one I left 10 years ago and I don't remember this at all
Holy shizz.. I feel old.. I remember watching the first episode of Foster's home for imaginary friends like it was yesterday.. Man.. now im 20.
You and I both. :'c
same
I'm 27. To me Fosters still feels new 😥 I remember when they still sold black and white TVs..
I remember Dexter's Laboratory, Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo, Two Stupid Dogs. Also, you're not old at all you little kid!
I'm only 14 years old and I remember watching all of those cartoons and I also feel damn old watching this!
They should have kept that 2004 CGI city thing, that was really cool
ikr
u mean reboot
+Hman72 Yes, ikr.
I know right
And other cartoons from modern day, that might be interesting.
Is it just me or is this video really depressing? =/
Ikr? He sounds really depressed.

2009 was an atrocious year for that block, but it was also the same year Michael Jackson died
Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gumball, Clarence, We Bare Bears, just to name a few. Those are all great shows.
***** in all honesty, I'm not too fond of Clarence or We Bare Bears, but of course Adventure Time, Regular Show(or as I like to call it "Irregular Show), Gumball, and Stephen Universe aren't all that bad
This is a very well made video for 2009. I remember watching it back then and thought the editing was something else.
99% of what this guy said was inaccurate and not well structured but yeah 2009 was a bad year for cn
I miss Ed Edd Eddy
Same
***** that's not the only reason why it turned bad that year, it's also the same year Michael Jackson died
Right man even i 2
I miss toonami
Child hood right there
If I ever become a billionaire, I would buy cartoon network and add a 90's day during the week adding all the old cartoon network shows maybe even twice a week. I wish I could go back in time. : (
go to cartoon network feedback
You know how many times they've done that though? It's not enough. They need to make it a part of the schedule. Every couple of months they need to bring back 5 to 6 of their old 90s cartoons. Jan - March/Apr - Jun and so on and so forth.
are you kidding me?
a 90s day? Hell I'd bring it all back, screw the new CN.
I Bet You Would Restore Cartoon Network To Their 1992 Glory Days
Have 90’s kids never heard of piracy
It'll never be the same without courage.
NickAB1 Bless You
All this nostalgia at once is too much for someone who grew up with most of these shows to handle. It honestly feels like someone's punching me in the heart and draining all the happiness away from me.
Just like a Dementor
Coprorate people are all dementors, especially bosses.
This was as good as a cartoon network doccumentary could get during the early years of youtube. These older videos have a simple charm to them, a more casual feel that makes them interesting in a time capsule kind of way
Anyone remember Class of 3000?
***** theres a few gems in the shit like regular show and adventuer time maybe gumball if you in the mood NOT TTG THAT SHIT JUST ADDED SHIT
*****
I was born in the mid 90's. I grew up watching Tom & Jerry, a bit of Popeye, Justice League, Teen Titans, Bugs Bunny, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, Dexter's Lab, Dragon Ball Z, etc. :p
*****
That's true
Yes
Hell yeah!
It's a new era. We have to be strong, and let it go. At least we got our memories✊
I feel you fam ✊
I get you man it's a new gen of kids we enjoyed are generation of great cartoons time to let the new kids enjoye there's wen these kids shows end thay will look back on it just like we did with shows like Ed Ed & eddy a cartoon can't last forever it's part of change and wall Chang can be hard we all get through it besides CN still has good shows like
Steven universe
regular show
adventure time
+Supreme ! I know that, but that is no reason to stop making high quality shows.
Yah! Fight the power✊🏽
Supreme ! Oh hell yeah
I like how people back in 2009 thought it was the end of CN but now it’s a lot worse
Granted today it isn't as good as the golden years '97-'04 its def better than the CN Real Era of shit
-
2008 was non-live action.
elijahmation tv Nah, they had live action shows that year.
Me watching this 13 years later
“If only you knew how bad things really are”
This aged, like, this REALLY aged.
