Hands down the greatest show in the history of American television. Amazing acting, incredible stories. Complex and fascinating. You can watch it every few years and be enthralled again.
Seasons 1, 3 and 4 are really exceptional --- love The Wire. Need to stop rewatching - laundry has piled up (again); house hasn't been hoovered (again); cats aren't being fed on time (again) and plants are dying from not being watered (again). On the plus side, my husband and I are still talking to each other - conversation never stalls when we rewatch The Wire. We are so lucky to have you guys tell these brilliant stories! What a show! :)
I started rewatching the Wire last weekend and couldn't believe its been 20 years since i first watched it and its still holding its own in 2022. One character stood out for me.....OMAR LITTLE. RIP MKW.
This is what I hate about hypocritical Hollywood, they put films up for Oscars, Toni Awards etc. when a series that literally knocks everyone off their feet, with excellent writing & acting it is more or less ignored. This was one of the best series I have ever witnessed& the other was Body Guard from England, another series with top-notch acting in every sense of the word than they are reluctantly mentioned. The wire from the beginning to end kept you on the edge of your seat with excitement and suspense. Kudos and respect, this is what television should be about.
i've noticed white viewers tend to rank season 2 as the 1st or 2nd best (for obvious reasons, they pretend to be impartial but they absolutely love to see themselves on screen)
Season 4 should have got an Emmy, a congressional medal of honor, added to the Library of Congress, added to school and college syllabi, sent to space so that aliens could be like 'this species has empathy and intelligence'.
Pretty easily The Wire is the greatest TV crime series of all-time. It showed you life in Baltimore from all different perspectives. The drug lord, his family and soldiers. The Police and their leadership team. The Politicians and the back room deals they make for power. Even life from the view of the school kids was so realistic. The character development so superb that characters like Bubbles, Omar, Stringer Bell, Avon Barksdale, Bodie, Clay Davis, Tommy Carcetti, Proposition Joe, Bunk Lester Freamon Frank Sobotka, Bunny, Kima and others will forever remain ingrained into our memories. RIP to Prop Joe, Omar, and anyone else we lost from our Wire Family. WHAT A SHOW!!!!
I personally agree. Season two was disturbingly deep with smuggling drugs/women into the USA through the ports and season 4 is so damn emotional because of the kids' impoverished environment, peer pressure, the educational system, etc. By and large, the Wire is such a landmark series that I can watch it over and over with the same enthusiasm as if I'm watching it for the very first time.
From the UK…we need to thank Charlie Brooker for bringing this to everyone’s attention. He really generated the tidal wave of love for a TV show that we have no real street knowledge about. It is so real, it sticks a thousand candle spotlight of the haves and have not that is a global issue. Bravo to everyone involved. Even westy…the posh private school kid from Sheffield! Just brilliant from every single person.
It's somewhat incredible that the most American TV show ever, so tied to the deep roots of US society, started with two Brits (West and Elba) as lead characters.
Lance Riddick (Daniels) has also passed since this video. RIP Lance Riddick, Michael K. Williams (Omar the Terror), Robert Chew (Proposition Joe) and Reginald Cathey (Norman Wilson, Tommy Carcettis black campaign manager). All legends.
Marlo, chris and snoop. These 3 guys literally gave the characters a stunning villainy. You literally hated the cold blooded attitude and murder, wished their roles died soon. Brilliant brilliant performance. The best show ever!
@@karapastikmeeting the actor who played Marlo Stanfield at a Babies R Us of all places😮 he seems like a cool guy but that would certainly be… disconcerting right off the bat.
I've watched it several times (just like you have!), and one thing that is so unbelievable about it is that every single performance is excellent. There's hardly even a mediocre actor in it, and the cast was huge. I can't think of another multi-season drama that is so well cast and acted.
“Any post industrial city.” Such a key statement. One of the main reasons for the hood. People point to gangs, drugs, etc. but once the factories shut down and unemployment went up, it greatly effected our black communities.
It effected all the communities really, like across my grandfather's house from left to right used to be Italian run factories for blocks and blocks, my grandfather worked at the docks in Philly and there were Italians there too. Now, it's mostly Spanish.
@@NiniEJ yup, go back. It's a rough one, but all the pieces really matter. You just have to follow along, because there are a couple arcs in that season where you can compare to other people/relationships in the other seasons and come to the conclusion that drugs aren't the only thing that can tear people apart
Dominic West nails the American accent perfectly but when he fakes having a British accent while faking his American accent in Season 2, that’s beyond next level impressive lol
I'm a white guy from the UK. I still say this is the most human piece of television I've ever seen. Just a completely different perspective of life that I'm used to, but seeing similar issues in regards to poverty and drugs and corruption, maybe not on the same scale but enough to ring a bell y'know. One love.
