Journal Wright he was born into the streets, and not just that, but into a drug-dealing empire. You can tell that he is reluctant to be a part of that world, but it's all that he knows. He's not a violent person, and isn't afraid to show that he has empathy. The scene where he and Bodie are about to get into about Wallace playing with a toy is a prime example of that. Hel, even when he finds out that Stringer has Wallace killed, he is tempted to snitch, but he knows that he just can't do it, that it would be against everything that has been ingrained in him. And he loses his life anyway. Almost every character has a tragic end to them, but his death seems so Shakespearean.
Bob Hollywood That's beautifully stated. What I loved most was the gems he was dropping on Bodie, Poot, and Wallace like teaching them how to play chess by comparing it to the drug game and then informing them they don't have to be rude to the fiends or be violent because it's just like any other lucrative enterprise and that catching bodies brings in the police not the drug trade itself.

It's not a TV show dude. That is why it can't be mentioned in the same bracket with other "entertainment" shows. It was shot naturally, portraying real life of a city as it goes on everyday. It's the great novel of our period.
Does anyone notice Rhonda Pearlman did not age at all? omg 😱 she looks exactly, exactly the same since the last Wire Episode she appeared in. Wow, just Wow.
Arguably the best written show ever. I felt the same way when season 2 came on. To the point I didn't watch for about 3-4 years. When you see it play out in its entirety, you can truly appreciate the genius that is created in that Big Picture kind of way
I felt the same way about Season 2 also but it gave incredible insight on how the dope got into Baltimore to begin with and who the people were at the docks helping to do it. The Wire left no stone unturned and it's the only show that Has over 10 main characters who's faces and screen names you know right of the top. Bunk will always be Bunk no matter what he does .. Omar, McNautly, Bunny, Marlo, whoever
@@billymattson5336 uhh ya I just tried watching Banshee it it has literally, ( and I literally use the word literally in its literal definition) had every cheesy clichéed American TV trope I mentioned within the first 5 minutes... literally. ....I made through 15 minutes and switched to another Danish political thriller to cleanse my pallet. ( I think I'll stick to European stuff .They make TV that's not so adolescent and write for the functionality literate.) ....Man ,I wish they made more wire .
Honestly, I really appreciated the second season because it showed how it is from all different communities. I mean I'm black and grew up in the hood but the show itself is fire.
Not really. He was a minor character only to play a part in bubbles character growth. He died offscreen and if it wasn't for bubbles mentioning him nobody on that show or even the community was going to be impacted by his death. If it was Dukie then you got something here
Great social commentary that STILL resonates even today 12 years after the show's finale! Great writing, directing as well as some of the BEST actors. Didn't want to see it end but as with all good things.......
The Wire was simply the best of the best. I mean, there were and are a lot of good shows. Greats ones. But The Wire was the best. The story lines and acting was second to none. And when you go back and watch it again you realize what a brilliant guy David Simon is. Little Man, Omar, Cheese, Cutty, Snoop, MIchael, Rawls, Bunny, Randy, Kima, Prop Joe, The Greek, etc. Names that are forever in my head.
“There are no good guys and bad guys. There are people. Complicated, complex, dynamic people. And it would behoove us all to take the time to look and listen to them.” Wow, Carver’s a lot wiser than I remember him on the show
Holy fuck that scene where he stops to just smoke a cigarette and they mistakenly drop a package out the window because they think they're about to get robbed cracks me up. Omar didn't even know they had a stash there, is out in his jammy-jams, and wasn't even armed 😂😂
My friend had the wire on and i just watched with him and i got absolutely hooked. I used all my free time watching. Then omar died and i mourned him and then i googled michael k williams and i mourned some more. 😭
I was introduced to the Wire here in the UK in 2012. I found it to be compulsive and at times heart wrenching viewing from start to finish. A great script, brilliant performances across the board and a spotlight put on those, many in authority would rather not see illuminated. No fake awards necessary as its message is far to serious for that. Like a fine wine it will resonate globally in the consciousness of those priveliged to watch it, then, now and in the future. A timeless classic.
