All the tones with my destroyer, and my Strat are through my old Marshall cabinet with a 57 and a little bit of condenser mic. When I use my Suhr signature guitar- that's the Amp into the suhr reactive load IR, using a Celestion impulse response.
It’s one thing to be an amazing guitarist, but to have creativity is another thing. The talent you’ve(Pete) got should make me jealous, but im too busy enjoying your music! Btw- long hair suits you!
I‘d love to take one in a music shop to the test for 2 hours. Then, I guess, I‘d want to buy the one I just tested, only to realize that 3300€ is a bit of a huge setback in my monetary situation 🤐
@@PeteThorn Dude, forget the gear... if I had a billion dollar, I'd buy you a band and give you cart blanche record deal... you DESERVE to be revered amongst the greats (EVH, Lukater, Vai, Satriani, Bucket Head, SRV, etc. etc.) Keep posting please and let's hope I can make my first billion soon!
Amazing! And very similar to Suhr's SL 67/68 MKII. It would be incredible to heat the tonal differences between these two beasts - (Like this so Pete can make that happen)
Pete your original tunes on all your videos are just high level amazing, such creative dimensional rock music. I love opening up your vids to get another Pete Thorn composition! Thanks as always.
@@dylanjastle Myself, my Friedman DS 40-watt has a really muddy low end. I've used a 1x12 Friedman creamback that's supposed to match up with that head, an Avatar 2x12 with 2 creambacks, with one Vintage 30 and one G12H, and an EVH 2x12 with Celestian G12H speakers (a cab that I find has a weak low end with the EVH 5150 6L6 head). I dropped the pickup lower on the low E side, and replaced the low E string for a thinner low E, from a 46 to a 42. Nothing worked. What I ended up doing was adding a Naga Viper treble boost (got the idea from Pete Thorne's vid about treble boosters, actually), and the amp absolutely screams without going into metal territory and no muddy low end, but more Gary Moore Live at Dublin face-melting saturation, which is what I was going for. I have a Friedman Little Sister that has a more manageable low end, so with the DS40 thru 2x12 the bass knob is set between 8:00-9:00, the LS20 thru 1x12 creamback, the bass knob is set between noon-1:00.
It doesn't make much sense to compare your experience of an amp to a recorded mix of a different amp. So much depends on the recording setup and the mix.
@@megamania501The Dirty Shirley is based on a JTM 45, which tends to have a looser, fatter low end than a Super Lead. That fat low end makes it sound rich and sweet at lower gain settings, and it makes single notes sing beautifully at higher gain settings. It is not really the ideal amp for tight, chuggy heavy rhythm sounds, although you can probably get it there with the right pedals or mods.
You and Micheal's demos are the best hands down for this amp. Same amp, different tones, by far, yet both top tier awesome sounding. Well done. Dave;s lucky to have guys like you demo his kit!
Thank you Pete. That gave me chills!! Awesome playing. I just purchased a 50W recently, still getting to know it. I'm getting a great snapshot of what it can do by watching. You're an inspiration to keep playing harder!
pete........you are inspirational. Beautiful playing. This amp..... Is eveything ive ever wanted. Pete, Dave....you give me solace . i am not alone. This is the dream amp for all of us older guys that have chased it. Hats off
Haha, I really want an effects loop and I always say it in that voice! But seriously, thanks for patiently explaining in multiple forums why an effects loop doesn’t make much sense in an amp that relies on power tube distortion. The amp sounds ridiculously good btw. It’s too much power for me but if I ever decide to get a “big boy” Plexi anyway, this would be the one.
I wish Dave would do that for the JTM too, so it can be used at bedroom volumes. I have a Marshall JTM-1, and even that one-watt amp gets too loud with an efficient speaker (blue), so I use a green. Killa demo as usual, thank man - I don't like overdrive/distortion usually, but YOU make it ROCK!!
He's like a little Young'un with a new toy. It's 110 watts Class A. It's got 7 NOS Preamp tubes and 3 old school Svetlana 6550 Poweramp tubes. Class A Amps have a lot more Harmonics compared to your standard Class AB Amps. Killer video, Killer Amp. Pete is one of the best Guitarists on the Planet Hands Down Badass!! God Bless Y'all. Jimmy in NC....
Great walkthrough here. Yeah man, cowboy chords to test amps. Really shows if the gain can handle complexity and remain clear. Shows the full range also. Then run some licks.
For me it's magical and so freaking inspiring to see you play with a setup like this. A very good plexi style amp and (in this case) your Ibanez explorer and just rock out like a mad man! Your playing with this kind of a setup is so good and you can see your at home with this kind of gear. Love it man!
I got the comparisons down to a T and understand them now I think I will still stick with the more vintage oriented SL 68 but I do appreciate you truly are a killer guitarist man thanks really for great. Great playing and killer killer demos I questioned you about your demos not too long ago, but I can truly say you’re a master of your craft and I am more impressed than ever with your playing the last few videos truly glad to be listening to your channel and you have given me some great opening ideas and few riff ideas for my own gigs and music as well. Some great influence which opened up tone pallets for me that I did not truly realize were available with the SURHSL67 and the Friedman JEL 20 truly thanks for everything demo. Thanks again.
The amp sounds great! The master volume sounds great, but I would have liked to hear a level matched comparison with it up and down just to hear how accurate it is. I've been looking forward to seeing what the vintage line includes. Can't wait for the AC30 model.
And why hasn't anyone else mentioned the elephant in the room??? The Awesome looking PT HSS with a FR!! Wow, that was beautiful! Any future release considerations with your signature guitar coming out with a FR? BTW, Great Demo as always Pete..
@PeteThorn I love listening to you play. You always seem to channel an enthusiasm that is infectious. I am considering buying a Plex based on your video. It has that 60's sound that has eluded me up till now. I have a Marshall 1987x and I've never been completely happy with it even though it sounds great. The Plex has more balls on the bottom end when especially cranked. I'm going to use a Dr Z watt attenuator and a Marshall 4x12 cab. One, I was wondering on recommendation for the head and two, whether the attenuator is sufficent. Thanks for your input. Thanks.
What cab/speakers/mics please?