Aged mostly well.
honestly i want to see a revival of the cartoon network city era
like
one big important thing about that era is that both old cartoons and new coexisted
you could have like, the red guy from cow and chicken talking to raj from camp lazlo and nobody would bat an eye
i want to see that now, especially given the locations of the new shows, like
i don't know about you guys but i personally would like to see double d and samurai jack at the big donut from steven universe or darwin and billy muck about in malph's or something
just a thought
Finley Michaels You sir, have just read my mind..
ma'am*
to be honest though, that wouldn't seem out of probability, especially since cartoon network has done something similar in 2012 for their 20th anniversary
Finley Michaels Or have Finn talk to Edd
+Finley Michaels Best idea, they take cartoon shows from each era, and line them up in such a way that its a new spin. A mix of old, older, and recently old
From time to time, CN and the entire Turner networks have a ownership changes such as American On-Line's (AOL) acquisition of Time Warner in 2000 until AOL spun off from Time Warner in 2009, then AT&T's acquisition of Time Warner (which later renamed to WarnerMedia) in 2018, and later by 2022, WarnerMedia spun off from AT&T and merged with Discovery to form Warner Bros. Discovery.
For a 2009 video. This is actually decently narrated and edited. I highly doubt this guy's on TH-cam anymore but if he is, good job :)
You Do Realize That Zim Is An Nickelodeon Character Right?
Classic Sonic
When you were a puppy, did you only stick to watching one single cartoon channel? You had favorite shows on each channel.
And the older generation is objectively superior ;;
How about an update? A lot has happened in 5 years
Where is my Old Cartoon Network =( !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This weirdly used to scare me as a kid
Same
I’m watching this now in 2024 knowing that Cartoon Network had a rise around 2011 with Adventure Time and Regular show. Then, witnessed their downfall this year with their Main Studio shutting down after Warner Bros Time Warner losing Millions.
It’s crazy how 2008 to 2010 use to be their worst.
Yeah, indeed.
I remember watching this video so many times when I was a kid. I dont know why I felt it so entertaining, whats the music used in this video?
The CN city bumps would be cool to bring back, especially with new characters from shows of adventure time, regular show, amazing world of gumball, Clarence and the list goes on. Of course it wouldn't be cannon to the shows, it would just be a cool thing to bring back.
I guess this was the first downfall video on TH-cam
I stopped watching Cartoon Network around 2006/07. I remember hating the new shows that were coming on, plus I was getting older, too old to even watch cartoons anymore. This video really brought me back in time, thanks for uploading! Its unbelievable how much the world changed in such a short amount of time. The '90s and early '00s really wasn't too long ago, but it feels so far away now.
this video itself makes me nostalgic.
i wish it was the 90s
Me too.
Chowder and Flapjack weren't bad. The problem was that ALOT of shows AND blocks got cut while they rose.
I think Cartoon Networks life line would be 1992 - 2008. The reason I say 2008 is because that's when Toonami was takin off the air, one of the few things keeping Cartoon Network alive.
agreed.
stockingandblossom1 there are a few gems that is BARLY keeping it alive like adventure time and regular show maybe gumball
Well Toonami is back. but only on Adult Swim. XP So they are showing the more adult anime. Which is awesome. The current line-up tht i can remember is Bleach(two episodes left), Attack on Titan(2 episodes left), One Piece, Ghost in the Shell, Naruto, Naruto shippuden, Space Dandy, Fullmetal alchemist: Brotherhood, Hellsing Ultimate, Cowboy Bebop, Big-O and one old cartoon network show which is Samurai Jack.
i say it died in 2014 thts when they started 2 spam ttgo
Also Cartoon Network In 1997 Got Undertaker To Do Toonami Undertaker: Welcome To Toonami I'm The Host With The Most The Bombastic, Charismatic Sometimes Dimwitted Undertaker
damn, this video is really almost a decade old now...
ikr craaazy
The rise, then downfall, then resurgence, then downfall again
Symbolic of life
I remember watching Cartoon Network (old logo) and then all of a sudden I see "CN" on the screen and I'm like "The fuck is this?" so I watched the downfall of CARTOON NETWORK before my very eyes.
+The Last Son of Pop Culture I watched it too
don't give up hope Bowser, I might be able to bring most of these shows back
SuperNickBowser LOL! When I first saw that "CN" logo change I said the same thing.
And now, the orange nick logo is just boring white text. Yep, Nickelodeon got worse from here...
I Was Thinking "What The Fuck Is This Shit?"
The music is made by buckethead, this video got me into him
I've got a comment on here from 2012 but no memory of watching this prior
Life lesson for cartoon network
You can never fix what was never broken
+The dedede network or broke what was good
Who else revisits this video every few years to compare to Cartoon Network today?
