Very nice ammonites! I’m envious. Britain is wonderful for ammonite collecting. I’m a geologist whose worker in many parts of the world but for many years in Alaska where I massed a very large collection of Jurassic and upper Cretaceous ammonites. Also some spectacular heteromorphs. Keep up the good work!

I think they are fascinating. Evolution is amazing and listening to you talk about them is so relaxing. The tiny ones are awesome. More please.

great show Emma. I agree you need to get a couple of nylon brushes. One stiff and one a bit softer. Old tooth brushes work in a pinch.

Thanks for your video. I found an ammonite but when I dropped it it broke. I'm now trying to find out if it's worth anything. I'm excited to go hiking to see if I can find more!

Some very nice ammonites. The other one looks more like a scallop than an oyster to me.

Totally agree with you Bobobobina. That shell is a scallop rather than an oyster.

Hi Emma, great fossils! I'm not sure the last small one is an Harpoceras, though...

    i used vinegar
    white and apple vinegar
and it works pretty well over the
    dirty and rocky adds
    over the fossil

If you could can you show the difference between the ammonites because they all look the same to me.

Great fossils. Have you ever tried soaking them in vinigar, or lemon juice? That would remove some of the limestone.

    • @GabePorro

If you use white vinegar works different
Use Apple vinegar that's too strong
      I recommend you hydrogen peroxide
That is way Less aggressive in order to clean the fossils

You are luck to be able to find ammonites and similar fossils, there are not many near me :( I have to travel 6 hours plus to be able to collect and we only have trilobites and things like that

You might be able to pick up some dental tools that will help you get the inner swirls clean at a boot sale or charity shop. Relay like these cleaning videos.

Lovely ammonites, any chance of sharing the location of your finds? Ahhh just saw the video where you remarked that you dont say where you hunt, totally understand. I normally hunt pyritised ammonites at Charmoth, I'm a sucker for a bling ammo 😁

    • @EmGems
      @EmGems  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah a few of the locations I hunt at aren't open to the public, so the land owners have asked that I don't promote them ❤️ but I also love Charmouth! Can't wait to get back there to hunt 😍 need to find some more pyritized specimens 🙌
