Sounds great, the closest sound to the brown sound of any Friedman amp.
In my view most Friedman amps sound way too boomy and modern to be considered a representation of plexi and the brown sound but this is the sound in Eddie Van Halen's head.
I own a BE100dlx now and I think it’s even closer…
19:20 is absolutely magical. GREAT demo of this amp. Would like to have heard it dry, given a really good quality reverb and/or Delay can make a huge difference....but, you've got me convinced that this is probably the best buy in the Friedman line if you're on a budget. This, or the Friedman DS mini has a really nice brown sound, as well if you tweak it properly. Would love to see you do a demo on that amp, as well. You've got a really good thing going with these demo's. Was a pleasure to watch.

I’ve owned the BE100, Wildwood Small Box, two regular Small Boxes, two Pink Tacos and the Runt 50. The Runt 50 was the best and most usable for me personally. It’s became my #1 amp. I still have a Small Box that as use for a slave power amp for my stereo rig. Sounds amazing.

Amazing, I just bought a Friedman Runt 50. Do you know what preamp tubes and output tubes are in yours? Also, what modern speakers sound close to your blackback speakers?
Thanks man!…i don’t know about the tubes I own a BE100dlx now…but I think it is EHX for preamp tubes and JJ for power…I think…closer thing to the Blackbacks are greenbacks…V30 and 75watts are pretty different

Excellent demo. Thanks for sharing. I own an original BE100, a latest version BE100, an SS100 and sold an early Marshall "Kitchen Sink" mod (stupid mistake) some years back. After nearly 50 years of playing guitar I've never been happier than I am when I'm playing one of my Friedman's. Now I hear this demo of the far cheaper Runt and I'm floored! You're demo sounds so good it's making me wonder why I have all these EXPENSIVE Friedman's when that amp sound so damn good. I will definitely be checking one of these out in the near future. I may not give up my BE's or SS, but I could easily see a Runt joining my collection if I can make it sound this good. Thanks again for sharing this great demo.
Oh yes!…Friedman amps are simple the best!…all of them have some awesome mojo!…now I have a 100dlx and that thing can do pretty much everything!…cheers?
@@GonzaCordo Interesting you mentioned the BE100 Deluxe as that's the amp that has been highest on my radar recently. Your comment that it can do pretty much everything has me intrigued. Can it truly do great clean, vintage and extreme gain modern? Can you dial in an identical sound to the BE100? If that's the case, I may be grabbing one of those and letting one my BE100's go.
Súper cleans you can…and super high gain to…match the sound with the old BE shouldn’t be a problem…

@@paulcowart3174 if you dig the Dirty Shirley, check out the Twin Sister. It's everything the Shirley is, but times 2 (2 channels)! And it has an independent bright switch and 3 position gain switch for each channel. AND a global presence and deep knobs. It has taken the Shirley to a whole new level.
I blame this demo for my purchase of the Runt 50 combo just now. 👍🏻

@@GonzaCordo it sounds really good in combination with that amp and your hands. I'm getting older have been moving back to lighter gear over the past few years and back to Marshall style. I think I'm going to get a Runt 50 now. Sounds way better than my Marshall SC20 plus it has a nice clean channel.
Sure it does sound better!…and it sounds that good at any volume ( you need to adjust the knobs a little bit ) … beautiful FX loop and great clean channel…and if you want British cleans just drop the guitar volume and you are there!

Excellent video Gonzolo - Well done, nicely showing all the different tones and how the amp responds to different EQ and available tones in the amp.. Some cool guitars and excellent playing as well, very good job, 1 quick question is it ok playing at lower levels? like at home/TV volume - is it good for that? Thanks and keep up good work
Katiana Glavan hi there!!!....yes it responds great at low volumen...probably you need to adjusts a little bit your eq settings to get same fatness and cut but totally workable!!...cheers

No man....whatever what’s stock on these...
Mercury Magnetics is like the monster cables of transformers - good, but very overpriced.
Son, these are custom-made by Friedman. They don't have the fancy brembo brake red paint job but I guarantee you they are superior in every way.

This is rawer and hairier than the BE but in no way compromised. Almost prefer in many ways.

Could this clean channel serve for some classic Fender-ish 60s rock? Even surf type stuff? Definitely sounds chimey enough for this type of thing. Not too middy or thick.
I think it could!...according to Dave it’s in the vein of a Black face...maybe that would give you more reference of how it sounds...it’s super clean and scoop as fender are!...

Once again I'm back to your videos for advice 😂. I got a Pink Taco and love it but it really needs a presence control. I want a 2 channel now for clean / drive. I was thinking about Runt 50, Small Box or something like that. Any suggestions? I play from classic rock to EVH , 80s metal , Metallica etc. Cheers man!

Según entiendo, el boost del Friedman es parecido a ponerle un overdrive al frente al canal crunch (drive en 0 y todo el nivel). O sea, le agrega un poco de sustain y aprieta un poco los bajos. En el segundo video dices que para solear le agregas el Golden Pearl (con un seteo parecido, o sea casi sin gain). Lo que no entiendo es por qué ocupas el pedal y no el boost del amplificador para solear? O es que para solear pones el crunch con boost más el Golden Pearl? Saludos
le agregaba el GP sobre el boost interno....en rigor es como lo que dices...un poco mas de sustain...

Well man, your plexi is the holy grail. Compared to that amp (and your brilliant modifications to it), this Friedman is a bit of a pretender, I am sad to say.
They are in deed different...there’s nothing like a crancked Plexi but they are truly beasts!...Friedman amps can get a 95% of that sound but at any volume!...
My clean channel isn't very clean lol. Its like a jcm8pp 2205 in the fact that it starts getting gritty almost instantly
And you have a Runt 50??....Runt 20 has a dirtier clean channel but the 50 it's super clean

I think the only reason it's cheaper is because it's made in China.
It’s not made in China…it’s made in USA but it is not a handwired amp…it has a PCB construction…top quality components and the same QC than de more expensive ones
@@GonzaCordo I have an early one that I was told was made in China. I had to send it in to be repaired there was a bad solder joint on one of the tube sockets. While it was there I had him (Dave F) mod the boost into a second channel with a bit less gain than the regular be channel. Great sounding amp.
Made in USA…and yes!!…Dave is so good at this!!!
@@GonzaCordo mine says assembled in California on the back. Dave told me the amp was manufactured in China. I'm assuming he meant the main PC board. And the transformers. That doesn't make it a bad amp. I know there was a bad batch that came out of China and a lot of them have the same problem mine had. It's still a great amp. One thing I noticed though is it only weighs about half as much as my BE100 deluxe. The BE weighs 49 lb. The runt only weighs 34.
That’s the thing a lot of parts are made in China so they can’t say “made in USA” cause they only can do that if everything it’s made in USA…so…but that the case for everything really…a Mercedes Benz must have at least 75% of part made in China!!..
