It’s funny, a few weeks into watching your channel my Festool ct midi 2014 changed the sound I was used to. I thought it could be the brushes, slowly took it all apart and removed the brushes to check. They looked worn but thought they would be alright to use until I got new ones. Bloody thing wouldn’t switch on once I put it all back together. Ordered new brushes but they took 3 weeks to come from Germany. Fitted them and it started straight away. Sound the same as it should too. Watching your videos made me feel like it wasn’t an overly complicated job. 👍🏻😊 thank you. Saved me a fortune sending it to Festool as well I bet you have a great time doing a stock take all all the little parts. 😂
Most Festool brushes have a pin in them which comes out when there is not enough carbon flesh left on the brushes, this is to prevent the armature from getting damaged by the brush getting worn down all the way to the spring. In your case could have been the brush being stuck in the holder by dirt and stopping it from making contact with the armature. Good job though fixing it, those Festool vac cleaners have a great motor that can last a long time and you saved some money for sure!
Yet another fairly common issue with HR4000, HR5000, HM series. Common as in once in 10 to 15 years :) Since 2004 I had only one with 3 of my Makita SDS Max hammer drills. Great job!
I have one laying here too. Unfortunately the armature has worn out and is now sparking. Is it worth replacing the armature? Or am I better of buying a new one since the old one had done many work and probably needs a full service too
How can I go about getting a consultation from you Dean? Do you offer your services for those inquiring about how to repair something you don’t have a video for? Do you have a cost for that? I fell into a gig as a tool repair man and I’m very new to it. So much I don’t know and the internet does not have all the answers.
This Makita series are best tools ever produced. HR4000 outlives HR4001 and HR4003 easily. Better gearing, better clutch.. only bad side is the fan that blows in your face.
Pretty sure he uses almost exclusively Bosch grease in different viscosities in *any* tool, so should be readily available on the Isle. Rewind the video and grab the Bosch part number, fairly sure I saw it.
Hey! First off, I love your videos and thank you for helping save so many tools from landfill and teaching us how to too. 2nd off, Ive got a question that you might be able to help with. So I'm repairing/repaired a Makita cordless 18v angle grinder (BGA452) It needed new brushs and brush assembly, all the new parts fit in perfectly, altho the new brush holder assembly didn't come with a ferrite core around the wires where as the old one did. I still have the old ferrite core, but I'd have to cut the wires and recrimp them to put it on. I was just wondering if it actually needs the ferrite cord around the wires. Thanks :)
Another great video could I ask what the name of the torch you have is I've been after something like that for a while being a mechanic it would help out alot lol P.s don't forget to order more of those seals
Have you run into tools where there's difficulty finding parts? I have a Black & Decker professional (pre-DeWalt rebranding) 4252 125mm angle grinder that needs a new gear case as the spindle lock casting has broken internally and no longer locks. The part #448149-00 no longer seems to exist even on the second hand market leaving me stumped.
All good. But I hate how Dean slam the machines and the parts...on the table. Out of .... range If I do this ...working to my customers...for sure, they will never ever ask for my help. Sorry. No offense...but this is not ok.
This is your reminder to order that oil seal
I did forget

22 years young.. And God knows how many hours run.. They certainly don't make um like that anymore. Thanks for the vid Dean..
What a great, instructive and uplifting repair Channel.
No messing about.

Great job!
Great to see how you try to keep the older machines working. They are built a lot better than the newer ones. Great job! Keep the great videos coming.
Kinda glad you post videos at night, had something to watch after waking up from a nightmare and anxious to try and go back to sleep at 4am
Yeah these videos have a calming effect 😄

very nice quick fix! that's a good machine, many concrete pads to still destroy out there 😅
What brand of bearing puller is that? I don't see it on Amazon. Looks very easy to use.
Hi Dean , I have Bosch SDS plus corded. It works fine on walls ,but when aim it down to ground hummer does not work. What do you think is it?
You know you got good tools, when you dont see them on Dean videos.
Unless it's a brand he won't do/is winding down doing like Hilti and most Milwaukee.
I have one laying here too. Unfortunately the armature has worn out and is now sparking. Is it worth replacing the armature? Or am I better of buying a new one since the old one had done many work and probably needs a full service too
For over 20 yrs. old that tool is still in good condition. Knowing hands and eyes brought it back to life.Nice work!
How often do customers offer for you to keep tools after you tell them the problem and that they’re not fixable? Or fixable for an excessive amount?
Nice one! Where did you get that torch on your key chain?
Olight mini2.
Comes in so handy.

Interesting repair, great job. Can Bosch grease be bought in Ireland?

No it will work fine without. It's not worth the hassle of fitting

It's a Olight mini magnetic lamp.

I blame marketing for bad quality tools now companies have gotten more greedy all they care about is the money not the product
An awesome repair, incredible machine, fantastic reprai tech. "Its only 22 years old". 😂

No repair of (ROUTER) = Makita drywall cutter? Ex: The 18 V LXT cordless cutting tool (DCO180)
Lot of Makita Stains on that benchtop.
that Bosch grease looks like some cheap mayonnaise, reclcylable tube too...
Should have been serviced years ago.
💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
