    Good job, very well done! I'm Romanian, and I want to congratulate you on your very well documented facts. I can tell that you're very good with languages, and love the way you pronounce Romanian words. Don't know if you had a teacher explaining things to you, or you just "caught" it by ear as they say, but very well done! One mention- Romanians used Cyrillic alphabet for a few hundred of years because it was forced on them...but the base of the language was and always will be Latin. It was a way of surviving and continuing our Latin heritage in a sea of Slavic people...Romania is isolated from all the other Romance-speaking nations geographically, but maybe that's the main reason why we preserved that very proper Latin grammar.

    There are three types of Latin vocabulary in Romanian. 1. The first is directly inherited from Vulgar Latin, which is the core of language. 2. The second are the words which came from Scientific Latin, for example, "ignis" in classical Latin means "fire", but in Vulgar fire is "focus", in Romanian fire is "foc", but in Romanian there is a word as IGNIFUG, which came scientific Latin. 3. The third is of course borrowing from another romance languages, most of them come from French, no wonder, Romania is a Francophone country, where many people as foreign language speak French, but now English popular as well

    romanian has some hundreds words that are the same in sanskrit, and many words considered to be slavonic, are in fact much older than the slavonic influence came to this part of europe. it is from thracian language ( an indoeuropean satem language, indoiranian branch) the mother of dacian language.

  • @anastasiareed360
    @anastasiareed360 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Actually, grammar wise, French is by FAR the hardest one, since it mostly derives from ancient French. Back in the days where only the most educated people knew how to write, and they made the grammar as complicated as possible to make it seem harder. In romanian you basically write it as you hear it

    • @nonnodacciaio704
      @nonnodacciaio704 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      grammar is not that

    • @anastasiareed360
      @anastasiareed360 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Nonno d' acciaio French grammar is not that hard? French born people still struggle with french at a college level.. I would know because I just graduated from a french college.

    • @nonnodacciaio704
      @nonnodacciaio704 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Adrian Negreanu no I mean grammar is not only the "you write as you hear" part. Grammar is more than that. I think I may have not expressed myself properly

    • @anastasiareed360
      @anastasiareed360 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nonno d' acciaio Yes of course it's not that simple, but I myself am romanian (born in canada) and without ever having a romanian education i'm able to write in romanian, of course making quite some mistakes, but anyone would still be able to comprehend what i wrote, which is not always the case with French, seeing a non french person writting french is often really painful, which is mostly because of the thousands of grammar rules that have no logic behind them in french

  • @JoeMaza

    Cases deal with nouns. Moods, aspect, tenses with verbs

    • @ranker4
      @ranker4 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Vannesa M Spanish? More like italy, since they gangbanged us hundreds of years ago, and from there we got our country's name, if Rome wouldn't invaded us, then we would still name Dacia, and citicenzs would be named dacians or something like that.
      Dunno who told, dunno if it's real, but someone told there are some proofs our language is somehow related to latin language.

    Hi I am from Romania. Romania is my country. And I learned English and French at school and I find it hard. I think the Romanian seems hard because you're not born here but me I'm easy. I should be glad if you try some Romanian dishes (SARMALE). Many people believe that the Romanian language is romantic but they think so because it is a Latin. I am very glad that you managed to say the word,, fundatie``. And to be honest I did not understand anything you say because you are a child and do not know English very well (but I took a ten English school). Now forget everything I wrote above me in Romanian:Buna sunt din romania. romania este tara mea. Si eu la scoala invat engleza si franceza si imi este cam greu. Cred ca romana ti se pare grea pentru ca nu esti nascut aici dar mi-e mi se usoara. Mas bucura daca ai incerca niste preparate romanesti ( SARMALE). Multi oameni cred ca limba romana este romantica dar li se pare asa pentru ca este o limba latina. Ma bucur foarte mult ca ai reusit sa spui cuvantul ,, fundatie``. Si sincera sa fiu n-am inteles nimic din ce-ai spus pentru ca sunt un copil si nu stiu foarte bine engleza ( dar am luat un zece la engleza la scoala).

    Congratulations to this guy!
    These are a few things maybe your viewers want to know - the most have been said, but I give them additional examples.
    Romanian language is almost 80% of Vulgar Latin language, (vulgar=spoken, popular), plus 20%:
    1. Slavic words (Serbian, Bulgarian: calorifer=warm-water heating, Russian: a iubi - ljublu=to love),
    2. Greek words (democrație from demos-people+kratos-power, medical terms, science names like: zoologie - zoo+logos-word/science, arheologie - archais-old+logos-word/science),
    3.Turkish words (cișmea=fountain, sarma=main dish, peșcheș=money tribute),
    4. Dacian words (varza=cabbage, barza=stork, brad=fir),
    5. German words,
    6. Hungarian words.
    Romanian language is the only Romance language that kept, from Latin, "Neutral gender" (genul neutru) : words that have the singular ending form of masculine and the plural ending form of feminine (for ex. un stilou/one pencil - doua stilouri/two pencils. Masc: un/one - doi/two, Fem.: o/one - doua/two, Neutral: un/one - doua/two.).
    All of the above words (1.2.3...6) are influences from our ancient neighbours: Austro-Hungarian Empire, Ottoman/Turkish Empire, Russian Empire and countries under their domination (Serbia, Bulgaria).
    Old Greek and old Slavic languages are still learnt in Theological High Schools and Theological Faculty in Romania and Latin language (one of those 8 "dead" languages în Europe) is still studied in 7th/8th and 9th grade in school/high school. Our bible comes from Greece and it was written with cyrillic alphabet in ancient times. Romania is a "new" country (its borders finalized btw. 1856/1944) and its written language formed btw. 16th and 19th century.
    But many of the European countries are "new" formed states: Italy and Germany, both formed as states in 1871.