Wow this was like one of the first examples of the “Analysis” type videos I can find. I’m sure there’s tons of ones older than this, but this specific editing style and the way it’s written is very reminiscent of modern analysis videos. Very surreal to see. Also I find it hilarious that people were saying CN was on a downfall 12 years ago so I wonder what that says about CN nowadays. We should have seen the dark times coming and this was their warning
Ed Edd and eddy ended in 2009 with a really good TV movie finale
The show itself was cancelled 2007. Not sure how they made the movie 2 years after cancellation but it was the best way to end the series
The True downfall was CNReal.
WHAT lol why it was great
TheBlazinHeatran In my opinion, it sucks. In plus why would they name it Cartoon Network but u airing live-action shows.
Supreme ! Oh I thought u meant the Era where it was like everybody lived in the city but real was shit
Cn real is shit
What about ttg ?
This is a fascinating timecapsule of the opinion of viewers of CN prior to Adventure Time, SU, etc. We know CN is better now, but in 2007-2010 it was considered hopeless
Still can't believe they cancelled Megas XLR.
me too that show was AWESOME! that and samurai jack.
Oh yes it was so good! Cartoon Network nearly ruined my childhood by cancelling all the good shows :(
To all the people complaining that the network is dying and it sucks now, keep in mind that the video is almost a decade old (I should know, I saw it first when I was in the 3rd grade and now I'm in college) and predates adventure time and regular show; sure, maybe its mainly just teen titans go, but it can always make a comeback
it's hard to watch this without tears:((((
12 years later, I revisited to this video, because of cartoon network bringing back live action shows. I guess some never change after all.
Edit: 10/12/2024: Farewell to the website.
This was made just before the golden age of CN in 2010 and now it’s gone to shit again
Golden age my ass there were some good shows but i would call it silverage hahah
Checkerboard Era (1992-1996) - Meh
Powerhouse Era (1996-2004) - Good
City Era (2004-2006) - Great
Yes! Era (2006-2008) - Okay
Nood Era (2008-2010) - Good
CHECK it 1.0 (2010-2011) - Good
CHECK it 2.0 (2011-2012) - Okay
CHECK it 3.0 (2012-2013) - Meh
CHECK it 4.0 (2014-) - Bad
@Chris Vargas 1996 - 2004 more like fantastic. Haven't you forgot Courage cowardly dog, and ed edd and eddy
Meant to tag the other person
I miss Check It 1.0 - 2.0 so much:(
6:46
I wish Adult Swim can split from CN, because it's going to start at 6pm in September.
Little did he know that Cartoon Network's Renaissance Era would begin a year after this video was uploaded.
Two words: Uncle Grandpa
R.I.P Cartoon Network
+PBcombat93 Twelve words: The Amazing World of Gumball, Adventure Time, Regular Show and Steven Universe.
Cartoon Network ain't dead yet.
Teen Titans Go
I think Uncle Grandpa was inbred.
And then in 2010 CN once again back to their peak with Adventure Time and Regular show
This video needs an update
2008 was the flood...
2010 was the renaissance.
Back in my day this "adventure time" was called Samurai Jack
Do you all miss being children THAT much? I'm in your age group so I remember this shit like the back of my hand, but nothing killed your enjoyment of cartoons on Cartoon Network other than your own ongoing and forever changing tastes. Nothing lasts forever everyone. I say this with no malice or intent to shame any of you, but grow up, for you own sake. If you live in the past you're always going to be longing for those that days that can never be had again. Make new memories, I promise you'll have just as much fun as you did when you used to watch all your favorite shows from the week on Cartoon Cartoon Fridays.
Thanks for the advice, random stranger.
Darude- Sandstorm Don't get me wrong, never stop being a kid; that's how we stay creative, empathetic, and maintain a zest for life, but false expectations always lead us to ruin.
+AgentMurphy286 THANK YOU! It's about time someone saw the light of the day.
Same man.
Samurai Jack was a high rated show AND it had a pretty good run- 4 years! Coincidentally when they got rid of THAT CN started to go downhill.
Therefore, THAT should have been included!
Thank you!
what about the cartoon animated star wars from the 2000's?
J KGF Yeah, that too!
Well samurai Jack's back now.
colleen it's on adult swim now
A lot of what this guy said was inaccurate and not well structured but yeah 2009 was a bad year for CN.
Billy and Mandy needs a reboot
The 2004 cgi 3d thing looked so cool I wish they bring that back
Best shows in 2010
The clone wars
Regular show
Mad show
Adventure time (before it went to shit)
PathToFitness No it's still good
GreenJumpingFrogs no its trash
Sirilo Cruz How? Hmm?
GreenJumpingFrogs do you want to know the truth of adventure time?
