Fun fact: Romania is 20th as the safest country in the world ... and I think it has one of the lowest guns per capita in the world ... Also ... the best Internet/TV/Mobile service in the world for price/quality ... 25Euros for 1Gb, satellite TV, unlimited mobile (national, international, internet)
Thank you for your interest in Romania and for getting the right facts about the country. I always say that people should first come and get to know us and then speak bad about Romania and its people.
I am romanian, and I like this guy a lot ! Come here, we '' ll vote you Mayor ! :) Ty for this video and for your nice words ! God bless Romania and USA !
It's interesting what you said about being loud in public transport, because as a Romanian that lived in Bucharest for about 10 years and then London for a couple I always thought that Romanians are usually a lot louder in public places than people in the Northern part of Europe, kind of similar to Spanish or Italian people. Maybe it's because you went at a weird hour or because you were speaking to each others in English, which people are not really used to here, that's why they were staring. It's more of a curiosity kind of stare I think.
British people are quite a bit more restrained than Americans. Some Brits admire it, and call us boisterous, some abhor the behavior and consider it loud, garish, and rude, lol. The guy that made this video is from the U.S. I think, and was comparing Romanian culture to American. Thanks for offering a comparison between Romanian an British! It's always neat to see other perspectives! I'd love to spend time in every region so I can see all of theses for myself, but there ten lifetimes wouldn't be long enough to really see every culture, so I have to rely on people you and this guy to help me see them all.
Family is number one , yes ! I'm a 23 year old Romanian and I want my parents here now in Denmark . I can only go home one a year and I feel that I left my family behind hehe 😁. Thanks for the great video
"Romania has a very low level of viollence" Don t forget that people, before you call us criminals. Every country has their bad citizens. In our country, most of the bad people are not Romanian. In Romania many people are very poor indeed, some people homeless, with 0 income but yet, here nobody ever died for starvation.
+Stojan Daniel There is a lot of domestic violence, though. Many women are treated like 2nd-rate citizens and children more like slaves (to their parents), instead of people, with their own aspirations and characters. Also, there are a lot of "pungași". They don't value other people's money, as they do their own. I'm not gonna even start about the number of times that I was nearly run over by a car. So "criminal" is subject to interpretation.. +7h3rm05 How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? Luke 6:42
It is really interesting to learn how other people see your culture and country. Also loved the video about food. :D Now I have to make sarmale, because I am pregnant. XD
Agree on the safety part, been in so many countries, this place is a lot safer than most places. And if you compare it to the US, then yeah, tons safer.
People stare because they're curious. If you live in Bucharest and go to your job in the other part of the city you'll switch trains or wait a long time in the "metrou", then U can become very "serious" or bored. Usually people mind their own business so when others are active of course it catches their eye. :)
The fact that people are staring is mostly because you are foreign (we are usually a merry crowd) and those who usually look down are snobish old people
well i gues romanians do care about their families but the reason they still live together even after they grow up isn't really because they care about their families so much but most people here can't afford to buy another house or appartement, so it is cheaper to live with your parents than live in rent..anyway dude you are great :)
+Plankton n there is no reason to buy a new home if you dont need to, spliting the bils withs the family has some pluses, yes i get the intimicy factor but still
Romanian who live in other countries are still like that :) i live in austria but i have relatives in more countries of europe and usa and australia and we really do stick together. And my grandparents live with their children (my uncle and aunt)...romanians are just like that :)
Romanian people stay close to their parents mostly because of lack of money or if they need help (when a child appears in the family), they don't necessarily want to stay together. Generally, young people are supported financially by their parents throughout college because it's hard to study and have a job at the same time; also, for newly weds it's sometimes hard to support themselves and a new house and also a child, so they accept the help of their parents. That's not necessarily ok, mostly because of the gap between generations, but the new generations that come try to change that and be more independent :)
***** Hello: 1) You have understood very well that the Romanians put a high value on family, it is not about lack of money. Even romanian wealthy families live together (with mother, father, grandmother and grandfather); Wealthy romanian families build a big house and they live together in that house or if they do not live together, they visit each other very often; 2) We, romanians, even have an expression relating to family "Sangele apa nu se face" ("blood never turns into water"), this means that family is very important. This concept you can find at all the latin nations ( Romanians, Italians, Portuguese, Spanish and so on); 3) Of course parents help financially their children, but this is the way of thinking in the Latin world/countries. Even when two young people are getting married, the family is very involved financially in this process (of course depending on the financial possibilities); 4) Prepare to Serve! you understood the concept of family in Romania much better than "Alexandra Vaduva" :))))))))))
It's interesting to hear what people who actually came here think about Romania. I love my country and I even made a video with a few little know facts about it. You can view it here if you wanna know more: th-cam.com/video/GlMbZ8lhcNY/w-d-xo.html
Sorry on behalf of the romanians that spooked you and your fellow missionaries on the tramway with their staring :).I presume they were adults/elders and , as you said it yourself , communism is only 25 years away to us.Back then, foreign movies/travelling out of country weren't even allowed so you can imagine the surprise on the average adult romanian face when he sees someone speaking in a language other than his own!