If you were in south Manchester or London in lates 80s/90s you’d definitely see some comparisons. But yeh, next level. Plus it was always great to have few of our lads on the show holding it down. Best show ever made -and UK n Irish actors played a part in that. A point of huge pride for us across the pond.
For me, this is still the best show. Nothing have topped it since then. The theme, the story, the message they were telling about society, you can relate to it, you kind of build a relationship with this show. I miss them, the cast, the producers, the story, I miss The Wire.
Best show of all time each season was a masterpiece, the show broke down so many issues in the inner city neighborhoods. That show should have one so many awards.
Season Four was Shakespearean. It's absolutely PERFECT. I was only a couple years older than Mack Wilds, Julito McCollum, Jermaine Crawford, and Maestro Harrell...and it felt like these were legit drama prodigies or savants they way they made that heavy material seem as raw and real and relatable as it could possibly be without ever feeling like they took away from the rest of the brilliance of that cast, writing, and direction. It's apex mountain TV for me to this day.
Beautiful responses, their speaking of Michael K Williams legacy is what the world needed. His loss is unreal and the pure art he gave to us will never be forgotten.
Best show in the history of television series - scope, writing, characters, cast, acting, cinematography, realism, unpredictability, and raw emotion. Had it all. Been through the entire five series four times now over may years and I feel I owe it to myself to try and watch it every year from now on.
The entire series is incomparably superb. My favorite seasons, in descending order, are 2, 1, 4, 3, 5. I can't take up space going into the reasons, but they're all superb.
2, then 4 for me. 5 is last, but I go through different opinions on the ordering of 1 and 3. 1 is great in it's simplicity (comparing it to the rest of the seasons that is, perhaps its focus on just on aspect would be a better description) but the widening of 3 to include more of the police department's internal machinations, the politicians, and the inclusion of a new rival in the drug scene, makes it hard to not love.
I thank Andre for playing so well his role of Bubbs, so well that he made me cried in the second-last episode of the series, when he finally spoke about Sherrod. That touched my heart real hard
Just finished watching The Wire and I am without words. The script, the characters, the authenticity of the location. Everything about the show was perfect. I will make sure that before I die (currently 27), that I watch this show again. Such a masterpiece. Rest in peace to all of the actors that we’ve lost from the show. Their memory will forever live on. Thank you to all involved for such an amazing show.
True story: im leaving the planet fitness on Flatbush Ave in Brooklyn 2016. 1030pm middle of winter. No one really out. I see Marlow come walking out a store on a dark back street. Just me in him. I was like ooohhh shit. He shook my hand then i told him my name is actually Omar. And i told him i felt like i was about to be put in a vacant 🤣🤣. Hes a tall dude and intimidating looking but was really nice
Jamie Hector will always be my favorite actor on a show full of amazing actors. Marlo was terrifying and complicated. He gave amazing performances with understatement and a look. His backstory was limited but that made it much more powerful. Just an amazing actor in an amazing role. What a great show!!
I binged watched the Wire for the first time theses last few weeks, and just finished the final episode last night. It was truly one of the best tv shows ever ever. Could not believe that its 20 yrs old. The acting, the characters , the stories and how it all intertwined. I loved all the characters but Omar was special. I was gutted when he got shot. Im even more gutted that he has passed in real life. Then when i read that Lance has also passed it was,and is hard to take in. May they both rest in peace. Thank you all for the hours and hours of top class entertainment.
I can’t believe it took me so long to watch this. When I finally did, 2 weekends ago, I was obsessed and watched all 5 seasons over 2 weekends. I never thought anything could top the Sopranos but I this this is IT for me and it’s spoilt my enjoyment of everything else on TV as it’s the gold of gold standard. Every single actor holds their own. I just hope I can watch it many times more before I pop my clogs
I never saw the wire until 2011 watched it non stop 6 episodes a day from start to finish . Best series i have ever seen and i now watch it every year just brilliant .
All are amazing. There was something extremely special about season 4. The stakes were so high dealing with kids and there future and where they would ultimately end up.
It's hard to believe any TV show or movie could ever match The Wire. The show was simply perfect. Watching the Michael K Williams part makes me want to cry
I have no idea how TF these Wire actors are able to sit down because THEY ALL acted their asses off. Ain't no weak character or actors. No actor phones in his/her roles. Casting was also 1000% perfect.
