@@byronoliver5470 sorry for the late reply. Just seeing this. So I watched Tony Northrups Part 107 long video first and then his shorter, more condensed, edited one. On any concepts that I wasn’t grasping I watched more detailed videos from Mr Miggs. He teaches this content to a high school class so he is amazing and explaining it. I also printed out the guide from the FAA (can’t think of the exact name of the document at this time but it’s around 88 pages if I remember right). That helped to make sure all the videos I was watching were covering all the material since some of them are a couple of years old and the test questions have been updated a little. So then I searched TH-cam for the most recent videos of what people had on their tests and that’s when I found a few new topics that weren’t in the Northrups videos such as remote ID. That is also how I found this video (just searching for the more recent part 107 videos). Also, FYI, there is conflicting info in some of the older videos about class E airspace- older videos make it sound like you can’t fly in it without clearance and now the FAA has cleared it up to say that unless it extends to the ground you don’t need clearance. While the map legend (I think that’s what it is called) in the sectional chart is super helpful in leading you to a lot of the answers, I studied it enough to know what was included there. If I hadn’t done that ahead of time, I wouldn’t have known all that was included there, so I highly recommend that. I hope this helps! Good luck!

I just took the exam and this video helped a lot but I will say there was a few questions that caught me totally off guard. I studied a lot for sectional charts, metar and TAF but they made up maybe half of the questions at most. There is a lot of questions on stuff like what does nimbus mean and what is this one specific category of part 107. Like some of it was just terms that you had to know. As with general standardized testing strategies, it helps to mark questions you are slightly unsure about, I found that a later question might give you the answer. I did pass the exam but I do highly recommend just knowing a lot of definitions and not just sectionals and metar/taf reports.
Just passed with a 92%. Watched your video and another on TH-cam as well. But I also completed the PilotInstitute course as well. These videos gave me confidence I knew most of what was needed. Thank you!
I went to like the video a second time... I already liked it halfway through, and then I went to try to like it after the end... this video needs more likes, wish I could help with that... thank you so much for the info! Can't wait to learn more!
At 22:26 - Cat 1 OPS - “Drone must weigh, not “way” - just thought you’d want to know. Thanks for taking the time to make this. I’ll be taking the test in a couple weeks.
Prior to your explanation of airspace, I checked to see if I can find a chart online so I could see what airspace I'm in. I didn't want to buy one, so I forgot it. Then at 37:37, you use the Class B sectional of the one airport in the USA that I was wondering about. What are the odds? I'm just outside of PKT's Delta. Hilarious. But I'm just barely within DTW's Bravo.
Excellent tutorial! Thank you Matt for the helpful video. You took alot of your time to assemble this information with slides and explanation. The video is in depth of the certification process and I very much appreciate what you've done... Thank you again for the time you took to put this together to help us Drone operators prepare for the Part 107 certification...Best Regards, Matt

Correction on MTR's: What you have pointed out on the map are Victor/RNAV Airways (commonly used by Civil and Commercial operators flying under IFR Rules with higher minimums). MTR's are the dark faded gray line noted by 'IR", such as IR31 on your map. But great job on the video!!!!!!!!
20:10 I'm really confused, you say that it can weigh 55lbs or less, which is option C, but you say that the correct answer is option A, which is less than 55lbs. So which is it?
Not all heroes wear capes this guy is him. Im gonna try to study this next 3 weeks and watch this video before my test. Love this information! Very helpful☝🏽
I have to be honest, I just clicked on this video and am thrilled with the comments. In January, I studied extremely hard and fell one question short of passing my 107 exam. I hope these comments are true and this video will make a difference! If anyone has any tips and tricks or ways to be less nervous... all is appreciated!!!