I honestly just watch these videos to hear Pete play. Surely he's a contestant for the most entertaining guitarist, not to mention talented.
That beginning jam was so rad! Take a bow Pete!
You can just tell Pete had a lot of fun making that demo song. Sounds great of course.
The thing I love about the plexi amp is the tone and the blend I can get . I put a master volume in mine I think Dave just checked off all the boxes .
Off the charts amazing playing, beautiful tone!
Pete Thorn is one of the most amazing and underrated guitar player of all time!
Hey thanks!
Badass. Knows the equipment incredibly well too.
Is he the best there is at the moment? I think so.
Agreed …. Dude brings the sauce and is very good at explaining the gear. .
The most consistent riffs and phrasing on the web. That includes the biggest players. Nice sounding amp also 👍
Pete your original tunes on all your videos are just high level amazing, such creative dimensional rock music. I love opening up your vids to get another Pete Thorn composition!

Thanks so much!
This episode should just be called “Pete in the zone.” Just nerding out over an amp and sound that he really loves, and just having fun.
Thank you for addressing the loop thing!
Pete....
That Amp......
Dave Friedman....
Congratulations.....
Pete This Amp is You...
This is Pure a Culmination of all in One......
Love how you always show every sound from clean to funky to dirty in your demos! And the playing as always is impeccable.
This sounds great wow. Something makes this sound better than other amps. He has played
Play it like a wild man I love it.
Superb playing, superb musicality, superb amp! 🍻
but yet no one will ever hear it again, unless they come watch this video.
Damn, that opener rocked! 🤜🤛
Finally a Friedman that doesn't have way too much low end to be immediately useful in a recorded or live mix. Very nice.
What Friedman’s have you played? All that I have tried out have been pretty easy to dial in and very versatile

What? Friedman amps are known for their super tight low end.
Whoa! Pete just levelled up the demo tracks! Something special for Dave...who now owes you a cold one or three.
You and Micheal's demos are the best hands down for this amp. Same amp, different tones, by far, yet both top tier awesome sounding. Well done. Dave;s lucky to have guys like you demo his kit!
This is the first amp GAS I've had in over 7 years.
Way to go Dave!
Your playing is always so incredible Pete! The gear is always the second coolest thing in the video 😁🤘🎸
That opening shot... beautiful. And yes, that amp rocks big time.
That's a gorgeous Plexi tone. I love it!
Glen Morris makes his UK 67 work with a loop. He’s a master and doesn’t get the recognition he deserves.
Morris amps are amazing!
I want to play like Pete when I grow up. Holy Shit! I love the little harmonic sounds you threw in there. Killer playing man!
Finally released! I've been reserving a spot for this in my rig
Can't wait for the Friedman Plex vs Suhr SL67 videos
Is it just me or is this the best tone Pete has had? (hes had many great tones)

That opening jam!! Killer playing and tone!
Holy crap - this may be your best demo song ever, Pete. And that’s saying something!
Sounds fantastic! Then again, Pete always sounds great… and there you go showing off the Ibby again 😊
Great sounding amp! Killer playing as usual Pete! Hope you're doing well.

The first time he plays Let’s Get It Up sounded absolutely perfect to me. Great tone!
Tried it at the NAMM show~ Was blown away!
Sounds awesome ! Saw this at the Namm show and it was very impressive to hear in person…
What glorious noise. I will loop the intro and just listen to that.
Sounds like the best Friedman I've heard.
Pete always plays guitar with such attitude, love it
Pete just kicks total ass! So under rated. He seems to be good at everything
20:50 sounds like the Rush Beneath, Between & Behind tone - nails that vibe too
just learned the demo tune. really really fun to play! pete, you're a legend
That intro whoaaa, never disappoints! I love the fact that you can see the signal light flicker from the low voltage setting on the variac haha
Thanks for the detailed review Pete! Actually sounds a tad better than other Plexi's I've heard.
Still here for the hair but that playing! Jesus! 🎸🤘🏻
Very glad you showed the booster in line! What an amp!
Awesome playing, as usual. I'm ready for Pete Thorn III to drop with a supporting tour!🙌

the small black Chevy of amplifier fires 🤠

Wow, what an explosive demo and instant classic Marshall tone!
Thanks!
The opening track is amazing!!!🔥
Excellent as always!!! Thanks Pete! This may be the holy grail of amplification. Seriously.
Awesome review Pete,,you always seem to keep your chops so sharp,,incredible tone💪🤟

Great swing in that opening piece!

what a riff! learning this whole jam is my mission for the near future :)
Voltage switch works great. Both modes sound really nice. I like the Van Halen influenced chords, largely ignored by his copiers. Great job.
So how would this compare this against the SUHR SL68 and SL67 MKII?
I'm gonna ask you hard questions how does this Friedman amp compare to the suhr sl67 mkii?
That intro is incredible...the amp too!
Thanks!
I know that it is a video about the amp but, that tune in the beginning is so fricking good! Wow!
The best opening jam as usual Pete. Thank you brother for rocking our ears off!😊
Like I've said before, Pete, I know nothing of amps but your tutorials are always a blast.
Yep- Dave does it again. 🤘🏻
Nice presentation, Pete- as always!