Just mad respect to Michael K Williams, Wood Harris and Robert Wisdom for their performances in the show. I particularly love the characters of Daniels and Carcetti for the reason that they show how the corruption in the system doesn't allow you to be good. Either you are corrupt or you are out. While Daniels takes the noble option, Carcetti doesn't. And then, there are characters like Colvin and McNulty who are willing to set it all on fire, just to weed out the corruption and get things done.
The writing, production, and acting, on this show are the best it’s ever been done. Funny thing is Daniels, Marlo, and Bubbles, roles all could’ve been switched to any of the actors playing a different character. I mean the actor that plays Marlo is a prim and proper detective in Bosch, and the actor that plays Daniels plays a Bubbles type character in The Corner mini series done by The Wire people. McNulty was great and his accent only stuck out a few times in 60 episodes. Stringer Bell did a great job hiding his accent also. I watch this series in its entirety once a year since it ended. It is, in my opinion, the best drama show ever made for US Television. Love The Wire!!!
Omg thanks so much for sharing this… still the best series of all time. I loved it. Great to see these guys so many years later talking about this masterpiece. Thanks again! Much appreciated.
I remember how torturous it was having to wait a week between episodes in a year between seasons. When his masterpiece was finally over, yes I actually cried, I couldn’t wait for the box out to be released so I could have it forever and watch it whenever I want which is at least once a year. I have been a fan of David Simon since Homicide: life on the street , which is a lesser known gem, and love all of his series but The Wire is televisions greatest masterpiece. And raise the bar that no one else has been able to reach since. IMHO ✌🏼
I didn’t care back when the show came out but now that I’m able to fully comprehend I understand why this was the greatest show ever made! Randy & Duquan’s outcomes hurt my soul though 😫
Just the best show of all time. So many great characters and unbelievable performances. Never won any awards because it starred and implicated the "wrong" people.
That last part...that's precisely why so many people do that 'unpopular opinion but season two' bullshit. Same exact reason. It's not AS GOOD if it doesn't center THEM.

@@Sully0020 I respect that, but I wasn't really too thrilled with the City Government plot. I loved Stringer and Avon's plot, but I just felt like the city government plot was dragged on too long when it was clear as a crystal that Carcetti was gonna win.
Hands down the greatest show in the history of American television. Amazing acting, incredible stories. Complex and fascinating. You can watch it every few years and be enthralled again.
💯💯💯
Every few months for me
It’s every day, for me. I love the 24/7 The Wire channel on the Firestick app. My daughter thinks I have a problem…😂😂😂
@aaronlashomb8174lad it’s just the best show ever in general
It's my 2nd fav after The Sopranos and above Breaking Bad
R.I.P. Michael K Williams. I wish you were here being interviewed for the anniversary.
Really wish Michael K Williams was around for this, incredible of course as the incomparable Omar Little. RIP.
Prop Joe passed in 2012 also.
RIP MKW.
Jesus all of them look as if they just filmed the wire yesterday. What a stellar cast, and my favorite season was 1 and 3
Avon
3...4. .shiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeet

After rewatching the entire series, I still think Season 2 was the best. Frank Sobotka is such an underrated character.
I know season 2 sometimes gets a bad wrap, but I don't understand it. I loved season 2, I thought it was great.
Season 2 is definitely a sleeper. But season 1 is the best.
2&3 are a tie for me
i've noticed white viewers tend to rank season 2 as the 1st or 2nd best (for obvious reasons, they pretend to be impartial but they absolutely love to see themselves on screen)
@@darkale658 What a load of horse shit.
Season 4 should have got an Emmy, a congressional medal of honor, added to the Library of Congress, added to school and college syllabi, sent to space so that aliens could be like 'this species has empathy and intelligence'.
"... And they shoot each other in the street and shoot dope most of the time" - yeah no 😅
😂😂😂
Season 4 should be a matery to the teachers for graduete
That scene with Bunk sitting on the side of the tub dressed in a pink robe and drunk as sh!t is classic
Jimmyyyyyyy!
He cheated so much on his wife…that could have been a storyline to explore…hmmmm…
And trying to not throw up while at the meeting, cold sweats, gagging etc Best Not sure that was next day but you remember,Bunk was hilarious.
One of the best shows ever to be on TV.
Detective Pryzbylewski was the Detective Medavoy of 'The Wire'.
Definitely showed why & how things are so purposely messed up & stays that way
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💯💯💯
Season 2 and 4 The Best! People sleep on season 2….. man it was one of the best.