Scheduled my Part 107 test for 5 days from now. So far studied half a day (watched this video in detail and read through the FAA part 107 PDF). Took the free online sample test. Appears I've got to get in some more studying related to the sectional charts and also odd one off questions that I expect were answered in the FAA PDF, but didn't recall. Certainly seems very feasible to get a good basis understanding by simply utilizing this video and a few of the FAA docs. UPDATE: Passed my exam with a 70%... cut it close. Expected to do much better, but my test seemed sectional chart heavy. Some questions of those were easy, while others seemed tricky. Had several weather based questions not covered in this particular video (i.e. additional cloud types). Definitely needed to know some of the weather based symbols for the weather reports. Also had several general aviation based questions that I was not familiar with at all and not covered in this video or some of the other study videos I watched. Overall though, Matt's video is a great starting point, but based on my test, I'd certainly recommend studying in more depth using the "Remote Pilot ‒ Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Airman Certification Standards" found on the FAA website as your guide. I believe Matt mentions this in his video too.
Thank you so much Matt! I took the exam this week and passed! I watched this tutorial twice, and did some practice problems. God bless you! You saved me a lot of time !
Title 14, Chapter 1, Subchapter F, Part 107, Definitions … "Small unmanned aircraft means an unmanned aircraft weighing less than 55 pounds on takeoff, including everything that is on board or otherwise attached to the aircraft."
My Part 107 education started here. Listened to your video through once, the second time through i wrote everything down, the third time through watched it with the notes. This was the best start to my Part 107 education as it covered the majority of everything you need to know. In addition to your video i would strongly reccomend YT videos focused on Part 107 Q&As and at least one more type of Part 107 full review instructor video ( I agree with some of the other comments that people explain things differently (especially important for weather patterns)). Thanks Matt, passed w/ 87% first try!
WOW! Mr. Matt thank you for the easy and free Part 107 Study Guide! You have make this very simple for me to understand the basic of Part 107 Remote Pilot exam. Thanks! AMEN-ASE!
After about two months studying, I was still nervous on taking the test. I stumbled upon your video the night before the test and watched it. It pretty much filled all of the knowledge gaps I needed filled and covered stuff my training didn’t! I passed my test on my first try! Thank you very much!
Matt, I stumbled across this searching for a refresher Part 107 course before starting AUVSI TOP training. I really appreciate the excellent sound quality, and also your clear enunciation at perfect speed, explanations of acronyms, and in general teaching style. Super helpful1
Hey I just wanted to say thanks again for such a great video. I aced my exam this morning thanks to you. I watched your video all the way through probably 4 or 5 times. I also took the practice tests about two dozen times so as to review a wide variety of the different questions.
Can you please explain why it's Class D airspace for the question at 41:00? On the sectional chart it looks like the airport is surrounded by magenta and by blue. Thanks.
I think it's because "at the surface" it's class D. Those other airspace overlap the airport but at higher altitudes. This is why sectional charts are so confusing to me - you have to think in 3 or 4 dimensions (4 being time if you think about "where in time" the flight into our out of that airport is taking place")
Update: 93% - I encourage people to watch this video several times (I watched maybe 3-5 times at various playback speeds), looked for more material on tricky topics, asked AI for more help on certain subjects, took free online practice tests. When I was taking the exam - I definitely felt like I was on track to get a 65% but was pleasantly surprised with my 93%
Thank you so much for this video! Im on my journey to taking the test and I’ve watched so many different channels and this is by far the most up to date, and probably best explanatory video out there. You’ve done a great job. Thank you again.
Thank You so much. Today I pass 90% on 1st attempt. I watched this video 2 times and took notes separately. This video covers large variety of topics on the exam day. Thank you so much again for putting this course for Free. The only topic missing i how to read “Chart Supplemental U.S.” I also used an app called “Part 107 Test” for practice questions.
16:00 does this part also apply to land formations like cliffs? Like if I take off over the edge of a cliff that's over 400 ft up is that immediately illegal or can I stay within 400 ft horizontally from the cliff to stay in compliance?