Its not the best tv show ever!...... Its the best thing to ever been shot on camera & put on ANY screen. When ya watched a tacky soap opera with cheesy acting you have to get an episode of The Wire in afterwards to remind yourself that people can make good shows. Its by far the cleverest show created, by far.. theres really not many things come close. Breaking Bad ,Soprano's were amazing shows in their own right, but gave you more hollywood style action and a quicker drama "fix".. The Wire was just gritty, slow, long drawn out stories which added to the realism. It was real life at real life pace.
woolen Nailed it. The Wire is more than a show. It is a viewing experience. It is as real as it gets. David Simon really spent a year living in the streets of Baltimore in the 1980s. He showed the world the heart beat of that city. As real as a tv viewing experience can get.
As someone who just got done binge-watching this again for probably the thousandth time, I really can't disagree with you. Such a brilliant brilliant show.
I rented it for two snowy workless weeks- watched it non stop- I was so depressed and bereaved after the last dvd. I’ll never forget my feeling of utter disbelief that there was no more Wire.
I am an Old White Irish guy from NYC. Homicide: Life on the Street and The Wire , both by David Simon are the greatest shows ever on TV. They show the progression of the City of Baltimore. Both shows have the greatest characters of any show. I grew up poor 1 scene in Homicide when they are trying to get a kid to snitch and show him He's just gonna end up dead , They drive him to a lot by the water He says this is the ocean, they tell him it's the Bay the ocean's bigger. This kid was from West Baltimore and never saw the ocean he was about 17-18 yrs old That's powerful and True. In The Wire The Lt.Daniels takes Wallace to his Grandmother's house to hide him so He can testify on Stringer. They're walking up to the Grandmother's house and Wallace says What's that noise, the Lt. says Crickets. He never heard them before , powerful shit. I can relate to that it's real life. It's a big world out there but these poor kids never see it. Then so many people wonder how these poor kids get involved in criminal conduct and drugs. They should watch these shows that David Simon created from truth and being a Reporter on the streets of Baltimore. Good Job to the whole Cast.
Ever since 2011 I have made a ritual to rewatch The Wire every year. And everytime it blows my mind as if I'm seeing the greatest piece of entertainment first time every time.
Just started watching this...it is brilliant. So many talented people, love it. Michael K Williams' portrayal of Omar Little was nothing short of Oscar worthy
Lot of memorable deaths, but the part that hit me hardest was when Greggs was shot. The anxiety, the guilt, the intensity of the search for that car. One of the most tense moments every captured in any series.
I remember hearing about 'The Wire' when it was on the air, but for some reason never watched it. Over the past couple of weeks, I watched every episode of every season...and finally finished last night. WOW! I was so sad & I hesitated watching the final episode knowing that it was the end of the series. Well done, Mr. Simon. Well done, to all of the actors & characters. Well done, to the writers. Well done, to Baltimore. SUPERB SERIES!!
One of the Best T.V. series that had major viewership. The writing was brilliant & still resonants with people til this day ... Binge watched this just recently.
It's amazing how realistic this show was. I use to tell people while I was in federal prison that this is like they just took a video camera a stood out there and filmed although we know they were all actor's. The drug portrayal of Baltimore was 💯💯💯 accurate. Pure genius David Simon the way he wove all 5 seasons together with it's characters. I thought it ended because of the bad light of real life was being shined on of Baltimore for the world to see. At least that was the rumor in Baltimore. Especially, when they focused on the politicians, we heard that made them uncomfortable because there again was actual truth and accuracy to it. After it ended some of it actually came true like the Mayor Shelia Dixon getting indicted and so forth.
Just finished the series yesterday (again) and I’ve noticed things I’ve didn’t notice before. I watch this show like 3 times now and it feels so damn fresh! And this story is still relevant.
I just finished watching Season 2 yesterday and let me tell you, Frank Sobatka was the muthafuckin man!! I usually skipped over the 2nd season because I thought it'd drag or be boring, but the 2nd season was AMAZING.
@@midofmidlife but every season is essential to the overall story and idea David Simon wanted to portray, you read the book that has 5 chapters, but you skip the second chapter for some reason, it is disrespectful to the show lol, as it is arguably the best ever
Yeah I hated season 2 my first two viewings. It gets so much better on repeat watches once you how it lays the ground work involving kickbacks to developers, the Greeks returning to B'more, etc. I think season 5 gets more shit than it deserves. People say it's too cartoony with the fake serial killer, but honestly a scandal like that wouldn't surprise me at all in 2020. Even when it aired, Simon said the journalist making up stories/facts in order to win awards and advance their career was something that actually happened when he was a reporter.