I personally agree. Season two was disturbingly deep with smuggling drugs/women into the USA through the ports and season 4 is so damn emotional because of the kids' impoverished environment, peer pressure, the educational system, etc. By and large, the Wire is such a landmark series that I can watch it over and over with the same enthusiasm as if I'm watching it for the very first time.
we not sleep 2 just isnt as good as the others. Still good though.
I started watching the wire after Charlie review on BBC 2 👍
It's somewhat incredible that the most American TV show ever, so tied to the deep roots of US society, started with two Brits (West and Elba) as lead characters.
I managed it without him...jesus some people can't shit without thanking someone on TV!
@@evera1505 go see a specialist mate. You sound way too on edge.
Yes, definitely! First time I heard about it as well.
Lance Riddick (Daniels) has also passed since this video. RIP Lance Riddick, Michael K. Williams (Omar the Terror), Robert Chew (Proposition Joe) and Reginald Cathey (Norman Wilson, Tommy Carcettis black campaign manager). All legends.
I'd like to have seen Clarke Peters. Lester Freeman is the greatest TV detective of all time. Natural Poooo loice.

Marlo, chris and snoop. These 3 guys literally gave the characters a stunning villainy. You literally hated the cold blooded attitude and murder, wished their roles died soon. Brilliant brilliant performance. The best show ever!
Met Jamie Hector at Babies R Us in Brooklyn many years ago - he couldn't have been nicer. Asked him why Marlo's character was so evil, he just smiled.
@@karapastikmeeting the actor who played Marlo Stanfield at a Babies R Us of all places😮 he seems like a cool guy but that would certainly be… disconcerting right off the bat.
It’s funny seeing Marlo’s actor be so normal lmao
Jamie Hector's performance was absolutely terrifying. Such an incredible performance.
I love the way they talk about Michael K Williams. He was a brilliant actor, as anyone who has watched The Wire and Boardwalk Empire knows.
Agree with the cast...season 4 was something special!! But all the seasons were as important as the other. Best TV show ever!!
Definitely my favourite season in terms of the story. In terms of theme song, 3 was definitely mine.
Season 4 for sure…
I skipped Season 2. I just couldn’t get into it. I might go back and try to watch it again.
I love them all but 2&3 are my favorites.
I agree with them on season 4. All seasons are exceptional but season 4 is probably the best thing I’ll ever see in my life.
And hardest.
Lance's analysis of the character Omar Little was beautiful. Omar Little was a beautifully layered & complex character!
Michael K. Williams and Lance Reddick will live in my heart forever.💔
Please don’t forget Prop Joe😢
I'm a white guy from the UK. I still say this is the most human piece of television I've ever seen. Just a completely different perspective of life that I'm used to, but seeing similar issues in regards to poverty and drugs and corruption, maybe not on the same scale but enough to ring a bell y'know.
One love.
If you were in south Manchester or London in lates 80s/90s you’d definitely see some comparisons. But yeh, next level. Plus it was always great to have few of our lads on the show holding it down. Best show ever made -and UK n Irish actors played a part in that. A point of huge pride for us across the pond.
It’s weird it feels like Lance Reddick has a totally different voice than Daniels
You think? I actually thought his swearing was Daniels leaking into Reddick
Season 4 is my favorite and the most emotionally moving to me from my experience volunteering at schools when I lived in the U.S.
For me, this is still the best show. Nothing have topped it since then. The theme, the story, the message they were telling about society, you can relate to it, you kind of build a relationship with this show. I miss them, the cast, the producers, the story, I miss The Wire.
I know he's an actor and I'm not stupid, but part of my brain is going "It's nice seeing bubbles sober and doing well!"
Best show of all time each season was a masterpiece, the show broke down so many issues in the inner city neighborhoods. That show should have one so many awards.
it didnt because of racism
Season Four was Shakespearean. It's absolutely PERFECT. I was only a couple years older than Mack Wilds, Julito McCollum, Jermaine Crawford, and Maestro Harrell...and it felt like these were legit drama prodigies or savants they way they made that heavy material seem as raw and real and relatable as it could possibly be without ever feeling like they took away from the rest of the brilliance of that cast, writing, and direction. It's apex mountain TV for me to this day.
Iirc the actor who played Prop Joe was one of their acting coaches/mentors. Props to them!
The casting was amazing.
I rewatch this entire series once a year and Band of Brothers
Yes. Band Of Brothers is my second favourite series after The Wire. Both are superb.
Why am i still scared of Jamie Hector?? Dude seems like just the nicest guy!