Path to fitness yes I agree with the whole list
I stopped watching Cartoon Network when Ed Edd'n Eddy ended. That was the last good show IMO. Anything after 2009 is terrible.
***** Ehhh that was alright,
***** I liked Adventure Time when it first came out now I lost interest.
What about We Bare Bears, Regular Show, Gumball, or Steven Universe? By far CN is the only good young teen/children's channel on right now
+Cryptic Boy ya I know its doing way better than Nickelodeon
Cryptic Boy That I can agree with, I would rather watch what's on CN now then what on Nickelodeon now.
Kind of weird seeing how people were saying that Cartoon Network was bad back then, when it actually was very, very good, compared to what it is now.
@@NarutofightsHD1 Yeah, though I stopped watching CN when Regular Show ended, and right now, I feel like CN is in a void.
You dont realize how much you take these shows for granted until theyre gone
I realized how much I liked these shows BEFORE they were gone, I had a schedule and stole my mom and dad's TV with my brother just to watch them :D
the cartoons that made cn a big hit will never be forgotton...
There is no mention of how The Moxy Show was cancelled in 2000. There is also no mention about Samurai Jack (2001-04).
I honestly wasn’t the biggest fan of this vid because most of what this guy said was inaccurate and not well structured, but.... 2009 was indeed an atrocious year for CN but really 2017 was their absolute worst year ever
1990 people: The future will be amazing!
2024 people: I want to go back to the 90s...
The music makes me nostalgic for simpler internet times
I think what caused Cartoon Network's 2006 - 2009 Dark Age was the movie Re-Animated. Cartoon Network saw the success of live actions series such as The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Drake and Josh so they tried to follow the same pattern by creating "classics" such as Out of Jimmy's Head and the CN Real shows (and they failed massively at that) since they got barely any support. Ending Toonami was also a pretty bad mistake from the channel.
R.I.P regular show 2010-2017
Good riddance
Steven Universe, Adventure Time (when it fist started) were a breath of fresh air for me lol
The original one with the white background and capital lettering freaked me out as a kid 😳 so I had a pillow to hand after watching
I miss watching chowder as a kid
Chris Vargas don’t diss my childhood :(
I’ve been watching this video every year for about 5 years and it still stands true till today
Lol 2009 to 2021 and CN is still shit
Still till this day
And again in 2023
I remember watching this back in 2014
funny thing, this video was the one that introduced me to buckethead
Stu thought I was the only one. . .shit was a total gateway.
right now, as of 2016, i'm pretty sure the only reason i even give a shit about cartoon network is because of
steven universe
Same, the one show that's good on the channel as of now.
What about gumball?
+Dylan Gray and we bare bears?
Bruh regular show and adventure time but to watch them you have to wake up early
Amazing world of gumball is funny
I'm watching in the future (2017) and Cartoon Network has turned into cartoon crapwork
Remember the short show called "don't believe your eyes" that always showed at night on CartoonNetwork. That show scared the shit out of me back then.
The use of Buckethead songs in this, ls an awesome choice
THE BOLTIMORE his music is already nostalgic heavy and coming back around to watch this shit again is just a total mind fuck of emotions.
i only just realized this video was made 10 years ago
I find it incredibly hard to listen to what he's saying because this beat slaps harder than my Dad whenever I voice an opposing opinion in front of his "yes man" friends.
man you have AMAZING taste in music, and soon and i heard machete and ghost and i had a HUGE smile on my face
JESUS CHRIST this video hasn't aged well.
Okay I remember watching this video in like 4th or 5th grade and feeling ahead of my time because I realized and remembered how good Tv other than Cartoon Network was before they changed all of it. Now I’m 18 bouta graduate and thanks for providing 2 good songs that year (2011)
hows 21
@@OttrPopAnimations Good actually lol. These last three years I’ve been working a lot due to the pandemic and never really went out. But a little after turning 21 I started doing more and had a great 2022
Even though Cartoon Network cancelled many great shows and was at a point of hitting rock bottom I'm glad they got their shit together in the last minute and began airing cartoons again. Lets be honest Regular Show and Adventure Time SAVED Cartoon Network and now they are airing more cartoons and are doing a great job.
You Can Thank Rigby For That
Classic Sonic Year of the Rigby baby!
Regular Show and Adventure Time those show suck hard.
stockingandblossom1 How so?
could you make a second video picking up from 2009 - 2016 with Closed Caption or { CC} for the Hearing Impaired..?