Thank you! I watched this video a few times and it was super helpful. I just took the Part 107 and passed like so many others in the comments. I also read through another free study guide available online and took some of their sample questions. All really helpful stuff. So thankful for these kinds of resources online. If you're thinking of doing this certification but unsure of how long it will take you, do it. I put it off for a long time and just flew recreationally. But this will open up some new opportunities. It doesn't take that long to prep, you can use free resources to do it (8-10 hrs for me using freely available resources online, done in one evening and early morning prior to test lol) and it will be worth it.
Hi Matt, Wanted to say thank you for your Part 107 study guide. It was incredibly helpful and I'm happy to share that I passed the exam on August 8th. Truly appreciate you and others in the community for your help!
Very impressive video Mark. Clear, concise and detailed with great graphics. Easy to understand with a lot of the mystery taken out of the weather abbreviations which, at first, were overwhelming. Three stars.
Only studied for one day because I thought it was common sense so this video helped a lot watched it twice and took a free test online by kingschools did that maybe 3 or 4 times was getting around 70-75 % towards my last couple of tries. I was shocked to see they use the exact maps on the test 5 of the questions were exactly the same too which was great, this video covers so much and is a great base got a 83% on my first try for the official test with only one day of studying crazy. Thanks Matt
Question: In respect to flying over 400 AGL to inspect a tower, is there a specific distance I must be from the tower as I gain altitude? It appears I must be within 400 feet horizontally, but wanted to be clear about the closeness to the tower. Thanks
Excellent presentation of a lot of pertinent information for the exam. I haven't taken it yet, but feel smarter from watching this presentation from Matt. Thanks so much for all the information.
What’s funny is that here in texas (if I have the money) i can go out and buy an ultralight helicopter and start flying it right away without a license and for a simple drone there’s the need for a license to fly drones commercially
I want to open an IRL channel for myself. I know that I need to get certified if I want to use a drone camera for anything. Thank you for all this wonderful information. I’ve bookmarked this video for future use. excellent job.😊
Great video , home depot will except unserviceable batteries for recycling (If you are not getting any type of compensation for flying and will be flying under 400 feet do you need to have a license) ( or can you just register your drone with the FAA?) Plan to buy the Autel Robotics EVO II Dual V3 thermal Drone.
Ok... I think I got the first half. 2nd half I am shakey on. I will rewatch and take notes. Got some PDF files. Hopefully, I pass. I think the license will help me land better Security and Cinematography gigs.
Thanks Matt! Watched your video and a few others over the last week and passed my test yesterday with a 97%. Apparently I missed 2 questions related to restricted areas. I’m not exactly sure how I messed up, but everything else seemed pretty straightforward.
This is an awesome video, thank you! I do have a question if you see this… On the first study question if you need part 107 for .55 to 55 - how was it less than 55 lbs instead of 55 lbs or less? Doesn't make sense to me.
Just failed, got a 65. For the new test I would say more then 60% of the questions are about reading the map, no METAR questions. Final 5 questions were all about high and low altitude and optimal conditions for flight
Thank you very much Matt for all your help and support. It is possible for you to clarify if time bracket on third line of TAF on Figure 15 is correct? I think should has been BECMG 1302 instead of FM120200. As it's stated denotes time going backward. Thanks in advance.
( July 2024 ) just passed my test yesterday with a solid 70% my test was split 50% sectional charts 25% laws and rules 25% weather. This was my main study material. If I could’ve changed anything it would be studying more into sectional maps. Also I only took like a week to study. Good luck 🍀
so with the vfr and ifr you say 4 numbers is at or below 1500ft and 3 numbers is above or below that, so my question is regardless of which wouldnt you use caution because either one you see on a chart could have low altitude aircraft??
I've been trying to find a clear cut answer but can't. If you have a drone that is less that .55 pounds/250grams... does it need to be registered if you're going to fly it under a part 107 purpose? Also, I really just want to add some epic views to my channel, which is monetized, but the drone footage is not what monetizes the channel, nor is it the purpose of why people watch the channel. It's really just for cinematic b-roll and reveals of locations. 90-95% of the videos would be just me talking and pictures on screen so I'm not receiving compensation for the footage itself, I'm receiving compensation for the videos which would have drone footage in it. Does this still mean I need a part 107 license? i'm going to get it regardless for other purposes but for this one specifically I can't find a clear cut answer.
what about the fpv how does this work when it comes to with clouds? when it comes to 3sm and 500 and 2000 rule? i see a lot of PIC fly their planes and it seem like it would be hard to avoid clouds it not easy as it with quad drones....