public transportation is like in japan, be quiet try not to bother the others, the elders are usually tired from work and keep this ''rule'' ,the youngsters are the opposite
Serban Stanescu Romania, surpriza. All around me I see people retiring in their 50's. I don't know if I'd trust a 87 year old to teach children. No offense to your grandpa, don't take it personally.

Hey, I'm from Romania :) This thing with keeep it down in public transportation has something to do with the comunist regim, witch now it's over, but most of the elderly people still belive that the comunist regim is still alive. In the comunist reim there was a thing like lets just say an agency, a political police called securitate (security) and as a citizen you have to be verry carefull about what you say, with who you talking, because you may end up verry bad, like very bad, beaten to death, prison for a very long time or slave worker. Thats why when you are quite louder in public and someone is looking at you, they just can't belive if you have a death wish or something like dat. But that times has gone, its now fine to be yourself in public, but be prepeared to face some akwoard look's mostly from elderly people, who lived most of their lives in the comunist regim. Sorry for my english, i know i'm not to good at that.
It has nothing to do with communism. It is just considered rude. Lots of european culture have the same thing. have you ever traveled with metro in London ?
i'm not orthodox, but i agree, the orthodox church has more power than i should. some time ago, there was a car battery commercial on tv, with a guy that calls a priest to bless his car, etc. at the end, there's a question- ''you still believe in miracles?'' it didn't take long for it to be removed from television, i wouldn't be surprised if the church had anything to do with that. we still have a lot of catching up with the rest of Europe, but things aren't so bad. you seem very wise for a young fella. i'm glad you like it here. take care, man =)
Very touching ur words my friend...but the reality is many locals are awake bcz they found out how different westerners defamed their country, how many other romanians were treated unfriendly abroad. I'm sure that many locals have changed and showing the same attitude like many westerners in treating other foreigners. Things are getting changed my friend nobody like to be treated like a stupid dump...
Can anyone tell me something about Romania, its nature and climax, its universities and schools and educational institutions and progranmmes and order with mentioning some famous professors, banks and important associations with mentioning some economists, songs and music with mentioning some famous singers and if possible composer and songwriters and arrangers, archectutures espicially Hammams and ancient markets, ethnicity and languages, religion and mosques and synagogues and churches with mentioning some famous muslim sheikhs and christians clergies and Jewish rabbies, its folk clothes and common food and popular names, tv series and cinema movies and theater plays and broadcast series with mentioning some famous actors and screen writers and directors and producers , sport clubs and different teams of various sports in terms of gotten medals espicially in football...tell me about these aspects and other aspects of life in Romania, these are informations that I could get from internet but I want to hear from you... if I asked these questions before, then we have an Arab Iraqi proverb says ( it is good thing to incerase and expand good things) ... I am waiting for your reply and answers and questions and comments and response

Serban Stanescu Elders don't work. They're retired.
In what ideal country is that? My grandfather worked as a teacher until he was 87