I JUST put my VP on to this.....dude had never seen it and I am totally obsessed with this show... he told me that this is the greatest drama in the history of television......i completely agree.. R.I.P Reg E. Cathy

The final nail in Stringer’s coffin was when he admitted to Avon he was responsible for D’Angelo getting killed, after that Avon didn’t care about Stringer.
Recently started re-watching The Wire. Think I binge watched it back in 2010 or 2011, Am halfway thru season 2, and D'angelo just got snuffed in prison. "Where's Wallace String ?!!? Where's Wallace !??! "
you can’t just have 1 or 2 or even 3 favorite characters in the wire. there are too many phenomenal performances, characters, storylines, moments, just fuck. best show ever made hands down
I love this show! I can still remember getting to my sister house on Sunday night ready to watch the new episode. I just recommended it to a friend and he loves it.
The most underrated characters in my opinion is Poot and Bubbles. The only 2 characters from the very beginning of season 1 who made it to the end of season 5 (street wise)

There's a podcast dedicated to the wire ☺☺
Me. First timer. Pretty good so far
Honestly, one of the best series ever created
The most underrated show of all time.
fs87 Yeah man, it never got the respect and praise it deserved. People rate The Sopranos and Oz over it which is bullshit. It can go toe to toe with all those shows.
It's not a TV show dude. That is why it can't be mentioned in the same bracket with other "entertainment" shows. It was shot naturally, portraying real life of a city as it goes on everyday. It's the great novel of our period.
The Sopranos and The Wire are the 2 greatest shows ever, ranked in no particular order. 1a. and 1b. IMO.
Snehartho Dey I get what you're saying but it's a TV show dude lol
Yeah, the greatest thing ever put on TV.
When you see it play out in its entirety, you can truly appreciate the genius that is created in that Big Picture kind of way
My favorite : Slim Charles . He was a Gang Star !!!
dave g “That was for Joe, yo.”
The only one who got the drop on Marlo.
Slim Charles was a real G.
@@liquidgeorge
" but now n*g*a "
BOOM
Thee Clay Davis, Downtown Clay Davis
Bodie's death made me whimper like a school yard sissy
Louis Alcantar so unfair
He was badass until the end
William Kukis - until he started talking to McNulty? He seemed to be crumbling.
bodie was so fucking underrated
Brooks May Bodie is Bae
I felt the same way about Season 2 also but it gave incredible insight on how the dope got into Baltimore to begin with and who the people were at the docks helping to do it. The Wire left no stone unturned and it's the only show that Has over 10 main characters who's faces and screen names you know right of the top. Bunk will always be Bunk no matter what he does .. Omar, McNautly, Bunny, Marlo, whoever
The Wire is like your first love that ruined relationships for you after being dumped. I quit TV .why bother it will never compare
Yeah there are tons of great shows. But none of them are The Wire.
Homeland is damn good.
Banshee is the second greatest show of all time so you should watch that
@@billymattson5336 uhh ya I just tried watching Banshee it it has literally, ( and I literally use the word literally in its literal definition) had every cheesy clichéed American TV trope I mentioned within the first 5 minutes... literally. ....I made through 15 minutes and switched to another Danish political thriller to cleanse my pallet. ( I think I'll stick to European stuff .They make TV that's not so adolescent and write for the functionality literate.) ....Man ,I wish they made more wire .
yo try the Sopranos. Not quite on the level but its close
doing a pandemic rewatch - still such an incredible show
Pandemic!
@@novadhd 😂😂😂
Honestly, I really appreciated the second season because it showed how it is from all different communities. I mean I'm black and grew up in the hood but the show itself is fire.
Simply the best show I've ever seen. This will be more important as time goes on. Never been equalled imo
Sherrod dying is one of the best and most heartbreaking deaths in television
Not really. He was a minor character only to play a part in bubbles character growth. He died offscreen and if it wasn't for bubbles mentioning him nobody on that show or even the community was going to be impacted by his death. If it was Dukie then you got something here
Exactly. He was barely a character. Bubbles’ reaction to it was heartbreaking.
