Her Majesty's royal coven sounds like a British Fort Salem and I love that show so I'll definitely be reading it, so great how many witchy books are around now!
I love those spreads😍 I’ve printed out a bunch of photos of YALC to make my own spreads but I’m terrified to mess them up. Your reaction to Fool’s Quest🥺 I agree with your thoughts on the Bee chapters, feel like they’re very repetitive and I’m wanting to get back to Fitz.
These book titles are so similar it’s confusing😂 Can’t believe you managed to stay up and finish it! The Juno Dawson event looked so good. Really want to get to Her Majesty’s Royal Coven but I might wait until October✨
Reading Hobbs dragon keeper as really didn’t enjoy it but your reaction makes me want to proceed to get to the fitz and the fool also tiepolo blue sounds so good I may have just ordered it to be delivered to my local book store 💙
Loved this very relaxing, aesthetic and cosy vlog 🥰 the excerpts you read from Tiepolo Blue spoke to my soul and now I shall actively seek this out. Loved the journalling bit too as this weekend I am starting my very own scrapbook. Wishing you a wonderful week, Ashleigh 🔮
I actually spotted you on Sunday - I was driving to the Fort and saw a wild Ashleigh walking past the Cat and Dog home! And ironically I just bought 3 books in portobello bookshop today!
I share your feelings about Fool’s Quest. The book was very much a bridge between the first and the third, even when a lot happened (I just remember stress reading the shit out it!). I can’t wait for you to read the last one and hear your thoughts about it! 🐝 🐝
Thanks for the list of recs at the end of the book. I read The Deathless Girls by Kiran Milwood Hargrave, which is a Dracula retelling giving an origin story to two of the brides. But instead of interpreting the two dark wives as brunettes, this author interpreted them as brown girls. They get captured and sold into slavery, and it is about their perseverance, and their loyalty to each other as sisters. And it is quite a dark story, so it is worth looking into the trigger warnings, but it had good characterisation, good relationships, and overall a good story. But I just didn't love it. I enjoyed it. Maybe it had something to do with the writing or the pacing or the execution, but it just didn't 100% work for me and I cannot isolate why. Which is why even though The Mercies sounds like my kind of thing I am a little weary of picking it up. I too though am interested in Her Majesty's Royal Coven because I want witchy books at the moment and Tieplo Blue sounds very up my alleyway. Another book I am interested in that has come out that is also dark academia is Sirens and Muses by Antonia Angress. It is sapphic, and involves art students in their early uni days, and it sounds amazing.
I felt the same way about the deathless girls. Like the book is perfectly good, I just think that perhaps it wasn't long enough to develop the characters and therefore I wasn't as attached to the story. Still well written though ☺️ if you liked the exploration of Romani people then you might like Deep and Darkest Red by Anna Marie McLemore, as that interprets the French dancing plague (which Kiran Millwood Hargrave has also recently written about lol) as the town people blaming the Romani.
Heya :) Can you recommend some good coffee shops for reading in Edinburgh? I have a bit of social anxiety so finding new places is hard, but I'm so sick of the busy/dirty costas and starbucks in the center of town 😅 Would love to know if you have any recommendations with good reading vibes!
Stockbridge has an entirely different vibe to central Edinburgh and has tonnes of coffee shops! Grow Urban is one of my favourites and the quieter one I’ve found 🖤
The ending is such a mood, that feeling when you finish a book and need to process everything that just happened.
Your vlogs are so cozy and calming, always love the vibes 🌿

The Juno Dawson book is fantastic, listened to it on audio, and it has one of the best final lines ever that made me laugh out loud!