    Obviously you have been in a more formal, old fashion Romanian society. It seems that you have also learned some Romanian. To clarify some things: the younger generation does not use so many formal expressions. On the other hand, even before the 19th century, before the contact to the French and Italian languages, in language character was Latin to such an extent that the emperor of the Austrian Empire Philip the Second, traveling in his youth as an adolescent in Transylvania has been impressed by the fact that he could understand Romanian after studying Latin in school! He gave 4 names (like a greeting) to four Romanian villages in Transylvania: Salvae, Parva, Nepos and Romuli (which means I am greeting you little niece of Rome). The names are still used today.

    Interestingly, you noticed the similarities between French words used in English.
    Sometimes, when I don’t know an English word, I take a Romanian word and say it in an English way, and many times, it matches a word less used like I would have an elevated vocabulary; people ask how you know that word...lol, I don't; I just used a Romanian one with an English accent 😂

    I speak all romance languages that came after latin, i wouldn't say fully fluently but hey 11 languages too many to keep a track on. but still portuguese is out of the 6 is the hardest,
    The complex grammar
    The complex dialect/accent
    Closed language
    Reminds me of my russian or any slavic or baltic language because of having a strong powerfull accent compared to the rest of all romance languages execpt east romanian or moldavian who has russian or ukranian accent.
    Fast speaking.
    Romania language would fall right after portuguese.
    But if you know Italian Spanish or French specially French then you can speak Romanian execpt the accent being different but you would understand alot of Romanian
    The same does not happen in European Portuguese, while Brasilian Portuguese is like the second easiest one after Spanish.
    From hardest to easy i would place like this
    1 Portuguese/galician
    2 Romanian
    3 Italy because of different dialects from noth to soulth or Sardinian
    4 French
    5 Catalon
    6 Brasilian
    7 Castilhan
    This is my order of placing all this languages, but im not fluent with all of them just know enough how to talk or understand everything that is being told to me unless some weird accent comes in...

    • @SupremeLordEnki
      @SupremeLordEnki 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** No they are not the same language, Brasilian falls into the same cathegory as Angolan does
      There is formal Brasilian that tries to follow the European Portuguese way but that only happens in 3 or 4 known parts of brasil, move from there you get the common br and crioule mixed.
      To me they are different languages, not the same, give it 2 more centuries and see how different both languages will become,
      Same as when Leon was nearly the same as Galician Portuguese and now is castilhan, same is happening to Galician whos been influenced by Castilha.
      Brasilian is portuguese yes, same words or most of them but the dialect/accent is completly different, One is closed the other is spoken out loud like singing, and resemble the same as castilhan execpt being portuguese.
      Mas se quiseres pode-mos falar na tua língua, para mim é me igual.

    • @SupremeLordEnki
      @SupremeLordEnki 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      fonte de origem = portugal da europa.
      segunda categoria seria brasil e depois angola.
      `
      eu talvez me tenha explicado mal mas sim muitas zonas brs sao mais portuguesas em lingua portuguesa europeia do que portugues brasileiro
      como disse anteriormente pt pt ou pt br sao na mesma uma so lingua apenas a pt br muda um pouco o seu dialecto e a sua escrita no qual ate involve criolo ja o mesmo em angola acontece e portuguese sim official mas como o de portugal, obviamente que nao é dai eu chamar como segunda categoria ou sub divisao da original do tempo da colonisacao.
      nao quero parecer racista ou algo do genero amigo apenas tentanto explicar que nos europeus entendemos brasileiro melhor que o pt pt
      pergunta a um espanhol ou italiano ou franca ou romeno eles iram entender melhor o br que tem semelhanças no timbre ou no acento da voz como tem o espanhol ja o portugues em si e diferente comparado ou espanhol ou brasileiro ou italiano numa lingua latina romana portugues e romeno da romenia sao as unicas duas que tem um acento ou dialecto que nao se assemelha ao resto das linguas latinas.
      tem muita terra em portugal no qual a lingua parece escocesa....
      e sou russa mas mim eu divido as linguas por classes devido aos verbos e as vogais e nouns
      porque se formes a ver italia tem varios dialectos que mais parece uma data de linguas espalhada por toda a peninsula italica..sendo a principal a toscana no qual todos entendem e a principal para se falarem assim como castelhano o é na espanha.
      Eu como falo varias tenho de dividir em divisoes para poder entender e pensar nela em mim propria para a poder escrever sem ter que dar muitos erros mesmo nao tendo teclado para por tis e acentos da para entender perfeitamente penso eu claro xaxaxa