Great social commentary that STILL resonates even today 12 years after the show's finale! Great writing, directing as well as some of the BEST actors. Didn't want to see it end but as with all good things.......
Old Man: What the fuck you go & do the that for? Now we short the 9!
Slim Charles: That was for Joe.
Old Man: This sentimental MF just cost us money!
truestdude LMAO one of MANY great lines and scenes in the series
What I do?
Long live The Wire! I watch it every year like it's a new series
I'm watching it After 6 years ( " and four months " ) !
I saw it maybe 15 Times AT l'East (but 5 or 6 being concentrate)
The Wire was simply the best of the best. I mean, there were and are a lot of good shows. Greats ones. But The Wire was the best. The story lines and acting was second to none. And when you go back and watch it again you realize what a brilliant guy David Simon is. Little Man, Omar, Cheese, Cutty, Snoop, MIchael, Rawls, Bunny, Randy, Kima, Prop Joe, The Greek, etc. Names that are forever in my head.
Where Wallace at
Carlo Geeno i was going to say that
I bought the whole show on DVD and I will have it forever.
“There are no good guys and bad guys. There are people. Complicated, complex, dynamic people. And it would behoove us all to take the time to look and listen to them.”
Wow, Carver’s a lot wiser than I remember him on the show
I mean... Marlo is definitely a bad guy lol
Without a single doubt the greatest TV show ever written
“Social document “ ....that’s most brilliant way to describe it.
Omaar! They were even scared of him when he went to the store for cereal. Heh.
No more honey cereal?
Toulouse41000 honey nut* 😂
Holy fuck that scene where he stops to just smoke a cigarette and they mistakenly drop a package out the window because they think they're about to get robbed cracks me up. Omar didn't even know they had a stash there, is out in his jammy-jams, and wasn't even armed 😂😂
...in his ROBE.
My friend had the wire on and i just watched with him and i got absolutely hooked. I used all my free time watching. Then omar died and i mourned him and then i googled michael k williams and i mourned some more. 😭
Sopranos, breaking bad, and the wire. The best ever.
Mad Men as well.
You got it! 👍
I replaced Breaking Bad with Oz
breaking bad sucked
@@thewkovacs316 if you're slow of course it would
I was introduced to the Wire here in the UK in 2012.
If Top boy was ending, I think they should cast Snoop as Jaqs mother, period point blank!
Have you seen the leftovers ??
"Its not the best tv show ever!...... Its the best thing to ever been shot on camera & put on ANY screen."
A-Fucking-Men
As someone who just got done binge-watching this again for probably the thousandth time, I really can't disagree with you. Such a brilliant brilliant show.
To say Breaking Bad much less the Sopranos doesn't come close is absolutely absurd, and very fan-boyish.
It is now 2023 and I am watching The Wire for the first time. Rn I’m on S4E8 and this is easily one of if not the best tv shows I have seen
I always get emotional when I watch anything about The Wire. So many remarkable and extraordinary moments.
Omar was the best character, followed very closely by Bubbles, then McNulty.
Who? Ohhhhhhhh, you mean McNutty.
The fuck did I do
@Bruno Jimmy yoooo Bunk my dude with cigare
@@toughshit330 made me laugh
hahahahahaha
Gotta keep the devil way down hole🎶🎵
"...when Wallace got blown away...Creed!" LMAO
I'm 66 years old and The Wire is one of the best shows in the history of TV.
omg I miss you guys EVERY SINGLE DAY after I finished watching The Wire
Me too! Then I watch it again
"money aint got owners, they got spenders".... the best line in the show imo
I want those Michael K. Williams pants.
RIP Michael.K. Williams. A wonderful actor.
Best piece of work I've ever seen on TV. So underrated, it's a shame!
The Wire underrated? It's literally in every list of 'best tv series ever'.
You may want to look up underrated
I remember hearing about 'The Wire' when it was on the air, but for some reason never watched it. Over the past couple of weeks, I watched every episode of every season...and finally finished last night. WOW! I was so sad & I hesitated watching the final episode knowing that it was the end of the series. Well done, Mr. Simon. Well done, to all of the actors & characters. Well done, to the writers. Well done, to Baltimore. SUPERB SERIES!!
at 5:03. D'angelo Barksdale. Yes, yes and yes. I miss him like I knew him for real.
