To put it another way, since it has become popular to bash white people and cast black people as only victims I don't feel like I can trust what people say, partly because people are actually afraid these days to call out the anti-white racism that exists.

Batman: The Animated Series and its use of "Dark Deco" (light colors on black paper, which was atypical to the standard of drawing on white paper)
Also, a VFX/Animators crossover with "Mary Poppins Returns". I think it was reported that they needed to bring ~70 animators out of retirement with experience in hand-drawn animation. The scenes within the Royal Doulton Bowl show this bridge between animation and CGI very well

That's why inverse kinematics are so useful. You can use the same manually-produced animation, but the end result is different because the computer is modifying it on the fly to match the surroundings. It's also much better than full physical simulation because it lets you keep animation stylization and is less likely to bug out.

As a kid I watched a lot of old hand animated cartoons. There was one thing that slightly bothered me in a lot of them. Picture the scene (this is a completely fictional scene): five doors, one of which a character is about to come out of. The scene is meant to make us guess which door it will be. Yet, you could always tell which it was going to be because the door that was about to be animated was always in a slightly different colour or with slightly different noise (is that the word?). I assume this was because the whole "set" was just a blank image that they kept throughout the whole scene and only the door that was animated needed to have different pictures. It saves effort. Still, it bothered me that it stood out so much and took away from what was obviously meant to invoke surprise.

However, according to Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Nemo_(1911_film). "Gertie was the first film to use animation techniques such as keyframes, registration marks, tracing paper, the Mutoscope action viewer, and animation loops."
Even before that, there were animated films - for example, Pauve Pierrot from 1892 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pauvre_Pierrot). Not to mention other non-filmic forms of animation - for example, the phenakistiscope, and the simple flipbook.

the amount of love ufotable poured into kimetsu no yaiba was borderline unbelievable. i mean they've always been great, but they took things up a whole new level with this one. episode 19 was incredible, no doubt, but a probably equal amount of thought and effort went into animating many of the big fights in the anime, too. despite having been spoiled by the insane quality of action animation in recent years, from naruto to shingeki no kyojin, boku no hero academia, one punch man, mob psycho 100, en en no shouboutai, kimetsu no yaiba brought an almost entirely different, instantly recognisable visual style to anime action. props must be given to ufotable for pulling this off the way they did

Suggestion: look at the animation communities on TH-cam, there has been a whole generation of animators that got their start here on this platform. It would be worth it to look at the good and bad, young and old that is here.
A small list to give examples (others can probably list hundreds more):
-Cow of the Wild (by tribbleofdoom),
    -Guy Collins Animation,
-the Steam Source Engine animations (TF2 characters and gmod stuff)
-The White Wold with the Blue Eyes: by SumikoOneeSan

-Arin and Ross from the GameGrumps
    -Dawn Somewhere
    -Simon’s Cat

Except that the gloves didn't come from minstrel shows. It came from the fact that Mickey's ungloved hands were barely visible in Steamboat Willie and so a lot of his emoting through the hands was lost. They needed to fix this problem and the only logical way to do that was to either redesign the character, and they chose the simplest thing to do which was to add gloves to the outfit.

You guys could also cover things like Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop, and dissect the action direction and animation techniques that go into creating that type of motion. Other things you could discuss/react to are the different methods of animating such as Flash animation, the traditional hand drawn stuff you touched upon, and the more modern version of hand drawn animation.

I love two perfectly animated scenes in Disney's Tarzan
    1. when Clayton dies (they don't directly show it, of course). They convey the impact in four strikes: the vine stretches, the machete hits the ground, Tarzan hits the ground, thunder+rain starts falling with the shadow of Clayton's hanging body.
    2. when Tarzan spear-cuts Sabor (the leopard), she looks at her arm and back at Tarzan and snarls. He snarls back.

A few I'd recommend looking at for good animation:
    - Samurai Jack, especially Jack vs. The Ninja. An intense duel entirely told in monochrome black and white, with no shades of grey. It is gorgeous.
    - Don Bluth movies. Gorgeous fluid expressive animation that during the 80s, was kinda pushing the technical envelope of what animation could do. Rotoscoping, backlighting, he did it all.
    - Klaus. One of the most beautiful animated films ever made. Animated in hand drawn 2D, but shaded and lit in a way that makes it looks almost 3D.
    - Green Eggs and Ham. A Netflix TV series that is animated almost as beautifully and smoothly as a big budget 2D Disney film... Partially because it apparently had the budget to match :p

Also bad animation-the new Ghost in the Shell 2045 or at least the beginning. I couldnt get past how corny it was after having watched all of Stand Alone Complex 10 times.
      Also 80s toy-selling commercials-so many cycles!!!

9:02 That whole segment was fascinating af! I could spend an hour listening to this guy explain the history of cartoons and the sociological context and activism behind them... The stories behind the cartoons...

Would love to see you guys react to an anime movie called "Redline" from 2009. It has some crazy visuals and the entire movie is in 60fps!

Lol no dragon ball super has trash animations. If you pause it at anytime during a filler animation they look super jarring. It has sharp lines and pretty colors but that's it.

@@michaelb2226 because its early Anime. It looks so janky. I'd like to see some on other things like the animation on the Poker game in Part 3 of JoJo. Or maybe the battle. Maybe Chivalry of a Failed Knight anime, the fights in that are hella good animated.

@@michaelb2226 maybe but you cant judge an animation just by the fact that some still shots may look choppy. For example many people tend to prejudge shows like mob psycho 100 because the artstyle makes doesnt appeal to them at first glance but when the whole thing is in motion you just have an eyegasm. The whole point of an animation is how it looks in motion after all.