The Wire is one of the greatest series of all time my favourite.
Beautiful responses, their speaking of Michael K Williams legacy is what the world needed. His loss is unreal and the pure art he gave to us will never be forgotten.
I just finished the wire a few days ago, it's the only series I've seen head to tail without skipping the episode, it's sensational
Best show in the history of television series - scope, writing, characters, cast, acting, cinematography, realism, unpredictability, and raw emotion. Had it all. Been through the entire five series four times now over may years and I feel I owe it to myself to try and watch it every year from now on.
The fact that the actor that played Prez has his glasses on crooked leads me to believe that he’s not that far removed from the character 😂🤣😂
I barely got into the wire this year.
I didn't think I'd love this show so much.
Everyone was brilliant.
10/10
To hear Dominic West say that people don't tell him the 4th is the best season confuses me since it was in my opinion the pinnacle of the series.
It really was.
That surprised me too. Everyone l know loves them all but agree if pressed to choose they will say S4 is the best.
They probably don't say that to Dominic West because they think he'd be offended because McNulty is barely in season 4.
@@Sully0020 He doesn't seem offended.
@@Maw0 No he doesn't. I love that he said season 4.
RIP Lance Reddick and Michael K Williams
Robert Chew prop Joe!
3,4,1,2,5
@x season 2 has come around for a lot of people. I would say it’s almost in everyone’s top 3 now. It’s number 3 for me.

How did they not win an emmy?! This is one of the best shows of all time.
I thank Andre for playing so well his role of Bubbs, so well that he made me cried in the second-last episode of the series, when he finally spoke about Sherrod. That touched my heart real hard
Season 2 is some of the best tv I’ve ever experienced. The wire as a whole is the greatest tv show of all time for me
No doubt
One of the greatest shows in television history. Essential viewing for anyone who wants to work in any form of public service.
Yeah mate it’s the best show of all time hands down for me
True story: im leaving the planet fitness on Flatbush Ave in Brooklyn 2016. 1030pm middle of winter.
What a great show!!
right. It's basically like Marlo was pure evil. The streets personified.
RIP Lance. RIP MKW… Still love this series to this very day.
LOOOOOOL Wendell pierce is still dressed like BUNK 😂😂😂😂😂
RIP Lance Reddick 😪
I binged watched the Wire for the first time theses last few weeks, and just finished the final episode last night. It was truly one of the best tv shows ever ever. Could not believe that its 20 yrs old. The acting, the characters , the stories and how it all intertwined. I loved all the characters but Omar was special. I was gutted when he got shot. Im even more gutted that he has passed in real life. Then when i read that Lance has also passed it was,and is hard to take in. May they both rest in peace. Thank you all for the hours and hours of top class entertainment.
I've seen the series 6 times. I honestly think if I started again I would easily watch it a 7th time.
I'm 5 times round now. I feel like it's the only show which gets better the more you watch it.
Good to finally see marlo caring about the kids.
I never saw the wire until 2011 watched it non stop 6 episodes a day from start to finish . Best series i have ever seen and i now watch it every year just brilliant .
It’s the best show that deserved an Emmy and the best show I still haven’t seen
Get on it ✔✔
I am a super fan of the wire can’t get enough, every month I watched all the seasons, it’s like watching for the first time.
I'll always love and continue to watch The Wire....RIP to both Michael and Lance 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Best episode is definitely 2x06. It has both Omar testifying and the end of D'Angelo. Two very different events but both impactful in their own way.
Without a doubt one of the best shows ever made! Love the show, the cast, the characters, the story, the foreshadowing...brilliant!
best cast ever.
I disagree, it's the the best series done in the whole world.
Season 4 Is definitely my favourite season from any tv show PERIOD!! Best TV series ever made hands down!
randy, dukie, namond, michael - prezbo and bunny - who could forget these guys in s4?
Oh yes, Bunny! Bunny was wonderful.
Omg thanks so much for sharing this… still the best series of all time. I loved it. Great to see these guys so many years later talking about this masterpiece. Thanks again! Much appreciated.
Best show ! So well written , time for another rewatch!
The wire is like fine wine. It will never get old or outdated itself as the world and themes haven't changed but are more important.
Just the best show of all time. So many great characters and unbelievable performances. Never won any awards because it starred and implicated the "wrong" people.
That's an interesting take. Maybe you're right.
That last part...that's precisely why so many people do that 'unpopular opinion but season two' bullshit. Same exact reason. It's not AS GOOD if it doesn't center THEM.
@@thepreposterich3553op is definitely right the wire is hands down the best show ever
