Why do I only now see these AMAZING SUSHI OMAKASE tourist friendly places?!?!?! I would love to have tried this place while I was in Japan late Oct 2023🤨☹️
Been to Sushi Umi back in 2017, right after the new owner took over due to the passing of old owner. Had a great experience then. Might go again next year if we visit Japan.
Hi Jenny! Wonderful videos. I made a reservation on their website and did not have to enter any credit card information. I noticed you wrote that you paid upfront when booking. Did you book through Tableall?
Just looked into a reservation, lunch is now 37500 yen / 245usd and Dinner is 48000 yen / 321 usd. 63% increase since this video came out. Thank you for ‘ruining’ our expectation that we’d pay 150 for a two Michelin star omekase 🤣. Just kidding really, more power to that chef if he can command that price; we’ll probably still check sushi umi out. 😎
? what are you smoking ? I just made a reservation for January 27th in 2024 for lunch and it was 24,800 yen or $168USD ... the dinner reservation was listed at 34,800 japanese yen which is $236 USD ... you need some better reading glasses or something.

@@jennyfoodtravels Interesting! I thought that for the price difference it would be a simpler course at lunch, but from your video it looks like it is the complete experience. Did you happen to ask them if it is indeed the same meal on lunch and dinner omakase? And by the way I love the content you've been posting!
If you booked through Tableall, the bill should already be paid for when you secured the reservation. Only additional items such drinks and a la carte add ons will need to be paid at the restaurant
You can make reservations through their website or on Tableall. Both of the links are listed in the description. It's also shown at the end of the video on how to make a reservation. Hopefully this helps!
We will have *just 1* night in January in Tokyo and landed on this video! I looked up online their pricing and dinner now costs $335. Would you recommend Sushi Umi at this price point or was there a more memorable dining experience? Thank you!

Thanks for this awesome video. I am trying to make reservation and noticed that between the English reservation page (using tableall), and the Japanese reservation page, the lunch is a whopping $100 (USD) more on the tableall page for the same date. Anyone else see this?
Tableall charges a fee for their service, so it's best to use the japanese reservation page. Use Tableall if there is a specific date you really want but not available on the jp website. Hope this helps!
I would have a typically Czech question: is this an "all-you-can-eat" experience? I mean, this looks to be on the level where you no longer receive a menu and are expected to be happy with your choice, but instead they will serve you and fulfill your wishes until you are satisfied. Is that the case, or are the some limitations? Knowing my own people, they would come in and wouldn't leave until really stuffed, so I'm curious how would such an appetite be looked upon in this kind of restaurants.
Omakase in Japanese means leaving everything up to chef. The chef will make a course that changes everyday, depending on what’s good in the market. For those restaurant that offer lunch, it’s lighter mostly just with sushi. For dinner, many people have a bottle of wine or sake, and the menu has several small appetizers called tsumami on the top of what you’ll have on lunch sushi. Because dinner is often more expensive, it might have better cuts of same fish for sushi, but otherwise, the main difference is tsumami. It’s not all you can eat, rather they will create a set course, but you can ask for additional piece as you wish at extra cost. Hope this helps!
Do you know why they lost their stars? Will be visiting Tokyo soon and landed on this video. Would you still pick it over other fine dining experiences? We only have time for 1 restaurant

i don't know how this place has a 2 star Michelin. Food is just okay for me. Not the best fish I've had. Some of the fish were flavorless. Also the price we had for 2 person without any drinks is over $600 USD so they may had increased the price from 1 year ago. It was the worst experience I had at an omakase venue. Chef was sick and did not wear a mask. He was coughing in the food while preparing to make the uni. Also scratched his armpit and proceed to make the sushi. Also, my husband and I had diarrhea twice after having his food. One the night of and immediately the morning after. I have never had any diarrhea from any high end omakase venue except for this place.
@@francmassaneda I paid 19,800 for lunch, but now it's priced at 24,800, which is approximately a 25% increase. Also, the number of tourists in Japan is consistently growing compared to the time when tourists were not allowed in until around November 2022. So, it wouldn't be surprising if establishments are raising their prices in response to the increased demand
