Here in the UK we had a Sonic Adventure trial in Toys R Us, as we do with a lot of new consoles or games when they are out but this particular stand when you played had on the title screen TRIAL VERSION FOR E3 and had a few levels to choose with it saying how difficult the levels were... I was there for hours every day playing the shit out every level for weeks leading up to Christmas of 1999 when i got my DreamCast... I love Sonic Adventure so much
"The reason why we probably ended up with what we see today, involves a lot of reasons. One is that we did want to launch the title around Christmas, and we had the PS3 launch coming up, but we had to develop for Microsoft's 360 at the same time and the team had an awful lot of pressure on them. It was very hard for the team to try and see how we were going to come out with both versions together with just the one team. It was a big challenge." -Yojiro Ogawa (Sonic Team producer)
Lol I had this "game" where you could try different game demos. I think there was also Dead or Alive, Rayman, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1, and some space game. That's all I can remember.
Used to play this damn trial almost everyday I got a dreamcast for christmas and no games. I traded in my damn nintendo 64 to electronic boutique to buy Sonic Adventure and Power Stone I had the type of parents that would me get me the system and then never buy me any games, controllers or memory cards they had no idea.
this Demo CD came packaged iniitially with a dreamcast if you bought it in the stores. it also had Power Stone, and Ready 2 Rumble Boxing as a demo as well.
@levyanime actually you should already know about the prototype which shows a lot of differences made in that version to the trial version to the final version
@Antoniopinto91 @BlueDragon992 That is what happens when Sony & Microsoft rush Sega to release a game by Holiday 06. The game was supposed to be released mid 07. But were forced to released the game early unfinished. It's possible they could do the Adventure mechanics again and not be forced to rush. Sonic 06 was non canon, doesn't count as Sonic Adventure 3. SA3 will probably happen somethine in 2015 when it's his 25th Anniversary.
lol i remeber when i was younger and played the trial version of this on the dreamcast like a milion times with my uncle and when i got the real game i was a frkin pro at it!!! xp
Actually, '06 was gonna be awesome, but then us Sonic fans and the companies rushed it horrendously, and the outcome was an unfinished game. It had potential, but, hey, it was rushed. If it wasn't, we'd probably have a really good game
Gpro The biggest reason 06 ended up the way it did as well as being rushed as you say, but also 06 was going to be on the Wii as well as the other platforms, but when they realised the hardware was completely different, they opted to make Sonic and the Secret rings for it instead. This meant that in top of being rushed, the team working on 06 was split resulting in a smaller group of devs working on 06 on top of the other issues. Such a shame as your right 06 definitely had potential.
The "pressure" he speaks of is Micro-dumb forcing them to release the game before Christmas. The PS3 launch was, like, 2 months (somewhere in January) after Xbox.
Sonic 06 turned out the way it did for a bunch of reasons, the fans demanded a 15th anniversary game so Sega caved in and try to make it. One team was working on both versions of the game and Blue Ray was brand new so they had to learn how to make game with it. MS and Sony rushing them may or may not be true, I'd believe it if it was Sony the rushed them because they were a bunch of cocky assholes during the PS2 Era and the beginning of PS3. In the end 06's reputation is worse than it deserves
SonicRevolutionForum I thought it was when Yuji Naka left SEGA/Sonic Team to form his own Independent Delvopment Studio was the point when Sonic 06's Delvopment went downhill.
This is the rumor blaming Microsoft. "Microsoft threatened SEGA and Sonic Team to finish the game by the holidays of 2006 or they would exterminate all future Microsoft-SEGA contracts". I have yet to see proof or "source" of this claim and I strongly believe the game was rushed so SEGA could take advantage of the PS3's launch. Which again they unfortunately missed out on.
I think the whole SONY or Microsoft rushed SEGA is bullshit. COMPLETE bullshit. SEGA "themselves" rushed Sonic team to release the game for holiday because they had to take advantage of the holiday season and PS3's launch date. Unfortunately for them the PS3 version got delayed.
To jakeirako: Who knows, maybe SEGA and SONIC TEAM are just pulling out stupid things outta their minds, like tons and TONS of new characters... -_- *Whirr*
Sonic 06 didn't feel like Sonic Adventure at all. I personally hate Sonic 06, not only because everyone was so excited for it, but because it just generally sucked because the stupid fans rushed SEGA to an early release date.
It felt exactly like a slower Adventure (albeit crappier), and it was Microsoft that rushed the game for a christmas release. Fans had nothing to do with it. I own it for the PS3, and yeah, it's a bit too bashed on, but it's still bad.