One of the Best T.V. series that had major viewership. The writing was brilliant & still resonants with people til this day ... Binge watched this just recently.
Deirdre Lovejoy is such a delight in this segment, "Creed!" 😂😂
The show definitely wouldn't have been the same if Seth Gilliam played Stringer Bell.
RIP Michael K 🥲 legendary
Ffs, now i'm going to have to watch it all again for the fourth time!
Only the the 4th?!?
these are rookie numbers
Stringer Bell has to be the best character name since the artful dodger
It was mostly realistic, but some of it was theater and over the top.
Littlefinger schemed to get the show cancelled
6:40 I took 3 college classes that had to do with the wire. never watched it before college and watched the whole thing for course credit. amazing.
I have re watched this show 6 times! Greatest show ever put on TV!
Damn, the actress that played Rhonda Pearlman hasn't aged since The Wire.
Yea shes always looked 60
Just finished the series yesterday (again) and I’ve noticed things I’ve didn’t notice before. I watch this show like 3 times now and it feels so damn fresh! And this story is still relevant.
I just finished watching Season 2 yesterday and let me tell you, Frank Sobatka was the muthafuckin man!! I usually skipped over the 2nd season because I thought it'd drag or be boring, but the 2nd season was AMAZING.
so you would watch Season 1, then skip Season 2, and continue watching the rest? that's ridiculous man
Not gonna lie, i did the same shit. Once i actually gave season 2 a chance. Its pretty good. Still ranked number 5 out of all the seasons tho.
@@midofmidlife but every season is essential to the overall story and idea David Simon wanted to portray, you read the book that has 5 chapters, but you skip the second chapter for some reason, it is disrespectful to the show lol, as it is arguably the best ever
Ziggy. It broke my heart what happened to him.
Ty for this 😊 I need to watch my Wire box set again now 👍🏻😁
Omar Michael and Bodie were the best characters
God I liked Omar, Stringer Bell, and D'Angelo.
God Yes! They’re my favorites too. All had heartbreaking endings though
I like Daniel Omar and Avon the most
Avon most underrated he was a stand up character with a code of morals too
Omar , Bubbles, Mcnaulty and Stringer
I JUST put my VP on to this.....dude had never seen it and I am totally obsessed with this show... he told me that this is the greatest drama in the history of television......i completely agree.. R.I.P Reg E. Cathy
I didn’t watch the show when it came out ( because I was a little kid, and when the show ended it was in the 8th-9th grade ) but I’m watching it now and it’s so damn good!.. wow I wasn’t expecting this show to be like this I’m in season 5 now.
I just finished watching the show.
I wish i could forget it all and watch it again.
Best show ever
Seeing Rawls in that gay bar has to be the most shocking thing I've seen in TV including anything from Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad.
You can feel the love when everyone who worked on it looks back on it with such fondness 🥰
Stringer getting killed is probably the only time a show has shocked me to the core I remember sitting there saying no way over and over
The final nail in Stringer’s coffin was when he admitted to Avon he was responsible for D’Angelo getting killed, after that Avon didn’t care about Stringer.
The fact Michael K Williams got his start this way is awesome.
Recently started re-watching The Wire. Think I binge watched it back in 2010 or 2011, Am halfway thru season 2, and D'angelo just got snuffed in prison.
"Where's Wallace String ?!!? Where's Wallace !??! "
Every actor on this show did their characters perfectly. RIP Michael K
I hate John Doman so much, lol. SIGN OF A GREAT ACTOR!
Advait Thite see these mcnulty? These two are for you, one is in your eye and the other is up your narrow Irish ass
@@olycatastrophen7318 So tell me. Where don't you want to go?
I just started watching the wire about a week ago I'm on season 4. Excellent show.
you can’t just have 1 or 2 or even 3 favorite characters in the wire. there are too many phenomenal performances, characters, storylines, moments, just fuck. best show ever made hands down
I love this show!
Yeah, because they got off the streets.
Poppy Kneegrow that’s true but you were always able to see that Poot was selfish
That scene with Carver and Randy…tears. 🙏🏿🙏🏿
that hospital scene where Randy screams at Carver was a masterpiece
love the wire and this segment but the thumbnail is misleading
I want the masses to know how good this show is but at the same time I'm glad it's our exclusive group who loves it.