It's also probably similar to the ASA exams to where they have five or six different exams that they cycle through. Thank you for this video by the way, I want a head and watched everybody's videos before I took my test just to refresh myself. My situation is that of agriculture and unfortunately I am a highly restricted airspace due to the fact that the airport's runway is within 1 mile. I'm trying to get set up to be able to spray so I've been doing all my research on black permitting to fly here. It's funny though as a side tangent, the FAR's never used to say FAR/AIM and ironically my aviation school was aviation institute of maintenance (AIM) where I got my first copy of far
Only half way through the video but thank you so much for making this video. This is worth money, I gotta buy your PowerPoint slideshow after to help study and show support!
Great video, very informative. I still don't understand why so much info for manned aircraft and such indept information on weather is necessary for the 107 drone license.

I watched this video several times 3 days before my test. This was 90% of my study material. I took the test today and passed!
Super helpful video! I watched this, Tony Northtrups video, dl'd "FAA PART 107 Practice Test" took all the free quizzes and exams on there , and took King Schools "Free FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot Test" multiple times...Passed with an 87% the other day. Thank you Matt!
Thanks!
Hilarious. But I'm just barely within DTW's Bravo.
dude i cant thank you enough-i didnt want to pay for a course so im so glad i found this
Excellent tutorial!
It’s the wording as it appears in the CFR - the CFR states …less than 55lbs. It’s in section 2 11-2-1 a 😅
Not all heroes wear capes this guy is him. Im gonna try to study this next 3 weeks and watch this video before my test. Love this information! Very helpful☝🏽
Passed 1st try, ur video was a valuable resource, thank you
I have to be honest, I just clicked on this video and am thrilled with the comments. In January, I studied extremely hard and fell one question short of passing my 107 exam. I hope these comments are true and this video will make a difference! If anyone has any tips and tricks or ways to be less nervous... all is appreciated!!!
just happened to me to sucked a lot lol! good luck on your next test!
Well, how did it go the second time around?
I've completed the 107 Couse from Pilot Institute,, decided to watch this ad well!!!
Thank you so much Matt! I took the exam this week and passed! I watched this tutorial twice, and did some practice problems. God bless you! You saved me a lot of time !
Question on weight: If the aircraft can weigh 0.55lbs to 55lbs, wouldn't the correct answer be "C", 55lbs or less?
I was wondering the same thing
good to know that i'm not the only one
Yeah that's what I was thinking too. The FAA site says "weighs no more than 55 pounds" and on another page it says "weighs less than 55 pounds"
🫨🫨🫨
Title 14, Chapter 1, Subchapter F, Part 107, Definitions … "Small unmanned aircraft means an unmanned aircraft weighing less than 55 pounds on takeoff, including everything that is on board or otherwise attached to the aircraft."
@brettstill4687 where did you get your book from?
Thanks! AMEN-ASE!
Just watched the whole vid beginning to end. Loved it. The cadence when someone speaks, especially training, is everything. You nailed it. Thank you.
I'm banking on this video and some practice tests getting me through my P107. Thanks Matt! I'll update next Friday.
The only topic missing i how to read “Chart Supplemental U.S.”
I also used an app called “Part 107 Test” for practice questions.
This is absolutely the instructions for Part 107. Thanks again!
16:00 does this part also apply to land formations like cliffs? Like if I take off over the edge of a cliff that's over 400 ft up is that immediately illegal or can I stay within 400 ft horizontally from the cliff to stay in compliance?
Great video! I especially love the diagrams that show the runways and airplane approaches, haven’t seen that quality before!