My big bro went to the one at Bulls Bridge in '99 to play SA1. I was just born then.
2:16 "Trial Version" seems legit

I love this game. This is my frist game i ever played.I finish full game and i still playing.SEGA FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

>some space game
Space Channel 5. No need to thank me.
I have the same one. You're talking about MDK 2
This brings back sooooooooo many memories
Nostalgia 😁

I miss game sampler/demo discs. To bad they have become obsolete due to the wide availability of the internet.
next best thing, downloadable demos.
When I play the switch they still do them. They did it recently for princess peach showtime
This is my fav 3D Sonic game. SO many good memories
Ok but that "Dreamcast Samepler" menu looks so cool!!
this Demo CD came packaged iniitially with a dreamcast if you bought it in the stores. it also had Power Stone, and Ready 2 Rumble Boxing as a demo as well.
Because half the developers that worked on SA & SA2 left Sega after Dreamcast died.
No

#1 sonic game in my eyes
Even more than Sonic Adventure 2?
Jimmy Fantage by far. Adventure 2 is strictly inferior to Adventure 1.
Yeah, I can see why. I like Heroes the best, though.
Nah fam, it's Sonic 06 and BOOM, get it right. 😃
Holy shit that is a cool dreamcast intro...thingy.
in fact you can buy a personal copy for the dreamcast, only problem is, it's 80 bucks
TheClassicGamingBrony2013 or for 10 on steam + mods without having to tamper with your console choose your pick
@Realacide nowadays, sonic feels stiff and heavy.
@Antoniopinto91
@BlueDragon992

@Thedeadskin1 they like it cause they played it as kids alot so they praise it
In store now! LOL Engrish!
I can't see the fault in that?
Sonic begins his golden years in 3D until his death at the end of 2009
lol i remeber when i was younger and played the trial version of this on the dreamcast like a milion times with my uncle and when i got the real game i was a frkin pro at it!!! xp
No, just Microsoft. Sonic 06 came out in 07 for PS3.
@Realacide what if the person to do that is going into college and had a full complete series in mind for the Dreamcast fans right now?
Taking out the rusty camera, of course.
@JDaMac815 did you know that the vo for big the cat is voice by john saint john duke nukum him self

you should see the earliest beta for sonic R
You can beat one of the storys in one sitting.

Dude this video does not have to do with '06..
I wouldn't put it past this damn fanbase to have been ragging on 06 in this comments section.
Also Blu Ray has nothing to do with making the game it's just a way to store it
SonicRevolutionForum I thought it was when Yuji Naka left SEGA/Sonic Team to form his own Independent Delvopment Studio was the point when Sonic 06's Delvopment went downhill.
Nah it was just rushed out. Needed two years more of development.
Holy crap, I think I still have this demo disc...
Derf are you going to get Marvel vs Capcom 2?
doesnt the mouth movement make you want to hurl?
Oh i miss the old sonic Days! :'(
@Realacide they tried that with sonic 06 and failed horribly...
so good
Damn i don't remember Sonic Adventure being this loud
It's a trail version for dreamcast
Probably he is not emulating the sound chip thing that regulates the sound
4:24 did Sonic just ledge grab? is this in the full game? this would've made the game less clunky in some ways
it was just diagonal collision
AND with chao garden
i have this game still and my dreamcast :D
10:15 that was... something
OMG i got that game and played it out
this makes me wish i was never born in 1997. damn.
They did. It's called Sonic 2006. Don't look it up. It's not worthy for your eyes.
holy shit I have this exact trial
or ears (what Akon did to Dreams Come True's Sweet Dream, was a crime against Sonic fans everywhere)

Too many characters can kill a series. What I hate is that Sega just forgot about Big the cat. He was cool with his laid back attitude.
I think the whole SONY or Microsoft rushed SEGA is bullshit. COMPLETE bullshit.

its a demo
Their last attempt at that was Sonic 06' -_-
i have generator volume 2
@MrSuzukahime Really?
Why cant SEGA make a game like this on next gen systems re-create the feel of sonic adventure with next gen power.
legal
extreme Nostalgia =D I hate this generation of gaming now...
Sonic 06 didn't feel like Sonic Adventure at all. I personally hate Sonic 06, not only because everyone was so excited for it, but because it just generally sucked because the stupid fans rushed SEGA to an early release date.
i got tomb raiders also
i own this irl!!
they should make a sonicc adventure 3 with the new charecters in it like werehog, the wisps, blaze, etc.
guitaraddict03 Nobody needs Sonic Adventure 3
PressStartButton

8:03 WTF
LOL. Please re-read your comment.
lolsonic06
This is hella old
That doesn't feel like a REAL Sonic Adventure game.
They did, its called Sonic 06 and it was horrible.