    • @SupremeLordEnki
      @SupremeLordEnki 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes i consider them secondary languages from my native one.
      musmanks nenetsia the repulicks all have their own dialect.
      ukrain belarus are different languages too, oblat is weird.
      bulgarian is like alien
      kazak
      kyrg
      taji
      so many accents and dialects that come from slavic baltic origin but all from old prusk.
      most are understanbadle but some nope it is a mix of native with russ and something else like turk..
      a simple word no can change from net het nee ne h4t
      just the word "no" let alone bigger words or phrasing a phrase.

Even better know that you are trying to learn my language, Portuguese (I'm from Brazil) besides Portuguese, I speak Spanish (accent in Urugayan), English (American), Esperanto. I know very few Russian, I'm a real language lover. I understood your point comparing Brazilian Portuguese and Angolan- some scholars call Portuguese-Portugal and Brazilian Portuguese, and maybe we can call Angolan Portuguese (I really would need to hear an Angolan speaking, but it sounds to me that they have more closer pronounce of Portugal than a proper pronounce, even why Angola was free from Portugal only in the last second part of last century. About Romanian it is quite an alien language among Romance languages, because the language had other influences, but it isn't that hard, of course I'm in the beginning of my studies. I hope soon as possible to come back to my Russian and Slavic studies. I wish you very good luck with Portuguese.

      Renato Figueiredo Yes Angolan is more close to portugal than it is brasilian portuguese.
      They just have an accent but the language remains execpt the criolo that exist within there
      For brasil languages alot has changes and continues to do, brasil is big 200m people coming up with new words everyday.

    Is Romania a country where I can ask for directions and advice in Spanish better than in English if I go there on holidays??
    Due to similarities I do this in countries like Brasil and Italy. Ahh, and in France!! (These guys prefer to speak Spanish than English and they might learn spanish at school because many of them were sooo good at...)

      Both languages are very similar to each other, but I suggest you to learn a few words in Romanian or talk in English, because nowadays, pretty much everyone learns and speaks English

    well, the old Dacia was conquered by romans in 106 I guess, this is when people from there started to learn latin and later- with the influences and stuff- we transformed that to Romanian. The French influence was much later, when we were already having a "latin" language. Still, it is very, very well, congratulations! You already know many things that many Romanian people don't know (which is sad for my country but good for you). Keep up the good work and good luck with everything!

    This was great.
    I think that, when you mentioned that Romanian is the closest Romance language to Latin, you had in mind the fact that. out of all the daughter languages of Latin, Romanian is the only one to have retained a case system.
    I, myself, am an Orthodox Christian, as are most Romanians, and I'm considering going to Romania, and spending time in an Orthodox monastery there.
    I'm also an American of Italian and Slavic descent (Polish and Ukrainian), so Romanian and its culture and language all resonate with me.
    I think it's interesting how the Vulgar Latin survived in Dacia to become the present Romanian language, and how, to this day, many Romanians look like Italians and Spaniards (in other words, that the descendants of the Roman colonists in Dacia survived, surrounded by Slavs and Hungarians.)
    Still another interesting thing is, how there are often pairs of words in Romanian, which mean the same thing, and one word is of Latin origin, and one is of Slavic origin--like "timp" and "vreme" for time.
    I learned to speak a fluent Spanish, and I do OK with Portuguese, Italian, and French. Also, I know some Russian, plus bits and pieces of other Slavic languages. So, my guess is that I would learn Romanian rapidly.
    What I would do is, concentrate on the regular morphological, phonological, and lexical contrasts between Romanian and her sister Latin tongues.
    Anyway, I admire the Mormons (you're one yourself, right?), and I feel badly that there is or was a satirical play about them on Broadway--as well as for the unjustified negative reputation that they get here in the US (which is to be understood, as Mormons stand for morality and being centered on God, which are things that our culture finds abhorrent.)
    PS Not to focus on superficial things, but the Romanian people themselves are a beautiful-looking people.

      There are things similar to Portuguese and others with the Spanish (note that Spanish is 80% or more like the Portuguese), and of course Italian ...

    You know something? English language has also 3 genders, it's only you don't use it often. The only thing is every word has a gender, even verbs, like participial verbs, passive verbs, Genitive, Dative, even names have gender when declined to dative. What's intereting is that Romanian language is more latin than Italian but more closer to Spanish. EX: Spanish hermosa; Romanian frumos, frumoasa; while italian has only bello which also means war not just beautiful so Italian is also in contradiction with ancient Roman Latin language on this term

      You're overreacting. A lot of people lack proper grammar lessons. That is because grammar is done very early in school and rare afterwards. As such, most of them forget them when in their high schools years. This is an error caused by the system which imposed a school program that basically makes students have a lack of grammar knowledge.