Thank you for your videos! They helped me pass my part 107 UAG test with a 90% and no prep courses.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, especially all the time that goes into chapterizing and organizing everything. Nice job!
Past my test today with your help. 87%, thank you very much.
Very helpful, thank you!
Hi Matt, Wanted to say thank you for your Part 107 study guide. It was incredibly helpful and I'm happy to share that I passed the exam on August 8th. Truly appreciate you and others in the community for your help!
Thanks!
I am watching your video and truly appreciate your help. You are awesome. I am preparing for the part 107.
Passed with a 73% today! I recommend this and other resources
Thank you for making this! I take my exam on Friday; I'm going to do a few practice test but I feel prepared thanks to you. 🔥🔥🔥
Passed it at 80% thank you sir
Thank you! Your video is extremely helpful and well done! Question: Could you let me know if you listed the link to the radio that you mentioned?
Thanks! You can find the radio link on my kit page on the description 😊
Very impressive video Mark. Clear, concise and detailed with great graphics. Easy to understand with a lot of the mystery taken out of the weather abbreviations which, at first, were overwhelming. Three stars.
I literally couldn't do this without you, thank you so much for all of your help!
Edit: 48%
Thanks
Excellent breakdown! This video has given me the confidence that I can learn and do this!!
Very impressed. I have read Part 107 material from FAA and was having problems understanding the material. Your video made everything clear. Thanks.
Quite a few public libraries and fire stations can take batteries for recycling.
Excellent presentation of a lot of pertinent information for the exam. I haven't taken it yet, but feel smarter from watching this presentation from Matt. Thanks so much for all the information.
When are you taking yours?
Within the next week or so. Re watched the video multiple times. Pick up something new every time. So helpful. Thank you.
@@tortorellamike lmk how it goes. I’m still studying
This is awesome, dude! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this!
Thanks for the video 😊, Interstate battery also will accept them ( that’s in Aiken South Carolina though !
Great video! I believe best buy accepts electronic and battery recyclables
Ok... I think I got the first half. 2nd half I am shakey on. I will rewatch and take notes. Got some PDF files. Hopefully, I pass. I think the license will help me land better Security and Cinematography gigs.
Just want to make clear that you are amazing… Excellent video and very clear! Incredible work. Thank you so much for this!
Because it must not be 55 lbs, it must be less than 55 lbs (54.999999 or less)
I wondered the same
Matt this was so helpful, I'm scheduled for my exam in a week. I'll be rewatching this video several more times. Thanks for the hard work.
Just failed, got a 65. For the new test I would say more then 60% of the questions are about reading the map, no METAR questions. Final 5 questions were all about high and low altitude and optimal conditions for flight
You are a great teacher! Great job and thank you. 😊
This video is great! Watched as a refresher the morning of my test and passed.
Thanks Matt, your video helped me pass my pt 107 😀👍
Thank you very much Matt for all your help and support.
It is possible for you to clarify if time bracket on third line of TAF on Figure 15 is correct? I think should has been BECMG 1302 instead of FM120200. As it's stated denotes time going backward. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for this video. It fills in a lot of holes in many online courses, a trip through the book.
Watching this a few times I’m wondering if I should still purchase an online course.?
Appreciate it man!
Best teaching so far , loved it
What information source would you use to know about TFR's?
Only half way through the video but thank you so much for making this video. This is worth money, I gotta buy your PowerPoint slideshow after to help study and show support!
Passed w a 77. Week of rewatching this video and another on charts.
which charts video did you watch still having a little trouble reading them myself
Did u use any other study material
@@Budgetingeverypenny nope. Just this vid pretty much
Quality is crazy on this video, great video
Beautiful video instant subscribe!!
Thank you Matt- This is so thorough and helpful. I love that I could have your slides too!
Isn’t the very first question “C”? Because answer “A” means it can only be 54.9 or less. Your slide at 4:40 literally says 55lbs or less?
Great video, very informative. I still don't understand why so much info for manned aircraft and such indept information on weather is necessary for the 107 drone license.
